LOWER NEW RIVER GORGE WHITEWATER RAFTING IN THE NATIONAL PARK
Get ready for 14 miles of fast moving currents while you paddle up and over standing waves measuring 16 feet from crest to trough while avoiding huge hydraulics that would swallow a house! The New River Gorge National Park & Preserve encompasses 53 miles and 70,000 acres along the course of the New River in West Virginia. Here, in the bottom of a 1,000 foot deep gorge, you’ll find the adventure of a lifetime on world-class whitewater, the biggest and best east of the Mississippi. The New River earned its “Grand Canyon of the East” nickname from its big water rafting in the Spring. Unlike other eastern rivers, the New takes on the big-water characteristics of well known western rivers in the Spring. With peak flows of 32,000cfs and averages between 12,000 - 20,000cfs, Spring rafting trips in the New River Gorge pack a punch!

MAY IS THE MONTH
FOR GAULEY GOODNESS!
If you liked the whitewater you paddled on your trip during Gauley Season, it’s time for you to come back and see what Spring has to offer! May is the month to get in on the Gauley goodness. Between the incoming water from its tributaries and water released from the now full Summersville Lake, Gauley flows can be two, three, and even four times the 2,800cfs Gauley Season fall release.
SPRING GAULEY WHITEWATER RAFTING TRIPS
Spring rafting trips on the Gauley often paddle the lower section due to the high spring flows of the Meadow River, the Gauley’s largest tributary. This is great news for a few reasons! Spring flows on the Lower Gauley are higher than they are during the Gauley Season Fall Release, often two, three, and even four times higher! The Lower Gauley is known for its huge, continuous wave trains through epic

neoprene jacket, splash jacket, and booties. We’ll get you the right layers to have a blast paddling the year’s biggest whitewater! It’s important to know what works and what doesn’t. Wool and synthetic materials keep you warm even when they’re wet, so these make for great layers on a Spring rafting trip. They can also work well as layers underneath your wetsuit and rental gear from ACE. We have wetsuits, long-sleeved neoprene jackets, splash jackets, and booties available for you to rent the morning of your trip.
