ARMAGH GEORGIAN FESTIVAL

Wednesday 27 November - Sunday 1 December 2019

VisitArmagh.com

OUR MUCH LOVED FESTIVAL GIVES ARMAGH THE CHANCE TO SHOW OFF ITS RICH GEORGIAN HERITAGE! The doors of historic buildings are thrown open in celebration of Richard Robinson, enthroned as Archbishop of Armagh in 1765 and widely attributed as being the key force in transforming Armagh into a city of stunning Georgian architecture. From its literature and fashion, to arts and food, this period is still intriguing today and our Georgian Festival gives visitors a true insight into life in Armagh City during this era. Festival highlights include The Great Georgian Banquet at Archbishop Robinson’s former Palace where guests will travel through the mists of time to Georgian Armagh when an evening like no other awaits. The beautiful Palace, built in 1770, opens its doors for guests to enjoy the lavish surroundings and to experience a flavour of Georgian high society. Armagh’s ancient streets buzz with evocative Georgian costumed figures, street entertainment and festive market stalls, hosted by traders in traditional costume and offering high quality gifts and locally produced, artisan food and drink. Celebrations include a themed children’s Christmas market, horse and carriage rides along the stunning Mall, live music, talks and tours. As darkness falls, the dramatic ‘A Christmas Cracker’ light show bursts to life, illuminating the backdrop of the Georgian Market House and creating a festive atmosphere with seasonal and contemporary music.
