I skated in Public Domain board was given to me the morning we started filming for the video in my state of New Jersey. Stacy Peralta like it was Christmas morning. It was the first time seeing my graphic skateboard, and it was the very first board symbolized then—and symbolizes now—a dream come true. I said, the boards then were disposable. I was always charitable used decks and after skating the board in Louisville, Kentucky, where I took that deck apart and gave it to Sean Mortimer, who just happened to be sitting there, and told him it for the new Powell-Peralta video. I probably expected him to skate it. I never expected to see that deck again, nor did I know care to.
The skateboards in "The Disposable Skateboard Bible" are organized by decades: from the 1960s, when the first deck designs emerged; through the 1970s with the groundbreaking introduction of urethane wheels; the 1980s with its highs and lows, large decks, and the mass market; to the graphic chaos of the 1990s and the beginning of the new millennium.

Sean Cliver is a multi-talented artist, producer, author, and photographer. He landed his first job in the skateboard industry in 1989 as a designer for Powell-Peralta. During this time, he created some of the most sophisticated, crazy, and sought-after skateboard illustrations.

When African-American music broke out of the church in the early 1960s and singers such as Ray Charles and Sam Cooke added secular lyrics to gospel in order to tap into a new audience, the 7" single was the medium of the hour. The early soul LPs were mostly compilations of successful singles, enriched with cover versions, but this was to change radically in 1971 when Marvin Gaye released "What's Going On" against the resistance of his label Motown. After that, there was no stopping him.
Sly & The Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, Isaac Hayes, The Temptations, James Brown and countless criminally ignored groups used the medium to comment on grievances and experiment. Songs stretched over ten minutes and left the radio-friendly three-minute format. The music was also given a visual aesthetic, the musicians were given a face and told their story on the backs of the covers. Anyone who had previously raved about Al Green's voice could now hold him in their hands as an LP, reclining on a wicker chair in a white suit.
Today, original LPs are traded for sometimes dizzying sums. Record shops and online exchanges are booming. The feel of the record, the crackling when the needle grips the groove, analogue playback and, last but not least, DJ culture have simply defied the logic of technological progress. They say that the dead live longer. This certainly applies to the LP. This calendar is dedicated to the aura that only an original pressing can have.

About the photographer:
Born in 1974 in Emsdetten. After studying art history, philosophy, and applied cultural studies in Münster, Sarah Eick initially devoted herself to painting. Since 2000, Sarah Eick has been living and working as a photographer in Berlin. Her works have been exhibited, among others, at the Museum für Kommunikation Berlin, the Galerie König in Münster, and the 'Red Arrow Gallery Joshua Tree' in America.

Hermann Vaske is a director, author, and producer. As a director he worked with actors such as Dennis Hopper, Harvey Keitel, Sir Peter Ustinov and John Cleese. As a producer, he worked with artists such as Marina Abramovic, Shirin Neshat and Vivienne Westwood and extraordinary human beings such as Nelson Mandela, Stephen Hawking and the Dalai Lama. His films have been shown in Venice, Cannes, Toronto and Palm Springs and won numerous awards. Including the Grimme-Preis, Germany’s TV Oscar, the Hessian Film Award, Venice TV Festival, Gold Clios, Cannes Lions and New York Festivals Film & TV Awards.

Born in Germany, she started her career as a hairstylist and makeup artist before discovering the world of analog photography in 2016. From the beginning, her main topic was clear: beautiful women. It is quite astonishing what the FUMES AND PERFUMES curatorial team has collected on the walls of the Züblin multi-storey car park over ten years.
