ROBERT VINCENT & JESSE TERRY
TEA IN A CHINA CUP
Following their highly successful run of ‘The Sound of Music’, Building Bridges Community Arts Theatre are back with their production of ‘Tea In A China Cup’ by Christina Reid. First produced by The Lyric Theatre in 1983, ‘Tea In A China Cup’ tells the story of three generations of workingclass, Protestant women from Belfast, in the days surrounding the 12th of July. Liverpool’s multi-award-winning Robert Vincent is one of the most acclaimed voices on the UK Americana scene. 2020 saw the release of his album ‘In This Town You’re Owned’, which received critical acclaim in the UK, Europe and the US, and saw Vincent voted as ‘UK Artist of The Year’ and the album as ‘UK Album of The Year’ by the readers of Americana UK magazine. Whatever magic potion the troubadours in Laurel Canyon were sipping in 1971, Jesse Terry has managed to track it down and take a deep gulp. Now on his seventh album, ‘When We Wander’, Terry performs his beautifully crafted songs to around 150 audiences a year. This event takes place in our Studio Theatre with an unreserved, cabaret-style seating layout.
IT IS EASY TO COMPARE TERRY’S HERITAGE AND STORYTELLING TO THAT OF JACKSON BROWNE, JAMES TAYLOR OR BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. A SYMPHONIC DELIGHT FOR THE HEART AND SOUL. AMERICANA UK 9/10 VINCENT…SHOULD BECOME THE FIRST UK AMERICANA ACT TO BREAK THROUGH IN THE GENRE STATESIDE ROLLING STONE
Set against the backdrop of a divided and troubled Northern Ireland, ‘Tea In A China Cup’ focuses on an unlikely friendship between two working class girls from different religious backgrounds. This play challenges the entrenched negative prejudices in Northern Ireland with humour and heart. You will laugh, cry and ultimately ask yourself, “Can we ever truly move forwards together, if we don’t let go of the past?” ‘Tea in a China Cup’ is a set text on the CCEA GCSE Drama syllabus. Presented by one of Northern Ireland’s leading amateur theatre groups.

16 LISA RICHARDS LTD PRESENTS
DES BISHOP: MIA MAMMA Fri 30 Sept | 8.00pm | £20.00 I am often asked “where do you get your material from?” The truth is really that I try to see the funny in everything. My mother died in March 2019 and of course it was sad, and grief can be tough sometimes, but I saw a lot of funny in that too. Since death comes to us all and grief is something most of us will experience, I thought there must be plenty of people who would like that funny to be shared. Also, I did a show about my Dad being sick back in 2010 and I couldn’t face my mother in the afterlife because I know her first question would be “Your Father got a show, how come I didn’t get one?” I think it’s tougher to lose your mum. My Dad was best supporting actor. My mother was the actress in a leading role. You are never ready when the star of the show dies. So, this is a show about my mother. It’s a show about motherhood and sacrifice, anxiety and grief, the mistakes you make as a mother and a son, and the hard road to forgiveness, and finally it’s about loss, grief and the chaos that surrounds it. Where do I get my material from? Life and death! Recommended for age 16+ as may contain material some people could find offensive.

NIGEL MARTYN PRESENTS
MARY COUGHLAN IN CONCERT Sat 17 Dec | 8.00pm | £17.50 Mary Coughlan is arguably one of Ireland’s greatest female jazz and blues singers, a true artist who has carved out a timeless and highly regarded career and a legion of devoted fans worldwide. Described as ‘Ireland’s Billie Holiday’, Mary has overcome childhood trauma, alcoholism and drug addiction to become a musical force like no other. “Her life story gives weight to the truth that the best singers are the ones with the most painful lives” [The Guardian]. Her seminal first album ‘Tired and Emotional’ rocketed her to overnight fame in 1985, and fifteen albums later, her ability to deeply connect with both the song and her audience remains undiminished, a testament to her inner strength and to the power of transformation and redemption. Mary live is in a league of her own, her glorious husky voice pulling every ounce of emotion from the music. This is the real thing, sung from the depths of a woman’s heart and soul, a survivor who [to paraphrase Leonard Cohen’s famous words] “was born with the gift of a golden voice.” This is why she is so loved.
Resonant with the grief of Billie Holiday, the soul of Van Morrison and the defiance of Edith Piaf, to hear Mary sing is to be at the core of the human heart. Some material may contain strong language. This event takes place in our Studio Theatre with an unreserved, cabaret-style seating layout.

THE COLOUR OF BEAUTY MARK FERGUSON
Fri 9 Sept - Sat 29 Oct | Foyer Walls Portadown-based artist Mark Ferguson exhibits his first solo show spanning a period of over thirty years. Having studied Fine Art at Belfast College of Art during the mid2000’s, he now works from his studio at home. This first solo show includes early portrait works in pointillism style and more recent abstract paintings bursting with colour, uplifting the artist’s spirit. Diagnosed with neurosarcoidosis, affecting his mobility and mental health, Mark continues to paint beautiful works rich in colour and texture. Working from memory of passing faces these portraits of visages are created using thousands of tiny, juxtaposed brush strokes, dots and mark making techniques from a rich multi-coloured palette. The viewer’s mind is challenged by the layers of brush strokes with mathematical precision, which produce a range of colour optical effects.
I AM WOMAN
LISE MCGREEVY Fri 16 Sept - Sat 5 Nov Gallery At a time when the adult population in Northern Ireland is a majority 52% female, inequality still reigns across all sectors of our community. This exhibition aims to
support and promote female equality and diversity across race, religion and sexual orientations. By stripping away their differences, McGreevy focuses on the complex emotions that are felt by all women. This body of work celebrates the humanism and psychological dexterity of the female race. “I Am Woman encompasses both compassion for women, as well as promoting ‘confident, fearless’ women who push boundaries. Vive La Femme!”

TASTE
AGATA BANC Fri 11 Nov - Sat 7 Jan ’23 | Gallery Photographer Agata Banc from Malbolk, Poland has resided in Armagh City for eight years running her own business alongside engaging in her passion for photography. Learning about local culture and engaging daily with local people in Co Armagh has provided a fascinating opportunity to create TASTE, a multicultural project involving traditional cuisine, local people, storytelling and photography. Two cultures mingle in the everyday kitchen, tasting, experimenting, learning to cook dishes and enjoying eating and sharing of traditions at the dinner table. Agata found the traditions of mealtime in Poland and Northern Ireland shared the same meaning. Only the food served was different. Taste introduces Polish cuisine to natives of Armagh as they explore the tastes and history behind the dishes served up to them in their own kitchens; their enjoyment captured lovingly through photography in the privacy of their home by their close friend and colleague. Taste includes eighteen heart-warming photographs, nine showing Co. Armagh people consuming and learning about traditional Polish dishes, and nine works capturing the traditional food served.
