Small is beautiful and so is Pub Lisboeta. Locals flock to this tiny bar in Príncipe Real to have a drink and to socialise. It’s a great place for an aperitif. They serve a menu of imaginative bite-sized snacks and homemade pizzas.

Casa Independente is one of those places that are proof of Lisbon’s diversity. The bar is located on the first floor of an extravagant building on the Intendente square, formerly a no-go zone because of the illegal activities that went on around there.

Bicaense is a Lisbon icon and has brought a taste of nightlife to the very traditional and authentic Bica neighbourhood, where the funicular runs along a steep slope lined with locals’ homes, small shops and restaurants. Famous for its easy-going atmosphere and its cultural programming (live music, DJs, movie screenings), this is a true gem in the city.

109 SANTOS Santos ➂

Santos is a vibrant nightlife quarter, especially popular with local youngsters, who meet up in the bars and cafes of this area before going out to party in the nearby discos of Avenida 24 de Julho, Docas, or Cais do Sodré. On weekend nights the sidewalks are full of people having fun.

Topo is the brainchild of a group of local entrepreneur friends who decided to renovate the abandoned top floor of a decaying shopping centre on the up-and-coming square of Martim Moniz. They created a venue where hip locals gather for a drink and a bite, while enjoying the amazing view of the old city and the castle. A sister venue has opened in Chiado.
