Seeing Loud, Basquiat and Music
Edited by Mary-Dailey Desmarais, Dieter Buchhart, Vincent Bessières
During the late 1970s and early 1980s, New York City was financially and socially bankrupt, but the art and music scene was flourishing. During these years, the downtown New York music scene – no wave, hip-hop, disco funk and club culture – shaped Jean-Michel Basquiat as both a musician and an artist. This catalog for a traveling exhibition explores how Basquiat’s painting has parallels in his music (sampling, cut-up, rapping), and takes a new look at his production as a writer and a poet in light of his connections with the then-emerging hip-hop culture. This beautifully illustrated exhibition catalog of rarely seen photographs and images sheds new light on Basquiat as a musician, exploring how his art and music are related, and how they reflect on his identity as a Black artist in the United States, the downtown New York music scene, and contemporary culture.

“Photography has been massively important to us, enabling the band to maintain a worldwide presence while we were on tour. Denis’s photographs provide a wonderful document from that period.” – Simon Le Bon
Icons of British music since the late ’70s, Duran Duran have sold over 100 million records and continue to be one of the UK’s most popular bands. Eternally evolving, always innovating, their fanbase spans the globe. Containing hundreds of exquisitely restored photographs taken mostly during the North American and Japanese legs of the band’s record-breaking 1984 Sing Blue Silver tour, Duran Duran: Careless Memories provides an unparalleled visual history of Duran Duran’s ascent to the top, with commentary from the band members themselves.
Denis O’Regan joined the band in France, where they were filming their ‘New Moon On Monday’ video, and stayed with them until the end of the tour. Minimalism in Photography The Original
Edited by teNeues
We live in turbulent times, which arouses a longing to pare down to the essentials in many people. The trend towards minimalism is reflected in the worlds of home living, environmental awareness, and mindfulness, to be sure, but it is also reflected in art and photography. The minimalist photographer’s eye directs the viewer’s gaze to the aesthetics of the ordinary, transforming them into something extraordinary, something inspiring. The resulting photographs always use clean lines, often arranged in geometric compositions.
Minimalist artists such as Maria Svabova, Maarten Rots, Matthieu Venot, and Natalie Christensen borrow their motifs from everyday life. They can be schematic depictions of topography, or purely two-dimensional, abstract compositions. Sometimes they are detailed, sometimes large-scale. The point is always reduction.

111 Adventures Around the World That You Must Not Miss
Herbert Ypma
Our memories define our lives. So we owe it to ourselves to create as many wonderful memories as we can. Travel is great at creating memories and travel adventures create the most ‘memorable’ of memories. As they say: ‘travel is the only thing we pay for that makes us richer’. The world is a big and fascinating place and affordable airfares have made it accessible for all of us. But what will you do when you get there? Will you sit on a beach or will you embark on an adventure that will enrich your life? If you prefer the latter then this book is for you. It took more than 20 years to assemble these adventures. They are not the result of online search; they were discovered the oldfashioned way: by trial and error and by luck and happenstance. The one thing they all have in common is that the author has personally experienced each adventure so there is a reliable consistency to these 111 adventures as much as there is an exotic variety.
The ultimate insider’s guide to adventures around the world. Features interesting and unusual places not found in traditional travel guides.
