To be a poker ace, these are the basic things we expect from a potential poker player: dedication, determination, a positive attitude, and constant learning.
Basic Poker Rules :
Poker Cards, Suits, and Card Rankings: Poker is played with a standard pack of 52 cards including 4 suits (spades, clubs, hearts, and diamonds, arranged as per their order of value) of each card. The cards are ranked from high to low in this order: Ace (A), King (K), Queen (Q), Jack (J), 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2.
Number of Players in Poker: In poker, a minimum of two and a maximum of nine players can play at a time on a table.
Seating Arrangement: The players are generally seated in a round-table arrangement in poker and the turns always go clockwise on the table.
Dealer Button: The dealer button shows that the player is the stimulated dealer and would get to act at the last in the hand. The dealer button keeps on rotating clockwise in every hand which means everyone on the table would get a chance to be the dealer or to be on the dealer button.
Deposit Amount in Poker: Before you start playing poker online, you must deposit some amount that is needed to play a game on that platform. That amount will be credited to your poker account and will be reflected in the same. You can use this deposit amount to buy the chips for the cash games and also tickets in case of tournaments.
Buy-in: Every poker game involves a buy-in amount that the player exchanges for chips that are used to play the game.
Chips In Poker: Chips are also identified as plastic money that you get in exchange for a buy-in amount. There are different colors of chips signifying different values and are used in place of real money to play the game on the table. A poker player must buy chips of a certain amount to take part in any poker game.
Pot in Poker: In poker, a pot refers to the sum of money that players wager during a single hand or game, as per the betting rules of the variant being played.
Rake in Poker: A sum of money charged by the poker platform you are using to play the game in the form of ‘Rake’ would be a share of the total pot amount that you have put in the pot for a certain game.
Types of Cards Dealt in Poker: All poker hands contain five cards (2 hole cards and 3 community cards) and at showdown, the highest hand wins.
A hand in the game is the combination of five cards that are dealt to players on the
Blinds
Blinds in poker are forced bets that are made to stimulate the players to bet during the play. Before the actual betting begins, a certain number of players (as determined before the game) place bets into the pot.We call them "blinds" as the players making these bets do not know about their hands as these bets are placed before the cards are dealt by the dealer (the person who deals the cards and who has the dealer button).
Once the players have put in the money, their goal is to recover that money by winning the game. Thus, the pot money acts as a stimulator or motivation for the players, thereby making the game more exciting and competitive. Blinds in poker determine the minimum stake a player can play for to be part of the game.
Blinds are placed by the first two players sitting left of the dealer. The first player sitting just left of the dealer places the Small blind. Whereas, the player sitting next to him (the player placing the small blind) places the Big blind, and the others get to raise, check, or fold according to their wishes.

Flop
Flop in poker means the round of betting after the Pre-Flop when the community cards are finally on the table. In this round, you can expect a real twist in the game.
By this time, we already know that poker is a game of bets and different bets are placed in different rounds by the players. After the Blind and the Pre-Flop round, the Flop round begins with a dramatic climax where the players’ game takes a new turn with the three community cards dealt face-up on the table. Here, is when they start to make the best poker-winning hand and play in that direction. You already know that the game of poker revolves around the best poker hands, so players must start working on making the best poker hand in this round as the majority of the cards are dealt now.
TurnTurn in poker is the second last betting round before the River round followed by the Blinds, the Pre-Flop, and the Flop rounds respectively.
In this round, you can place your bet after the fourth community card is dealt on the table. This card is dealt face-up on the felts and might improve the hands of the remaining players in the game.
RiverRiver round is the last & final round of betting!
It is the ultimate round of betting in which the last community card is dealt to the players. This last card is also known as the ‘river card’ or the ‘fifth street’. After this, no more betting round is conducted and hence it is also known as the concluding round. If by the end of this round only one player is left on the table and others have folded, then that player would be declared as the winner of the pot. However, the game doesn’t end with this round, if more than one player is left on the table by the end of the round. If this is the case, then the final showdown round will determine the winner by comparing the hand rankings. The best poker card hand ranking holder will win the pot.
