Year 11
Learning at ACG School Jakarta
Year 5
This Semester, Year 5 has the opportunity to complete a semester long Unit of Inquiry under the theme ‘Who We Are’. We are completing a long-term project to inquire into the Line of Inquiry ‘The connection between acquired traits and the environment’. In this project, students have developed a goal (an acquired trait) that they would like to meet by the end of the school year. We are working on creating plans to meet these goals and the students will be journaling about the experience. We are also working on our fifth Unit of Inquiry under the theme ‘How the World Works’ to explore the Central Idea ‘Humans use scientific principles to understand the world’. Students have been learning about the scientific method through guided experiments. This week, we have been exploring what is rust and our experiment question, “What types of liquids will cause a nail to rust?” Students have created their own hypothesis for each of the liquids which include water, milk, Coca-cola, fresh lemon juice, and canola oil and have applied their observation skills to document changes on an experiment log. From here, we will analyse our data so we can make conclusions about our hypothesis.
