Baby Care Wear From the moment a baby is born, their temperature dangerously fluctuates when unclothed, even in warmer climates. Bennison, a maker of high-end children’s sleepwear, donates and delivers pajamas to impoverished countries around the world. Those impoverished areas lack access to anything but communal bar soap to clean the donated pajamas, which actually spreads germs rather than eliminates them. That’s why the design agency created the Baby Care Wear package. Each pajama is wrapped in a package made entirely of water-soluble, non-toxic, biodegradable soap paper. Parents can simply tear off a square and drop it in a pail of water. Even the ink can be washed away since it’s the same kind that hospitals use for baby footprints.

RE–Jar Lamp
Everything about this project has been created to have the least amount of environmental impact as possible without cutting into the creative and functional result of this product and its packaging. Creating a funny yet stylish combination, the product combines a standard LED bulb with a recycle jar. As the product contains glass, it needs a protective packaging to avoid any damage, but instead of using protective foam or bubblewrap, the designers created a structure with cardboard inside the packaging where four strips of recycled bicycle tire keep the JarLamp straight in the center, resulting in an overall simple, functional, and sustainable outcome.

Pebetero Packaging
Material
Cardboard
By using cardboard as the package material, the natural and artisanal principle of brand identity are highlighted. The graphic of a eucalyptus flower is regarded as a reference of aromatherapy. The package leaves a window for consumers to see and touch the product without taking it out of the packaging. Its structural system was designed to contain two separate pieces of the diffuser in a single box, which results in highly economic production and quick and easy assembly. In addition, the package is made of one piece of cardboard without using glue, which is also recyclable and very eco-friendly.

Rice of Polar Bear Rice of Polar Bear is a rice branding focusing on the cultivation of organic fertilizer with less-persistent pesticide. The designer was commissioned to make the rice look “delicious and safe” through the package, so the material he chose was kraft paper as it looks very ecological. As “Shirokuma” translates into “polar bear” in Japanese, the white bear illustration on the package embodies a silhouette of the rice, which gives a sense of security, as well as a soft and gentle touch. The fusion of the characters of the polar bear and the rice helps to increase awareness of the product as well as the environment.

Packaging Cultive Uma Ideia
Cultive Uma Ideia—a brand created by Gustavo Zoe from Atipo Design & Branding agency— is a producer of organic and gourmet mushrooms that can be grown, harvested, and prepared inside your kitchen. The packaging, in addition to reinforcing these values, allows cultivation with practicality, even by those who do not have a vegetable garden inside their own home. Made of environmentally friendly kraft paper, the corners bent in a geometric shape allow for minimal glue usage for closure. The black printing is designed to contrast with the information and help in maintaining the temperature inside of the packaging. By removing the top cover, the packaging can be used as a vase, and users only need to replace the internal infill to start a new crop. A brace, printed on paper with more colors, closes the packaging, and allows customization, without having to print a totally new packaging, in addition to making it beautiful and visually balanced.

Arcade Cookies
Arcade Cookies is a fun new way for people to enjoy their breaks. This simple cookie box turns into a vintage arcade “Skee Ball tailored for desks and ready for the challenge. All the components of the arcade, including the runway, the scoreboard, the slides, and the metal balls, are placed in the box, which turns into the support for the scoreboard. All it takes is to follow the dashed lines on the box to tear off the right segments and fold them together following the folding lines. Besides keeping the balls inside the runway, the cardboard sides are useful to connect the runway to the scoreboard, thanks to the splits on their extremities. This light-hearted approach to packaging not only protects the food, it’s also a fun object that can be transformed into something else.

Eco Packaging Now Tony Ibbotson Peng Chong Nowadays, the sales range of goods spans across the world. It is not difficult for us to drink Russian vodka in New Zealand or taste fruits from Brazil in Japan. Packaging exists everywhere. It exists on the shelves in supermarkets, in our fridges, cabinets, gifts, and cosmetics; even some fruits of farms need packaging. However, with today’s environmental issues becoming increasingly prominent, reducing waste, saving energy, and improving sustainability of the overall products and creating green packaging have become hot topics in the packaging industry. So how do designers find ecological ways to design packaging strategies that protect
the product while ensuring that the packaging is more sustainable and not harmful for environment? Contemporary designers are finding unique and multi-functional ways to manipulate materials, structures and uses to make packaging recyclable, biodegradable, and reusable. More than 100 brilliant ideas from all over the world are showcased in this book, which are presented in insightful detail with glorious full-color photography throughout. This book will inspire both design creativity and reveal ways to help counter significant environmental issues facing the world today.
