Last year’s tour not only sold out venues all around the country, it also showed that the duo hadn’t lost any of their magic.

DAVID MEADE: WIZARD OF ODDS AD HOC THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS
JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBERG Fri 26 Jan | 8.00pm | FREE [pre-booking essential] The power of words is the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2018. Words can make a difference - both for good and evil. The Nuremberg Trials of the late 1940s heard from key witnesses whose testimony was instrumental in leading to convictions of those found guilty of War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity. Those words were crucial in enforcing justice. The defendants used the defence of obeying orders, implying that words - in the form of orders - can also be used to command us to do evil actions. The Justice Trial between March to December 1947 is one of the most interesting of the Nuremberg trials. The trial of sixteen defendants, members of the Reich Ministry of Justice or People’s and Special
Courts, raised the issue of what responsibility judges might have for enforcing grossly unjust - but arguably binding - laws. The trial was the inspiration for ‘Judgment At Nuremberg’. Abby Man, who died in 2008, wrote the screenplay for the famous film which dealt with the trial in 1948 of four German judges accused of crimes against humanity and also wrote the play based on the film some forty years later. This play will be performed as a polished rehearsed reading by Ad Hoc Theatre Company. Supported by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust

NEWPOINT PLAYERS PRESENTS
THE TRIAL OF PADRAIG PEARSE Fri 2 Feb | 8.00pm | £12.00 | £10.00 [conc] R Newpoint Players and The Thomas D’Arcy McGee Summer School are staging a rehearsed reading of Anthony Russell’s new play ‘The Trial Of Pádraig Pearse’. It examines the case for and against Pearse proceeding with the Easter rising. In this ‘Court Of History’ Pearse is defended by John Mitchell [1815-1875], a physical force republican and former Young Ireland comrade of Thomas D’Arcy McGee. The prosecution is presented by D’Arcy McGee, the Irish rebel, Canadian patriot and Founding Father of Canadian Confederation, who will suggest the 1916 Rising was undemocratic and unnecessary.
The tension between the acerbic prosecutor and the loquacious defender makes for riveting drama, interspersed by comic and ironic relief. A superbly engaging dimension to the play sees the audience debate the issues in the play as jurors in the jury room. This facilitates a participative role for the audience enabling them to deliberate on the issues as presented by prosecution and defence, as well as voting on the final outcome. This event takes place in our Studio Theatre with an unreserved, tiered seating layout.

THE CITIZEN’S WALLPAPER MARTIN NANGLE
DIVIDED CITIES - MARTIN NANGLE
Fri 2 Feb - Thurs 1 March | GALLERY
The project explores life in four cities that have been divided by segregation or security barriers. It commences in Belfast in 1973 and continues to the present, contrasting the experiences in Berlin at the fall of the wall [1989], Jerusalem [-1991] and Nicosia [2015-16]. It documents ordinary lives after a rupture of the social fabric and investigates how ordinary people transform their environment in a positive response to exceptional circumstances.
‘The Citizens Wallpaper’ consists of citizens’ journalism and photojournalism. The project engages communities in a visual representation of their traditions and cultures that produces an everexpanding dialogue. It reflects diversity in a positive and respectful way. ‘The Citizens Wallpaper’ commenced in 2012 and will finish by 2021. When it is completed the innovative illustrated narrative will comprise a 65 metre long canvas that reflects on contemporary culture, tradition, citizenship and identity from the Atlantic Ocean to the Irish Sea.
Fri 2 Feb - Thurs 1 March | FOYER WALLS
Martin Nangle is an award-winning photojournalist. Martin worked for national and international media during the Northern Ireland conflict from 1977 till 1989. After his assignment to cover the fall of the Berlin Wall he was seconded to Associated Press. Locations included Jerusalem, Damascus, Kuwait, Iraq, Cairo and later the Balkans. He documented culture and society during the early years of post-Communism and the secessionist Wars in Yugoslavia.

PORTRAIT OF A CENTURY: KIM HAUGHTON Mon 12 March - 5 May | GALLERY & FOYER WALLS Portrait of a Century is a visual time capsule made up of people who are threaded together through a shared language, culture and nationhood. Each image in the series represents the birth year of the sitter and spans a hundred-year time-period from 1916 to 2015. Created over two years from 2015 on, photographer Kim Haughton found her sitters in London, New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and across the Island of Ireland. Beyond the colour of their skin or the texture of their clothing, many of the portraits reveal something deeper than just the people in them. Exploring themes of nationhood, identity and time, the work is a photographic representation of a nation reflected in those who have shaped it in some way. ‘Portrait Of A Century’ will exhibit at The Market Place Gallery as part of the Home Of Saint Patrick Festival Armagh & Down 2018. Kim Haughton completed her MA at London University of Arts. From Dublin, she was named as an Irish photographer to watch by 2015 by TIME magazine who described her work as ‘at once sparse and textured’. She spent the early part of her career as a photojournalist covering post-conflict humanitarian issues around the globe. Her work has been exhibited in London, New York and at the Gallery of Photography and Solomon Fine Art Gallery in Dublin. Her pictures appear in publications worldwide including The Financial Times, Der Spiegel and Vanity Fair. Portrait of a Century is her first monograph.

THE ART OF CRAFT EXHIBITION 2018 - CAROLINE GETTY Fri 18 May - Sat 14 July | GALLERY Since graduating in 2016, Caroline Getty has continued to create mixed media sculptural work from her studio on the North Coast of Ireland. Combing ceramics with soft materials such as paper and fabric Caroline creates objects which when fused together create one almighty bond.
Her latest work will incorporate linen within the ceramic form, portraying an echoing statement symbolising our cultural history. Using cool and tonal colours give the objects a cold and tense approach, depicting a resemblance to past memories; stronger colours present a more evident awareness as we look to the future. www.carolinegettyartistmaker.com www.facebook.com/carolinegettyartistmaker
