Caesars opens larger version of successful eatery at Harrah’s
At the end of 2010, Cafe Tazza opened in the lobby of Caesars Atlantic City. The location proved golden for an outlet best described as upscale fast food to go. Tazza was so successful that Harrah’s Resort jumped at the opportunity to add an even larger version at the site of the former Club Cappuccino, near the VIP registration area. The concept behind Tazza, developed by Northfield-based Siganos Management, features breakfast, lunch, dinner and desserts 24/7. “It’s the same concept as Caesars, but with more space,” said John Smith, general manager and vice president of Harrah's Resort. Select from Illy coffee, pastries, bagels and croissants; fresh salads such as Tuscan chicken with shredded radicchio, celery, Granny Smith apple slices, leaf lettuce and pepperjack cheese on walnut raisin bread; and innovative sandwiches such as tuna di mare filled with albacore tuna, kalamata olives, red onions, roasted red peppers and pepperoncini peppers, topped with a white wine basil vinaigrette. And for sweet endings there’s always freshbaked cookies, pies, cakes and homemade gelato. “Siganos have a better product and a better presentation so it was a no-brainer.

Like an Italian cafe, you can sit in the walkway and people-watch,” Smith said. Harrah’s also includes pub-style tables for drinking coffee, eating a bagel or a sandwich. “Tazza” is Italian for a shallow saucerlike dish used by connoisseurs for drinking or serving small items of food. Caesars describes Tazza as a café that will transport visitors to the bustling heart of Rome. “One sip of an aromatic cinnamon latté or caramel macchiato and it’s as if you are relaxing in the Piazza Di Spagna in the afternoon shadows of the Spanish Steps,” Smith said. Caesars Entertainment has an exclusive deal with Siganos for Tazza, but it’s unlikely, Bally’s and Showboat will move in that direction, Smith said. “Tazza is more an upper-end brand so it makes sense at Caesars and Harrah’s,” he said.
