A Word about Butterscotch Baby . . .

Butterscotch Baby Total Body Experience is a small natural ingredient -based bath and body product line located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

She was born as a result of our research of natural ingredient-based products we offer from assorted manufacturers. During our selfeducation of their ingredients, we discovered there was a lot more to be offered in the realm of hair & skin care; especially to those of Afro-Asiatic descent. And keeping our own personal care issues in mind and our quest to find products suited to them, we knew there had to be others in the same pursuit of that ‘perfect product’. Our goal is to provide formulations as close to perfect as we can for each individual we service!

Our Products . . .

All of our soaps and personal care items are handmade, using only 100% all vegetable oils and butters (except for our emu oil products, which are noted), natural botanicals and preservatives, and the highest quality essential and phthalate-free fragrance oils. Due to deforestation of tropical rainforests in Asia, we do not use palm oil in any of our products. We also use no sulphates, SLS, polymers, or paraben / formaldehyde based preservatives. All of our products are designed specially by us with our own recipes. Each recipe contains their own special ingredients; some of which are, sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, avocado oil, wheat germ oil, hemp seed oil, castor oil, sunflower oil, grape seed oil, and certified emu oil. Plus loads of vegetable butters, like cocoa, soy, olive, aloe, jojoba, shea, and mango butters. If you are searching for a product suitable to specific skin types, we also have specialty items to help with particular skin types.

We also offer buttermilk, whole milk , whole milk yogurt, coconut milk, and goat’s milk soaps. All of our milk soaps are 100% milk; not powdered. We make our soaps in small batches. Each is hand poured and hand cut. No two are alike. All our soaps weigh approximately 5 ounces, and are tested by thankful family, friends, and existing customers! Our soaps are cured for a minimum of 4 weeks, making for a very hard bar that is not only moisturizing, but super lathering and long lasting. Try lathering a commercially produced bar and one of ours - notice how the lather feels softer and more moisturizing. Our products are great to give as ‘just a little something’ gift. They also make wonderful hostess gifts, wedding party gifts, attendee favors, or even just a little pampering for yourself. We currently offer over 60 varieties to choose from, with new varieties created periodically. In addition, we offer gift packs, a wedding brochure and a fundraising program. Butterscotch Baby cold processed, handmade soaps are made in small batches, with all food grade vegetable oils, distilled water, aloe vera juice, milks and yogurts, premium essential and fragrance oils, and quality botanicals, formulated for the best care of your skin! All soaps and shampoo bars must cure for approximately 4 weeks, so all bars are not available at all times. Contact us to check for availability of bars.

African Rooibos Red - This tea offers alpha hydroxyl acid and zinc to fortify skin, and a calming, earthy fragrance.

Baby Bee - Delicate, clean "baby" scent; slightly powdery. Soft and creamy.

Candy Girl Pink Sugar - This is a delicate scent, sweet, light-hearted and innocent. It smells of cotton candy, vanilla and caramel. But it's also lightened with a fresh bergamot and has an orangy citrus top note, with touches of berries, muget, strawberry, plum, and a dry-down of dry fig leaves, musk, anise, musk and woods.

Cedar & Saffron - Fragrant cedar is infused with the sensual smoky scents of patchouli, sandalwood and vetiver, then topped with Eastern spices and a trace of white musk.

Chamomile & Honey - =A whisper soft floral and oh, so sweet!

Chokolat - This daring blend begins with a burst pineapple, red berries and lemon that leads smoothly into notes of jasmine, honey and rose, and finishes into a lush bottom of patchouli, musk, orchid, vanilla and dark chocolate.

Black Amber & Lavender - This fragrance blends rustic Amber with bold Parisian Lavender. Shampoo Bars $6.00 Amla Lavender - The extract from the Amla fruit is used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat the scalp and hair. It is said to penetrate the scalp and strengthen the hair at its root. Lavender is used to prevent dandruff.

Shealoe Butter Shealoe butter is made with equivalent quantities of shea butter and aloe vera gel resulting in a healing and moisturizing emollient. Use shealoe butter "as is" to soothe dry, irritated skin, or add to your formulations as a skin or hair nutrient.

Aloe Butter Aloe Butter is an extraction of Aloe Vera using a fatty coconut fraction to produce a soft-solid which melts on contact with the skin. It aids in rapid hydration of dry skin caused by eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, sun burn, wind burn, and general chapping. Aloe butter is suitable for a variety of skin care applications including use in lotions, soaps, skin creams and lip balms. Use it to enhance moisturization.

