An Octagon, while most similar to a circle, is a shape that signifies balance. This polygon carries various meanings throughout Eastern and Western cultures. In brief, the traditional Korean representation of an octagon is a person. Club Octagon’s design is a geometrical interpretation of this concept of heaven, earth, and people. The octagon has sides of the same length and internal angles of the same degree. This perfectly balanced polygon serves as the club’s geometric and structural motif. The open space that makes up the club’s entire structure including the second floor’s terrace, the DJ booth, and various other key structural points are all engineered to communicate with each other through a single center point.

Club Octagon’s special Lounge is a separate space from the main hall. This area is the first to feature audio-responsive 4D Media Lighting, consistent with the octagonal motif developed by URBANTAINER.

Blackbox Club Design Agency PARASITE STUDIO Client Club SRL Location julius Mall, TIMISOARA Area 2,000 m2 Photographers Marius Dumitrascu Parasite Studio

The brief asked for a large gaming club with completely controlled atmosphere without relation to the outside world, inside a shopping mall. The topic of signage design was how to signal the function and draw people. The vast surface of the interior proved to be difficult to organize within a coherent unique concept, due to the existing random layout of technical areas and the crisscrossing massive steel structure. The interior design started from the visible existing structure, which we interpreted as dynamic power lines, multiplied as a deformed image projected on the perimeter walls. The structure lines were translated into the whole design, and used to organize the interior, by printing them on the walls and on the floor to

highlight main routes and by using numbering for coding the different gaming areas. The entire space can be read as a communicating body that facilitates movement within it. The design focused on how to generate the outside image and signs and how to organize the interior and its specific areas. The exterior panoramic elevator and the existing windows became showcases for communicating towards the outside, functioning as dynamic screens covered with information.