Showdown
Showdown in poker is the final level of the game where all the players (if more than one) are supposed to expose their hands and keep them face-up on the table in order to compare them and decide the winner.
The winner of the game is the one who is found to have the best hand in the showdown round. This is also known as the ‘decision round’.
In case, there is more than one winner then the pot will be equally divided between the players.
Learn About the Basic Actions with cards :
BetBet is what drives a player to play the game. A player can opt to ‘bet’ in a hand even when none of the players have chosen to ‘bet’ in that particular round. Once you choose to ‘bet’, your opponents have to either ‘call’ or ‘raise’ in order to stay in the game.
Raise‘Raise’, as the name suggests, is the action taken to increase the existing betting amount in a particular hand.
This action can be taken to match the highest bet and even make a greater bet than the previous one.The subsequent players are then supposed to ‘call the raise’ or ‘re-raise’ in order to retainthemselves in that hand.
CallTo call is to match a bet or match a raise. A betting round ends when all active players have bet an equal amount. If no opponents call a player's bet or raise, the player wins the pot. The second and subsequent calls of a particular bet amount are sometimes called overcalls. This term is also sometimes used to describe a call made by a player who has put money in the pot for this round already. A player calling a raise before they have invested money in the pot in that round is cold calling. A player calling instead of raising with a strong hand is smooth calling or flat calling. Calling a bet prior to the final betting round with the intention of bluffing on a later betting round is called a float.
Check
A player choosing this action indicates his/her refusal to bet (or open the betting, in case he is the first player on the table).Taking this action would lead to passing on your turn to the next player on your left side at the poker table. A player can check only when there is no betting in the existing round.
In games played with blinds, players may not check on the opening round because the blinds are live bets and must be called or raised to remain in the hand. A player who has posted the big blind has the right to raise on the first round, called the option, if no other player has raised; if they decline to raise they are said to check their option. If all players check, the betting round is over with no additional money placed in the pot (often called a free round or free card).
Gesture of saying check.
FoldTaking this action would mean that you drop out of the current hand as a result of low hand ranking or no combination of cards at all.
No further bets are required by the folding player, but the player cannot win. Folding may be indicated verbally or by discarding one's hand face down into the pile of other discards called the muck. For this reason it is also called mucking.
Betting limits
Betting limits in poker are the set of defined rules and structures that apply to betting and raising in any poker game. They state how much and at what time in a hand/round you can bet or raise. To be a poker pro, you need to understand the different betting limits applied to different variants of poker as they are the weapons that lead you to win the pot.
1. No-Limit Poker Games
In games that have no predetermined betting limits like No-Limit Holdem, a player can bet to any extent depending upon his capacity. In No-Limit games only the blinds are pre-decided and are limited to a certain amount, rest you can play aggressively and steal the show
2. Fixed Limit Poker Games
As the name suggests, in Fixed Limit poker games, the extent of the bets is predetermined before the commencement of the game. This betting structure also defines how many bets or raises you can place in a round. As per the Betting Limits rules in poker, you can raise a maximum of three times in a round.
3. Pot Limit Poker Games
In some poker games, you may get to see this kind of betting limit structure where you are only limited to the pot size(whatever it is) and cannot bet beyond that. However, the pot size may increase with raises but you can only bet within the pot limit.
4. Spread Limit Games
It is similar to the fixed limit games and caps your range or spread of betting or raising. However, this is not very famous in the poker world.
5. Cap Limit Poker Games
Certain games in poker cap your limit of betting in a particular hand in a game. This cap limit is relative to the big blinds. The player is said to have gone all-in if he/she has reached the cap limit.
REBUY IN Poker
Rebuy in poker refers to a facility that every player is entitled to enjoy once they run out of chips. As per the poker game rules, any player can rebuy new chips if he or she has run out of the stack or fallen short of the chips. This facility makes the players more powerful at the table. A rebuy in poker acts as a revival power in the game and keeps the action flowing smoothly, and the players can go a long way in the game. In online poker, a rebuy makes the game more interesting and quick as there will be more betting and players can play aggressively without any hassle.
