Dive into The Pool for Wet ‘N’ Wild Wednesdays

Last time Fatman Scoop hosted an evening at The Pool After Dark in Harrah’s Resort, the hip-hop promoter and personality took the unexpected step of leaping into the swimming pool. “I was the first do to that. That’s going to put people in the pool,” said Scoop in a phone call from Denmark. Indeed, others quickly followed and a tradition was born. Fatman Scoop returns for an encore performance next Wednesday. Scoop’s leap must also have caught the imagination of Harrah’s executives eager to reinvent the party hot spot. Since The Pool opened at Harrah’s Resort, the fact that there was a swimming pool seemed incidental to the party atmosphere come night time. “We wanted to freshen The Pool up. We want to focus on the water. We encourage you to hop in the pool,” said Howard Weiss, regional director of

nightlife operations for Caesar's Entertainment’s Eastern Division. To drive the point home, Wednesday has gone from Sindustry Night to Wet ‘N’ Wild Wednesday and Friday has changed from Friday Night Live to Aqua Friday. So far, the emphasis has worked, Weiss said. And to help spread the word, Scoop returns to join resident Wednesday night DJ, Vito G. “He put on such a great show, we think he’ll do the same with Vito G,” Weiss said. As emcee, Scoop will jump in during the middle of a song and start scratching. “He gets involved with the DJ. You can have a DJ battle on one set of turntables,” Weiss said. “We’re hoping if all goes well, we’re looking at a residency in 2013 with Fatman,” Weiss said. Expect a good time and not just be-

IF YOU GO Fatman Scoop and DJ Vito G. will host Wet ‘N’ Wild Wednesday Nov. 14 at the Pool After Dark at Harrah’s Resort, 777 Harrah’s Blvd. Doors open at 10 p.m. Admission is free before midnight with a pass or hospitality industry business card. Otherwise, fees begin at $10.

cause of the water. An evening with Fatman Scoop is not just about having a drink and listening to loud music, said the emcee, who got his name from an uncle who kept feeding him ice cream. “It’s to meet people, to communicate. If I make someone talk to someone else, I’ve done my job,” Scoop said. “I just have to remember to bring my bathing suit.”

For almost 30 years, Denise Rounds cut Michael Neustadter’s hair. He came in every four weeks like clockwork and during those 30-minute sessions she really got to know him. In January 2011, doctors diagnosed Neustadter with pancreatic cancer, and one year later, he passed. The Michael J. Neustadter Pancreatic Cancer Fund was formed and it raises both awareness and money for a cure for what is often considered a fatal form of cancer. “My dad never gave up and we won’t either,” said his daughter Katie, 24. To raise funds, Rounds is offering purple extensions and nails at her Bellezza Salon in Caesars Atlantic City. “Purple is the color for pancreatic cancer like pink represents breast cancer,” Katie said. Bellezza charges $10 for a purple extension and $5 for purple nails, all going to the fund. The fund-raising effort has been extended to Dec. 16 as a result of Hurricane Sandy. “There are different research organizations we give money to. It’s really about spreading awareness. People do not know much about pancreatic cancer,” said Katie, a teacher in Northfield. Bellezz Salon is in Caesars Atlantic City, 2100 Pacific Ave. For hours and an appointment, contact (609) 343-2514 or visit www.salonsbellezza.com. For more on the fund, visit mjnpancreaticfund.org
