Chinese commercial developer, Advanced Business Park, ABP, has announced plans to set up its global headquarters in London. This follows its decision to make a major investment in the UK's capital earlier this year.
CRI's London correspondent Tu Yun has more. By announcing the incorporation plan, ABP becomes the first major enterprise from China to establish global headquarters in London. ABP Chairman, Liu Weiping. "The 2012 London Olympics has greatly inspired us. ABP believes that London is the ideal place to develop our global business as it has the advantages of the right time zone, good environment for businesses, and the strength of finance, information, and education services. London will host our global headquarters, while Beijing will become the center of our Asia-Pacific operations." ABP runs a couple of headquarter-based projects in such Chinese cities as Beijing and Shenyang. In May, it signed a deal to transform the Royal Albert Dock in East London into a business hub for Asian businesses looking to expand in Britain and the rest of Europe. London Major Boris Johnson says he expects the one-and-half-billion-US-dollar project and ABP's latest move to establish its headquarters in London may inspire other Chinese investors. "We have seen confidence flowing into our city from around the world. But the most extraordinary investment of all is the new business district for London, the ABP project that is going to transform the Royal Albert Dock. And that's a 35 acre site that will ultimately generate 6 billion pounds for the UK economy. And I'm very confident it's going to work and people will see what's happening in London, see what ABP is doing and want to follow suit." ABP's headquarters in London will have a hundred staff, including corporate strategy, finance, research and development sectors. For CRI, I'm Tu Yun in London.

Royal Albert Dock developers to move global HQ to London SEPTEMBER 16, 2013 BY MARTIN HOSCIK
ABP is redeveloping the Royal Albert Dock into a hub for Asian businesses. Mayor Boris Johnson has welcomed news that ABP, the Chinese developer transforming the Royal Albert Dock into a hub for Asian businesses, is to move its HQ to the capital. In May the firm signed a £1bn contract with City Hall to create London’s third major business district which will service Asian and Chinese businesses seeking to do business with the UK and Europe. The development will include more than 2.5 million square feet of office space, plus retail and leisure facilities and is expected to be ready for its first tenants in 2017. Speaking at a London-Asia business forum at City Hall today, ABP Chairman Mr Xu Weiping announced the firm is bringing its own HQ to London, a move he said would help “grow the company globally”.
Mr Xu said: “London presents many fantastic opportunities and I believe this is just the beginning of an exciting period of investment and regeneration in the area.” “We have many leading businesses from Asia here today and I will introduce the Mayor to many more when we welcome him to Beijing later next month.” Welcoming news of the move, Mayor Johnson said: “It’s fantastic to see ABP voting with their feet and choosing to bring their global headquarters to London. “A fantastic place to live and work, in the right time-zone to trade between east and west, with a highly skilled workforce and a concentration of first class business expertise, London has an enormous amount to offer businesses and brands from all over the world.” The Mayor will next month lead a delegation of London firms to China as part of City Hall’s ongoing efforts to attract new investment to the capital and help London businesses increase their sales to overseas markets.

Chinese corporations eye more investment in UK ABP’s 1.5-billion-US-dollar plan to transform London’s historic docklands is a measure of China’s presence in the UK. Here - the company that began life building shopping malls just over a decade ago - will create London’s third financial center and, in the process, some 20,000 jobs. With ABP’s global headquarters processing 30 billion dollars of projects annually in London, company Chairman Xu Weiping told me other Chinese businesses will follow ABP here. Xu Weiping ABP Chairman told the reporter:"Of course, today we have more than 50 representatives got in here from different Chinese enterprises. They’re all full of passion on APB’s move to London. I expect wel’ll have many more entrepreneurs and who’ll be coming to London for business and one of these golden keys." ABP isn’t alone in hailing the UK as a sound investment. The makers of London’s black cabs are back in business-thanks to a buyout by Chinese automaker, Geely. Chinese commercial property giant, Dalian Wanda Group, completed a deal to buy UK power yacht builder, Sunseeker International, for 500 million dollars in August. The firm also plans to build in London Western Europe’s highest residential block. Along with Thames Water many of the country’s most familiar names are now either wholly or partly Chinese owned-even Heathrow Airport. And let’s not forget Britain’s iconic MG motors, once the quintessentially British car... now in the hands of Shanghai Automotive. According to the UK government, around 500 Chinese firms are currently investing in Britain-lured it’s said by an open market relatively free from red tape. Next month, London Mayor Boris Johnson plans a trip to China to drum up even more business:

Chinese developer ABP picks London for global HQ London has been chosen as the location for the new global headquarters of Advanced Business Park, the Chinese property developer that has plans to turn the historic Royal Albert Docks into a £1bn “Asian business port”. The move was announced by Xu Weiping, ABP chairman, and Boris Johnson, London mayor, at the London-Asia business forum at City Hall yesterday. Mr Xu said the UK capital had been the “natural choice” because of its international connections, its culture of entrepreneurialism and high-quality educational institutions. More
“ABP believes London is the ideal place from which to grow a global business,” Mr Xu said. ABP declined to say precisely where the headquarters would be located, but said it would accommodate 100 staff and provide a springboard for the company’s planned push into new markets. The developer’s scheme for a 3.5m sq ft office complex in Docklands is its first investment outside mainland China. It has a business park outside Beijing and other development projects in Qingdao, Shenyang and Hangzhou Bay. Chinese investment in the UK last year was £8bn. London is attracting increasing interest from Asian investors, including the Malaysian backers of the Battersea power station redevelopment and Dalian Wanda, a Chinese commercial property company, which this year announced it would build a hotel in the Nine Elms area as part of a £700m investment in the city.