Coffee Bean Butter Coffee butter is produced by hydrogenating the cold pressed oil from roasted coffee beans. The light hydrogenation process creates a butter with good oxidative stability and a smooth, silky feel. Coffee extract is being used in slimming cosmetics due to the natural caffeine content of coffee beans. In addition, the extract has been found to be a powerful antioxidant. The high content of unsaponifiable matter in coffee oil has made it popular in cosmetics too. The oil offers natural protection from ultraviolet light and is becoming a popular ingredient in sunscreen products. Coffee oil is rich in phytosterols which promote excellent moisture retention, quick penetration and good adherence in cosmetics. Coffee butter is a semi-soft, light brown colored butter with a strong aroma of coffee and is similar in properties to the coffee oil. It does not have caffeine in it as caffeine is a water soluble component of the bean but the aroma is of pure coffee!

Hemp Seed Butter Hemp seed butter is made by combining the fatty fractions and unsaponifiables of cold pressed hemp seed oil with hydrogenated hemp seed oil obtained from unsterilized hemp seeds. The butter is exceptionally rich in essential fatty acids that nourish the skin and helps reduce moisture loss from the skin.

Kokum Butter Kokum butter is obtained from the Indian tree Garcinia Indica. It is used in skin care products because of its ability to soften skin and heal ulcerations and fissures of lips, hands and soles of feet. Kokum butter helps reduce degeneration of the skin cells and restores elasticity. Use kokum butter is soaps, balms, belly balms, foot care products and other emollient skin treatments.

Virgin Coconut Oil Virgin coconut oil, as it has come to be known, differs from regular refined, bleached and deodorized coconut oil in that it is extracted from freshly cut coconuts, not dried copra. It has not been subjected to high temperatures, solvents or refinement procedures. Virgin Coconut Oil is obtained from freshly harvested coconut meat that has been grated and then expeller pressed to produce the coconut milk. This milk is then centrifuged to separate the milk into coconut solids, water and oil. This separation is so thorough that the oil has no moisture left in it to promote rancidity, and the oil does not need to undergo any further heating to remove moisture. Virgin coconut oil is a light, penetrating oil with excellent shelf life and stability. It smells of fresh coconut milk and nothing less. Coconut oil is a very good carrier oil for dry, itchy, sensitive skin. It will not clog pores and it absorbs readily into the skin.

Hazelnut Oil Hazelnut oil is a wonderfully light, penetrating oil that is slightly astringent. It, therefore, makes a good oil for acne prone skin. Hazelnut oil is high in essential fatty acids and is soothing and healing to dry, irritated skin. Studies have shown that it can filter sun rays and is commonly used in sun care products.

Flax Seed Oil Flax seed oil is an important oil for those suffering from eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, acne and aging skin. Flax seeds are a rich source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) an Omega-3 series of essential fatty acids because the body cannot make them and must obtain them from external sources. ALA is needed because it is the precursor to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and the series 3 Prostaglandins, which are necessary for the regulation of cellular activity. Series 3 Prostaglandins protect the body against the effects of high blood pressure, inflammation and water retention by inhibiting the production of series 2 prostaglandins, which promote inflammation and water retention. The antiinflammatory benefits of flax seed oil can also be seen when it is used externally. Topical use of flax seed oil allows the body to absorb some of the essential fatty acids necessary for healthy cellular activity. It helps soften and heal skin abrasions, reduce the swelling and redness of lesions due to skin disease and improves the overall health of the skin.

Mango Oil Mango oil is an oil fraction obtained during the processing for mango butter.

It is a semi solid oil that melts readily on the skin.

Marula Oil Marula oil is one of Africa’s greatest skin care oils. It is rich in anti-oxidants and oleic acid. Marula oil is extremely stable cosmetic oil. Its high content of palmitic acid creates a protective coating on the surface of the skin making it a good oil for dry skin sufferers. It absorbs quickly, hydrates the skin, heals skin tissue, reduces redness, reduces trans-epidermal water loss and increases smoothness of the skin.

Oat Oil Oat oil exhibits excellent emolliency and penetrating abilities. It also provides natural anti-oxidant activity. Oat oil improves the elasticity of the skin and hair.

Hemp Seed Oil Hemp oil has the lowest amount of saturated fatty acids and the highest amount of the polyunsaturated essential fatty acids (linoleic and linolenic acids) making it a key nutritive ingredient in anti-inflammatory skin care formulations. Hemp oil is said to aid in the healing of skin lesions, dry skin, inflammations of the skin and joints.

