Come and try the finest products South Jersey offers at the Courier-Post’s Best of South Jersey party Monday at The Mansion on Main Street in Voorhees. This year is even more special because it also commemorates the reader contest’s 25th anniversary. “Being the 25th anniversary, we’ve gone bigger than we have in the past,” says Tom Martino, advertising zone manager at the Courier-Post. “We are expecting the best door prizes that we’ve ever had in the history of the party.” Some of the door prizes that will be given away are baskets overstuffed with products from local businesses, $100 gift cards to area restaurants and a hidef flats-creen TV. More vendors will be attending the party this year to help the Courier-Post commemorate the Best of South Jersey competition’s silver anniversary. There will be about 100 vendors

HOW WINNERS ARE DETERMINED Here’s how the contest works: » At the beginning of the year, the Courier-Post prints ballots in the newspaper for a total of five days. » Readers clip out the ballots and choose their favorite 10 categories. They write in the place/ person they think is the best in South Jersey. » Readers have approximately three weeks to send in completed entries to the Courier-Post. » The Courier-Post staff compiles the results. This takes almost two months to complete. This year more than 150,000 ballots were cast. » Once all votes are tallied, the person/business with the most votes in each category is declared the Best of South Jersey. The two runners-up win a One of the Best of South Jersey title. » The Courier-Post throws a huge party to celebrate all of the winners and the readers who cast their votes.
The party will take place on all three floors of The Mansion, so guests will have a chance to check out the newly renovated third

Enjoying delicious food and cold drinks in a vibrant, old Hollywood atmosphere has made the Hollywood Café and Sports Bar in Woodbury Heights a favorite in the community. In fact, Courier-Post readers have named this establishment the Best Diner and Best Neighborhood Bar in the Best of South Jersey contest. “It feels great to win, very special,” says Foti Farmakis, owner of the Hollywood Café and Sports Bar. “We love what we do here, it makes us feel good, and I am very pleased our customers are happy.” The Hollywood Café and Sports Bar has everything from scrambled eggs to steak dinners on the menu. But Farmakis says many people come for the delicious sandwiches such as a grilled Reuben, Greek gyro, crab-cake sandwich, club sandwiches and much, much more.

“We have some customers come here three times a week,” says Farmakis. “They come for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I know the kids, the parents and the grandparents. They become our friends.” And the sports bar at the restaurant has become a popular hangout for locals,
he says. “It’s a neighborhood bar, a meeting place for friends” he says. “People come to relax, get a drink and a sandwich and watch the sports games.” Farmakis says he is planning to do some remodeling this year. The brightly colored exterior and
Hollywood theme that the business is known for will remain the same, but inside there will be new booths, lights, tables and some other decorative changes. “We will be remodeling over the summer,” he says. “It’s been 15 years. It’s time.”

The gorgeous spring weather has many golfers picking up their clubs and heading out to the courses. And, according to CourierPost readers, the best place to play a round is at Valleybrook Country Club in Blackwood. Valleybrook Country Club has the honor of being voted Best Golf Course and One of the Best Places to have a Wedding Reception during this year’s 25th Annual Best of South Jersey reader contest. “We are extremely
proud,” says General Manager Albert Segrest. “And I think it makes it even sweeter that our win coincides with Best of South Jersey’s anniversary.” The golf course has been voted Best of South Jersey many times, and with its classic design featuring beautiful panoramic views, it’s easy to understand why it is so popular among South Jersey golfers. “Our course conditions are very good and it’s not a really, really long course,” he says. “And we have a fun environment. It’s kind of like a ‘Cheers’ environ-
ment.” Adding to the friendly vibe is Riley’s Pub, a great place to visit when you want to relax with after a challenging game of golf. The pub offers drinks and a full menu. Valleybrook Country Club also makes wedding dreams come true with its reception packages. Brides-to-be should check out the newly refurbished gazebo, new archway, remodeled bridal suite and the stunning banquet hall that holds 220 guests and a dance floor. “If you look out from the deck and ballroom, you see
the golf course and it is an amazing view,” he says. “And good food, value and service are very important to us.” Recently, Valleybrook added a stamped concrete patio and a fire pit to its outside décor. The pavilion was also recently redone. According to Segrest, the club receives about $30,000 to $50,000 worth of updates and additions every year. “We are very committed to making the country club better,” he says. “I think this is one of the reasons we stay ahead.” The relaxed and friend-
