Summer Program Registration Begins Tuesday, April 19 for ACC Residents

On the Cover: Endless Summer with ACC Leisure Services ACC Leisure Services offers a variety of activities and events to make you wish for an Endless Summer. Begin your Endless Summer by registering for summer camp. ACC Leisure Services offers 33 camps and mini camps. There is something for every interest. Themes include art, fairy tales, mystery, theatre, zoo and even a camp devoted to the all 50 states! Continue your summer by staying cool in one of the Department’s five outdoor pools. Learn to swim programs are available, as well as special themed programs including Mermaid Days, Pirate Days and Shark Week. Just as the dog days of summer hit, it is time to relax with a month full of activities celebrating “July is National Parks and Recreation Month.” Enjoy fun activities, including: Christmas in July at the Lay Park pool, Family Fishing at Sandy Creek Nature Center, Popsicles and Playgrounds, and Splashdown 2011 at Bishop Park and many others. Summer Camps and Mini Camps 2011 ART CAMP: MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD We will explore art and music as we travel to Australia, Africa, Brazil, the United States and more. Learn about tambourines, drums, rain sticks, didgeridoos, etc., as we create a band of art inspired instruments! TENNIS CAMP: STAR JUNIOR CAMP (SHINING STARS AND FUTURE STARS) Each player is introduced to and develops basic tennis strokes (SKILLS). The players will execute these strokes in a variety of DRILLS and apply them in various games (THRILLS). 10&U juniors will use transitional balls (much easier to hit and therefore much more success) on a smaller 60ft court. 11 and older juniors will use regular tennis balls on a full size court. This camp will teach basic theatre etiquette and terminology, vocal and/or choreography along with basic acting skills to produce a one act play at the end of camp. Sports All Ages JUNIOR ATHENS RECREATIONAL TENNIS LEAGUE The Junior Athens Recreational Tennis League (jrARTL) is an opportunity for boys and girls to play matches and meet new tennis friends in the local Athens area. It is a flexible format open to juniors who would like to play fun, competitive tennis matches with the recreational spirit. There are 5 divisions: Red (Co-Ed Beginners – 9, 10 &11years); White (Co-Ed Advanced Beginners -10, 11 & 12 years); Blue (Co-Ed Intermediate - 11-15 yrs); Purple (Girls High School); Green (Boys High School). The goal of this course is to continue to work on stroke mechanics, combine different strokes to develop a point and to prepare you for USTA league tennis. Scholarships

Any Athens-Clarke County resident under the age of 18 may apply for a scholarship. The Bishop Park Tennis Program offers a limited number of scholarships. Scholarships do not cover entrance, admission, rental fees, or adult programs.
