HOME OF ST. PATRICK FESTIVAL Armagh is at the heart of celebrating the life of Patrick and the “Home of St. Patrick Festival” promises a lively and varied showcase of the best culture, music and spirituality.
S
aint Patrick still fascinates as one of the most enduring of all the saints. Renowned for converting Ireland to Christianity centuries ago, his profile remains iconic. It was in Armagh that Patrick began his Christian mission and established the city as the island’s spiritual capital. The festival will provide an unrivalled mix of regional and international music, theatre, spoken word, art and comedy, showcasing the stunning locations where he walked and worked. With events taking place across the city, visitors can enjoy the work of world-renowned artists and performers including Brian Kennedy with an evening of musical inspiration.
Desmond Kinney’s exhibition ‘Buile Shuibhne - “Sweeney Astray” a series of illustrated calligraphy based on the Seamus Heaney translation of the medieval Irish work. Kinney was best known for reviving mosaic through large scale murals and public art works. “THE LIFE OF OBJECTS” - LUCY TURNER 7.00pm - 8.00pm // 1 The Market Place Theatre The “Life of Objects” explores the processes of print on abandoned and forgotten materials giving them new life. The common connection for this collection is memory, materialism, history and the onetime consuming labour of craft. Maybe the life of objects is not about recycling it’s more about re-loving. Exhibition continues until 18th April 2020.

BUILE SHUIBHNE “SWEENEY ASTRAY” DESMOND KINNEY 6.30pm - 7.30pm // 1 The Market Place Theatre Desmond Kinney is best known for his revival of the technique of working with mosaics through various large-scale murals and public art works, mainly focused on Irish myths and legends. In the 1980’s he worked on illustrated calligraphy, based on Seamus Heaney’s translation “Sweeney Astray”, creating 44 paintings in the medium of watercolour, 16 of which will be on display for the very first time. Exhibition runs until Saturday 18th April 2020.
