A best-seller, no less. “The Seven Stars Cookbook – Recipes from World-Class Casinos” just won acclaim as the Best Corporate Cookbook in the USA by Gourmand International. The book now moves on to the international awards, which feature entries from more than 135 countries. Winners will be announced at the Gourmand World Cookbook Fair in Paris on March 3. Award-winning author John Schlimm was introduced to the culinary gems of Caesars Entertainment resorts while touring the country for his last book, “The Ultimate Beer Lover’s Cookbook,” which Gourmand International awarded Best Beer Book in the USA and Best Beer Book in the World. “After spending time at a number of Caesars Entertainment resorts, I realized that these hotels are a gold mine of some of the most visionary and creative culinary

The queen of mall pop singers has grown up. Tiffany will perform at Boogie Nights in Resorts Casino Hotel on Jan. 28. Tiffany rose to iconic teen queen status in the late 1980s with hits such as the cover of Tommy James’ “I Think We’re Alone Now,� “Could’ve Been� and a revamping of The Beatles’ early hit, “I Saw Her Standing There.� She set a record as the youngest female artist to top the Billboard charts for a debut album selling more than 4.1 million copies. She made a mark with her tour of shopping malls across the country called “The Beautiful You: Celebrating the Good Life Shopping Mall Tour ’87.�

She also dabbled in low-budget movies. In 2009, Tiffany completed work on her ďŹ rst feature ďŹ lm, the psychological thriller “Necrosis,â€? about a group of friends trapped in a cabin during a blizzard. “Necrosisâ€? premiered at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. She also starred in “The Asylumâ€? and the sci-ďŹ ďŹ lm “Mega Piranha.â€? Along with fellow ’80s teen sensation Deborah Gibson, Tiffany will star in the Syfy Network original movie “Mega Python vs. Gatoroid,â€? set for release this year. The singer will also participate as a presenter in the 2011 AC Weekly Nightlife Awards on Jan. 27 at Boogie Nights, along with the group Pretty
Poison. The band, which hit the charts years ago with “Catch Me I’m Falling,� will debut its new single “No Limits,� an ode to Atlantic City. Boogie Nights dance club features a regular lineup of celebrity impersonators, including Michael Jackson, Madonna and Prince. ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ Buscemi win awards No stranger to Atlantic City, Philadelphia-bred actor Kevin Bacon mentioned Atlantic City in his brief synopsis of “Boardwalk Empireâ€? before handing the HBO show the award for Best Television Series, Drama at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards. “Boardwalk Empireâ€? beat out “Dexter,â€? “The Good Wife,â€? “Mad Menâ€? and “The Walking Dead.â€? Among the collective on stage to accept the award were actor Mark Wahlberg, who ďŹ rst saw the possibilities of a series when he read the non-ďŹ ction book of the same name written by South Jersey author Nelson Johnson, and series creator and writer Terence Winter. The series, which focuses on corruption in Prohibition-era Atlantic City, also scored a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Drama for Steve Buscemi, who plays Nucky Thompson. The Thompson character is based on real-life political boss Nucky Johnson, who ran the city throughout the 1920s and beyond. Buscemi beat out Bryan Cranston of “Breaking Bad,â€? Michael C. Hall of “Dexter,â€? Jon Hamm of “Mad Menâ€? and Hugh Laurie of “Houseâ€? for the award. “I hope to do this for years and years and years,â€? Buscemi said in his acceptance speech. HBO has ordered a second season of the series. Movies. Television. Stand-up. Books. Jay Mohr knows how to multitask. He brings the stand-up element to Borgata’s Music Box Feb. 4. Mohr, who rose to movie acclaim as a sports agent in the blockbuster hit “Jerry Maguire,â€? has based part of his act on what critics say are his dead-pan impressions of Christopher Walken, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Jerry Seinfeld, Norm MacDonald, and even Tracy Morgan. “Why a show or an act has yet to be developed around this particular skill is beyond me, but I would pay hardcore cash to see him go up against a slew of lukewarm hacks ‌ any day,â€? said Benny Gammerman on entertainment website ology.com. A performance last year at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston drew this online review from a fan: “A real oldschool comedian who deďŹ nitely gives the paying audience their money’s worth. Each hit progressive jackpots on different Wheel of Fortune machines, winning more than $4 million. Mr. Cupcakes is coming to town.
Johnny Manganiotis, who operates Mr. Cupcakes in Clinton, will engage guests Jan. 27 in the art of creating cupcakes and pairing them with wine. The pairing and baking demonstration takes place at the Viking Cooking School in Harrah’s Resort. Guests will be able to enjoy the unique avors of Cupcake Vineyards wine and the sweet samplings of desserts created by Mr. Cupcakes himself. “I actually just started pairing wine and cupcakes together not too long ago,â€? he said. “After participating in some events with Cupcake Vine-
yards, I thought it would be a good experiment for me and if I succeeded they might actually sell in my stores.� Manganiotis launched his bakery in 2007 at age 22. He has since opened two more locations with more on the horizon. In addition to The Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars,� he has been featured on a number of television and radio shows and in publications such as The New York Times. New Jersey Monthly selected his shop as having the best cupcakes. The pairing isn’t as easy as it might sound. Sweets often overshadow the taste of wine. “I didn’t want the cake to overpower the
wine, so I used Cupcake Vineyards red velvet wine and it was the perfect combination,� he said. At the Viking school, Manganiotis will be making his red wine cupcake with a chocolate ganache topping. The Atlantic City Boardwalk Rodeo, a Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association sanctioned event, promises to bring the biggest rodeo to the East Coast in the past 70 years. With more than two-anda-half hours of action, the rodeo will feature bareback, tie down and team roping events, as well as saddle bronc, steer wrestling, barrel racing and bull riding contests. The competitions will take place from one end of the arena to the other. The rodeo will offer a prize purse at $56,000 for participants. “This three-day event will bring thousands of vendors, competitors and fans into Atlantic City, and we will have the opportunity to showcase all of the city’s unique and stellar attributes,� said Dennis C. Gomes, head of Resorts Casino Hotel. “The rodeo is a real coup for Atlantic City, and a relationship that we hope will continue into the future.� This event is a direct result of Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford’s Strategic Planning Committee led by Gomes,

The Eastern Conference Hockey League afďŹ liate for the New Jersey Devils will battle its Pittsburgh Penguins afďŹ liate at 4 p.m. The game is the next in a series of winter ice hockey games in Atlantic City featuring farm clubs of the Devils. Before the start of the game, fans can meet New Jersey Devils alumnus Grant Marshall. A former right winger, Marshall is an inspiration to all with his remarkable story of recovery from a severe neck injury that he suffered while playing junior hockey.
