Sheep’s Head
Sherkin Island
This bleak, uninhabitable peninsula runs along the southern edge of Bantry Bay.
The surprisingly verdant and low-lying Sherkin Island lies protected in Roaringwater Bay near the village of Baltimore.
Brow Head, near Mizen
Clear Island
The jagged headlands of Brow Head and Mizen with the spectacularly engineered Mizen Lighthouse lie between Dunmanus Bay and Crookhaven.
O’Driscoll’s Castle, the Castle of Gold, sits off the northern flank of Clear Island at Ireland’s southwest tip. Ten miles southwest is the Fastnet Rock, known as Ireland’s Teardrop because it was emigrants’ last view of their homeland.
