FOSTER & ALLEN: FOR A NIGHT TO REMEMBER Sun 13 Oct | 8.00pm £24.00 i
The story of Foster & Allen began back in the seventies when Mick and Tony were playing in country music bands around Ireland and had the idea to form a duo playing ‘easy listening music’ with a touch of traditional Irish instrumentals in their show. They released their first single ‘The Rambles of Spring’, which made a good impact on the Irish market, but it was not until their recording of ‘A Bunch of Thyme’ went Top 20 in Britain that the boys were
on their way to international success. To date they have released over thirty albums and fourteen videos | DVDs, all of which have gone into the British charts. In total, they have sales worldwide in excess of twenty million. Foster & Allen’s style and easy listening sound remains as fresh and exciting as ever. They really enjoy the business they are in, especially the concerts.
Eddy The Teddy and his best friend Sammy Ragdoll decide that tomorrow would be just the day for a picnic. Sammy says she’ll have to organise everything because Eddy probably won’t be able to. Eddy pleads for Sammy to give him a chance to help. Sammy doesn’t want her friend to think she doesn’t trust him so she agrees, fearing the worst. Will she be pleasantly surprised? The show uses many elements of theatre, mime, puppetry and songs to join in with. It’s a perfect introduction to live entertainment for children who’ve never been to a show before, and a welcome return for Eddy the Teddy’s young fans. Suitable for children under six and their families. This event takes place in our Studio Theatre with an unreserved, tiered seating layout.

And why does it seem that women can’t stop? ‘Defending The Caveman’ has become a peacemaker and a celebration of differences between the sexes. Starring the hysterically funny stand-up comedian, Tom O’Mahony, the Olivier Award winning show, ‘Defending The Caveman’ has won the hearts of millions across the globe. THE DEAD Dir: John Huston | 1987 | 83 MINS | Certificate U Fri 20 Dec | 8.00pm | £8.00 [includes hot whiskey or port] John Huston’s last film is a labour of love at several levels. It’s an adaptation of perhaps one of the greatest pieces of English-language literature by one of Huston’s favourite authors, James Joyce; a love letter to the land of his ancestors and the country where his children grew up; and the chance to work with his screenwriter son Tony and his actress daughter Anjelica.
The film is delicate and unhurried, detailing a Christmas dinner at the house of two spinster musician sisters and their niece in turn-of-the-century Ireland. Among the visiting attendees are the sisters’ nephew Gabriel Conroy and his wife Gretta. The evening’s reminiscences bring up melancholy memories for Gretta concerning her first, long-lost love when she was a girl in rural Galway. Her recounting of this tragic love to Gabriel brings him to an epiphany: he learns the difference between mere existence and living. This event takes place in our Studio Theatre with an unreserved, tiered seating layout.

BAGATELLE AGAIN
EVA CASSIDY THE STORY Elsa Jean McTaggart returns to The Market Place Theatre with her show ‘Eva Cassidy The Story’, with some new songs for 2020. A portrayal of the life of Eva Cassidy through video, voice and song. Elsa Jean McTaggart presents a tribute to her all-time favourite artist, Eva Cassidy. With her voice and guitar, she brings alive the essence of Eva as she relates the songs to the beautiful and yet tragic story of one of the world’s most iconic voices. Elsa’s voice has been described as ‘smooth as velvet... sultry’.
Bagatelle started out in 1978 at a time when original bands weren’t all that successful in Ireland. In fact, the idea of a band touring nationwide with a full original music set just didn’t work out… for most! However, Bagatelle’s music did work, and would establish them firmly on the Irish music circuit and worldwide.
Over those 40 years they have had several No 1 singles with Iconic songs like ‘Summer In Dublin’, ‘Second Violin’, and ‘Trump Card’. They have shared stages with legends like Bob Marley, John Denver, The Pogues, Duran Duran, Van Morrison, George Micheal, U2, Jose Feliciano and UB40.
‘Eva Cassidy: The Story’ will be a deeply personal and poignant tribute to an inspirational voice and an incredibly talented musician who was discovered by the world tragically late. This event takes place in our Studio Theatre with an unreserved, cabaretstyle seating layout.

LACUNA KATE NOLAN Fri 20 Sept - Sat 16 Nov | Gallery Lacuna evokes the contemporary experiences of children living on the Irish border. Responding to the idea of the border as a ‘landless’ land, Nolan collaborates with young people to explore the notion of the border as a place in flux. The work weaves together still and moving images, recorded stories and an original soundscape to elicit the tangible and intangible, natural and constructed nature of the border. The diffusion of the physical border means that for young people there has been minimal impact. The prospect of an international border between the EU and the UK gives rise to new uncertainties.

CURVED SOLSTICE FIONNUALA O’NEILL Fri 20 Sept - Sat 16 Nov | Foyer Walls
“AS THE WINTER SOLSTICE OFTEN AFFECTS MY MOOD I FIND PEACE AND REFLECTION OUTDOORS, MOSTLY BY THE SEA. IN THE LAST FEW YEARS MY BOND WITH THE OCEAN HAS STRENGTHENED, HELPING TO CLEAR COBWEBS AND RENEW ENERGY LEVELS”.
O’Neill’s new work captures the atmosphere and memories of a place rather than its geographical status. It illustrates the excitement of crashing waves against ancient stones and the everchanging weather. As the solstice marks the end of the darkness dip and a beginning of the lightness curve, this exhibition also moves from moody, calm colours to bright, vibrant shades.

BEING THERE HUGH O’CONOR 22 Nov - 18 Jan 2020 | Gallery
Being There is a collection of Hugh O’Conor’s photography from the past ten years, exhibited here together for the first time. He was awarded the George Byrne ‘Maverick’ award at the 2019 Dublin Film Critics’ Circle for his photography and film work. His feature-directing debut, Metal Heart, released in Irish cinemas in June.
As a fine art photographer, he has exhibited at the RHA Dublin and the RUA in Belfast, as well as SO Fine Art, Solomon Fine Art and the Cherrylane Gallery in Dublin.
