Melanie Ireland has been the driving force and designer of the Simple Kids children’s label for more than twenty years. She lives with her two daughters in a late 19th-century mansion in the heart of Antwerp. Melanie contacted top architect Vincent Van Duysen and asked him to restore the house to its original glory. The structure barely changed and many original elements were preserved, such as the imposing front door, the marble mantelpieces, the ornate stair railing... Even the gigantic tall mirrors with gold-framed frames date back to then. Melanie already bought the building in 2000, but two years ago fate struck with a devastating house fire. The renovation work lasted seven months, during which the natural stone and parquet floors were fully restored (by natuursteenrenovatie.be and parketrenovatie.be). Today there is no sign of the catastrophe that took place here and the Ireland family feels completely at home in the stately mansion with the meter-high ceilings and the light and airy appearance.

Melanie Ireland is al meer dan twintig jaar de drijvende kracht en designer van het kinderlabel «Simple Kids». Ze woont samen met haar twee dochters in een eind 19de-eeuwse herenwoning in hartje Antwerpen. Melanie contacteerde de toparchitect Vincent Van Duysen en vroeg hem om de woning in haar oorspronkelijke glorie te herstellen. De structuur wijzigde amper en veel originele elementen bleven bewaard zoals de imposante voordeur, de marmeren schouwmantels, de sierlijke trapbalustrade... Zelfs de gigantische hoge spiegels met lijst in bladgoud dateren van toen. Melanie kocht het pand al in 2000, maar twee jaar geleden sloeg het noodlot toe met een allesverwoestende woningbrand. De renovatiewerken duurde zeven maanden, waarbij o.a. de natuursteen en parketvloer volledig in ere werden hersteld (door natuursteenrenovatie.be en parketrenovatie.be). Vandaag is er niets meer te merken van de catastrofe die zich hier afspeelde en voelt het gezin Ireland zich weer helemaal thuis in het statige herenhuis met de metershoge plafonds en de lichte en luchtige uitstraling.

Elle vit avec ses deux filles dans un hôtel particulier du 19ème siècle au coeur d’Anvers. Melanie a contacté l’architecte renommé Vincent Van Duysen et lui a demandé de redonner à la maison sa splendeur d’origine. La structure a à peine changé et de nombreux éléments d’origine ont été conservés, tels que l’imposante porte d’entrée, les cheminées en marbre, la rampe d’escalier ornée... Même les gigantesques miroirs aux cadres dorés datent de cette époque. Melanie avait déjà acheté le bâtiment en 2000, mais il y a deux ans, un incendie a dévasté la maison. Les travaux de rénovation ont duré sept mois, au cours desquels les sols en pierre naturelle et les parquets ont été entièrement restaurés (par natuursteenrenovatie.be et parketrenovatie.be). Aujourd’hui, rien ne laisse présager de la catastrophe qui a eu lieu ici et la famille irlandaise se sent parfaitement à l’aise dans cette maison de maître majestueuse avec ses plafonds hauts et son apparence claire.