High Oleic Sunflower Oil (water dispersable) High Oleic Sunflower Oil is cold pressed from sunflower seeds specially cultivated to produce an oil high in monosaturates. The oil is naturally more stable and resistant to rancidity. It is naturally high in vitamins A, D & E, lecithin and Omega 9. The high oleic content of this sunflower oil makes it a good cell regenerating ingredient and is therefore highly recommended for mature or damaged skin. It is a good oil to use when using fragile oils such as evening primrose or hemp seed. Sunflower oil absorbs quickly and can be used in any type of formulation.

Jojoba Oil Jojoba is not actually oil but is a liquid wax. It is highly penetrating and closely resembles our natural sebum. Jojoba Oil is excellent for moisturizing and nourishing your skin and hair, is easily absorbed and is well known for its regenerative properties helping to moisturize dry skin and soften facial wrinkles. Jojoba Oil can also be used to assist in fighting wrinkles and extra dry skin.

Palm Oil Palm oil is more than just your every day vegetable oil. It's packed with nutrients that contribute to your daily energy needs. Palm oil provides a valuable source of beta carotene and vitamin E. Studies have found that tocopherols and tocotrienols, which are isomers of vitamin E found in palm oil, are antioxidants Macadamia Nut Oil (water dispersable) The high content of palmitoleic acid also makes macadamia nut oil an effective anti-oxidant. It is suitable for all skin types but is particularly good for dry or mature skin because of its high percentage of palmitoleic acid.

Perilla Seed Oil Perilla seed oil is high in Omega 3 fatty acids. The Omega 3 fatty acids have been known to exhibit antiseptic activity and may be effective against the bacteria responsible for acne. It is also believed to suppress chronic inflammation and itchiness.

Rosehip Oil Rosehip oil is rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. It has natural anti-oxidant properties and is slightly astringent. It has been shown to help improve elasticity of the skin, regenerate skin cells, slow down premature aging, reduce the formation of wrinkles, and reduce scarring (prevents the formation of keloid scar tissue). Use it in face blends for maturing skin or in blends for damaged skin where the regeneration of new skin cells is needed.

Shea Oil Shea oil has all of the wonderful properties of shea butter.

Tamanu Oil Tamanu oil, also known as Foraha oil in Africa, is obtain by mechanically crushing the dried nuts of the Tamanu tree. The oil is rich and deep in color, and it smells similar to butter pecan ice cream. Tamanu oil has a soothing effect on the skin, and it helps to relieve irritations such as sun burn, inflammation and general rashes. Tamanu oil also helps regenerate skin cells and has a hydrating effect on the skin. Research shows that Tamanu oil is a strong antiinflammatory, making it useful for the treatment of rheumatism, eczema and inflammatory skin conditions. The oil has been used for its ability to help heal cuts and wounds while acting as a germicide to prevent infection. Use tamanu oil undiluted as a treatment for eczema, psoriasis, cuts and wounds or in creams and lotions for general treatment of dry skin.

Jojoba Oil Jojoba is not actually oil but is a liquid wax. Jojoba offers the traits of both to make it a great ingredient in soaps, creams, lotions, balms and massage oils. It is highly penetrating and closely resembles our natural sebum. Use it in facial blends to remove excess oils and to help balance the natural skin oils. Jojoba contains a natural anti-inflammatory called “myristic acid� and a good oil for arthritis.

Beeswax Beeswax is a natural secretion of honey bees. Natural beeswax has the beautiful, sweet aroma of honey and a rich, golden color. Cosmetic beeswax is decolorized and filtered to remove any impurities. Beeswax lends emollient, softening properties to your products and works as a humectant.

African Black Soap There are a lot of African black soaps. Many are not as popular as others. Not because they are not as good, but simply because they have not been brought to lime light. What’s used here is Yoruba Soap. This soap, popularly known as ‘Ose Dudu' originates from western Nigeria. It is black in color and molded in balls (as sold in the local market). Yoruba soap is a very strong antiseptic soap made from cocoa pod ash, plantain peel ash, and palm kernel oil. The blackness is as a result of the charring of palm kernel to get the oil out. The palm kernel oil makes its formability high in all kinds of hard water. It is recommended for washing all kinds of skin and combating skin infection.

