How the Different Court Surfaces Affects

the Game

When you talk about the tennis court, then it refers as a rectangular surface with a single net stretch across the center of the court.

On the tennis court the net is generally placed low to the ground and its surafce is made from the clay, grass or concrete for playing the single or double game.

Thus, the tennis players completely know about the different surfaces of the tennis court and the way it impacts the game.

Each of the tennis surfaces has its own set of qualities to affect the overall game as well as its performance.

The following points define the different tennis court surfaces and the way it affects the game of the players.

Grass court

The grass court is generally constructed using the actual grass, but it is less popular for installing in a tennis court.

Moreover, the foundation of the tennis court is a film layer of soil. So, as compared to other courts, it requires more maintenance.

In the other hand, the grass court is less smooth as compared to the clay surfaces and make the bounces less consistent.

Especially in the tennis court, the ball bounces are lower and faster and lead to more quick and low shots.

Clay court

The clay materials which are used for constructing the tennis court surfaces are made from the combinations of crushed stone, rubber, and various plastics.

The surfaces of the clay courts have smooth resistant, but they are the most expensive and require high maintenance.

In these surfaces, the speed of the ball is reduced when the ball bounces and skids and slides due to the looseness.

To make it a smooth surface, the main foundations of the clay court is concrete. The balls with greater spins can bounce deeply in the opponent's court.

Concrete court

The concrete courts are the most common types of surfaces used in the tennis court and made by combining the asphalt or some type of rubber.

These courts are made from firm materials which contain the mixture of asphalt or concrete and sand and covered with a layer of acrylic paint.

When you add more sand on the surface, the speed of the ball is reduced, have more grip, slide less and affects its friction as well.

These courts generally require the least maintenance and compatible with all playing styles and levels. Its ball bounces are consistent and predictable.

Conclusion

The tennis court surfaces are beneficial for certain playing styles and require proper maintenance for playing a successful game.

All the tennis courts are not same, so the outcome of the game can be affected by the type of surfaces you are playing.
