The flutter of feathers as the model walked on the runway was really exciting, so I wanted to draw it right away. As the dress is all black, I decided to illustrate it by working systematically through each of the materials. For the fur on the upper part, I went from pale to dark and then I used a white line pen to draw the detail. For the sheer areas, which reveal the wearer’s skin beneath, I used a gray marker to work through the outer layer of the fabric and then added the embroider y details. The most difficult part was the feathering, as I had to trim each feather perfectly to achieve the desired effect. This illustration was reposted on the brand’s Instagram page.

Worn by my favorite supermodel, Bella Hadid, this sample opened the Alberta Ferretti Spring 2017 Ready-to-Wear collection. I was honored and flattered when I received a request from the brand asking me to sketch this piece, and immediately set to work. In creating this illustration, I had to first show the leather fabric on the model’s chest and the intricacy of the embroidery. I then developed the satiny layering of the skirt in many shades of purple with a white pencil to illustrate the sheen.

Inspired by the chiffon dress worn by Gigi Hadid that attracted huge attention at the Alberta Ferretti Fall 2017 Ready-to-Wear at the Milan Fashion Week, I immediately began this illustration. With printed gondolier stripes, embroidered velvet, and a hooded cape, it was a piece that took viewers on a tour of Venice. In order to illustrate it, I had to use tone transfer layers to ensure the outer layer of the dress appeared to be the most soft and smooth. I mixed the color quite closely with the marker color and used the light blue layer for the entire background of the dress. The next layer was created in bold brown, dark green, and the gray to compose the printed colors of the fabric background. I finally blended the white with white line pen to accentuate the color layer of the printed array.

This illustration was inspired by Blake Lively at the Met Gala in 2018, the theme for which was: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. In this outfit, the Gossip Girl actress shone splendidly in deep red with iridescent motifs shimmering on the Versace haute couture gown. Noone could take their eyes off her, with her bright smile and exquisite dress, so I had to draw her. First, I created the bodice of the dress with many layers of gems, seemingly floating on the surface. Next, I drew the elaborate train and skirt panel using dark red and shadow layers to give the drawing volume. I completed the illustration with a white line pen and a golden pen to define the embroidered patterns on the red fabric background.

VO CONG KHANH Elle Fashion Show 2017
j This illustration was inspired by a dress by designer Vo Cong Khanh revealed at the end of the Elle Fashion Show 2017. I’m a longterm fan of his due to his quirky and interesting designs. As the model walked onstage, I was particularly drawn to this glittering and gorgeous gown. For this drawing, I wanted to create the impression of a princess. I first completed her skin and makeup, then the crown and long blonde hair. Then I proceeded to the top of the dress to illustrate the silver band and the banner with word “Congratulations.” Finally, for the translucent aquamarine fabric, I used a white pen and added shadow colors to make the material more striking.

This illustration was inspired by a gown from the Fall 2016 Haute Couture collection of Vo Cong Khanh. This design, uniquely creative as befitting his reputation, was inspired by the Goddess of the Sun and includes a golden chicken motif, which both surprised and impressed me. To create this illustration, I used many black tones and dark gray. I also mixed light tones with bold tones to make the fabric more prominent and the aesthetic more poetic for the drawing. I then drew the pattern on the dress with a golden line pen to illustrate the detail and the embroidery motif. Finally, I used a black line pen and added a shadow layer to outline textured motifs, as well as a white line pen for the sparkling effect.