Black Seed Oil Black Seed has been used by millions of people in Asia, Middle East, and Africa to promote health. But in addition to its impressive nutritional benefits, the Oil of Black Seed, which is rich in Essential Fatty Acids, has been used as a natural beauty aid, as a natural skin moisturizer, and for scalp massage and hair care. It can be topically used for eczema, psoriasis, arthritis, inflammation, and scalp massage.

Frankincense and Myrrh Extracts The antimicrobial properties of Frankincense and Myrrh have been known for thousands of years. They also have potent aromatherapy properties. Those properties include stimulation of the immune system and they are said to lift feelings of weakness, apathy, and lack of incentive. These three herbs and essential oils synergize to create a soap that is anti-inflammatory, astringent, deodorant, and wonderfully healing to the skin. Excellent for rough dry skin, skin especially in cases of diabetes, eczema, and psoriasis.

Green Tea Extract Studies show that green tea contains antioxidants, polyphenols, theanine, as well as a wide variety of vitamins and minerals.

Sage Sage is also an active ingredient in some natural mouthwashes because its tannins are thought to help kill the bacteria that cause gingivitis. Sage has traditionally been used to treat canker sores, bleeding gums, sore throat, tonsillitis, and laryngitis. Recent laboratory studies support the use of sage to guard against infection-it has demonstrated an ability to fight against several infection-causing bacteria.

Peppermint Unlike other mints, however, peppermint contains in its healing volatile oil the powerful therapeutic ingredient menthol, as well as menthone, menthyl acetate and some 40 other compounds. Peppermint oil acts as a muscle relaxant.

Rosemary Rosemary contains powerful antioxidants, which some studies have shown to be as effective as synthetic preservatives BHA and BHT. Rosemary has been shown to help kill bacteria that cause infection, which supports its traditional use as an antiseptic treatment for wounds.

Lavender Lavender is a natural antibiotic, antiseptic, anti-depressant, sedative and detoxifier and it is able to aid healing and prevent scarring. Lavender is an exception to the other oils, in that it does not need to be diluted in carrier oil because it is so gentle. It is also safe to use them on infants and children. Lavender is often used to treat scalds, minor burns, cuts, grazes, inflammation, eczema, dermatitis, fainting, headaches, insomnia, migraine, nausea, bacterial infection, acne, boils, rheumatism and arthritis. From the psychological angle, lavender reduces anxiety, stress and tension and therefore it is used for calming, soothing and relaxation.

Aloe Vera Oil Aloe Vera Oil is produced by macerating Aloe Vera leaves in soybean oil. By using the oil, you can add the healing properties of aloe Vera to your product without needing to worry about the bacterial and mold growth that can occur when using the pure gel. Aloe Vera gel can be effective in healing various skin disorders including cancers, ulcers, lesions and general wounds. Aloe is also a well-known burn remedy and is used in trauma centers throughout the states.

Research has shown that Aloe Vera gel penetrates human skin almost four times faster than water. Because of its ability to penetrate so quickly, it is a wonderful addition to moisturizers, shampoos, conditioners and shaving gels.

When combined with other healing agents, aloe Vera helps these substances penetrate the skin easily carrying them to the deeper layers of the skin. Aloe is believed to have an anti-aging effect on skin. Aloe Vera also acts as an antiinflammatory pain-reliever. The anti-inflammatory properties make it useful in the treatment of acne and other dermatological problems. Aloe Vera can reduce the irritating effects that radiation has on the skin and has also been found to help accelerate tissue repair and normal cell growth.

Apricot Kernel Oil (water dispersable) Apricot kernel oil is a light but rich oil that is high in oleic and linoleic acids. It is similar to sweet almond oil and is readily absorbed into the skin. It is especially good for mature skin, sensitive skin and skin that is inflamed or dry. Apricot kernel oil makes a wonderful massage oil for babies and adults.

Olive Oil Olive oil is high in oleic acid and is therefore a good skin cell regenerator.

Olive oil attracts external moisture to the skin and still allows normal functions of the skin to take place (sweating, shedding of dead skin and releasing sebum). It is useful as a massage oil for rheumatic conditions and as a treatment for inflamed skin.

Carrot Oil Carrot oil is rich in beta carotene, vitamins A and E and pro-vitamin A which helps to heal dry, chapped and cracked skin. Carrot oil helps to balance the moisture in our skin, and it conditions hair. Carrot oil is a good oil for the face.

Sea Buckthorn Oil Sea buckthorn is an extraordinary plant that has been recognized for centuries in Eurasia for its exceptional medicinal and nutritional benefits.
