The project is an active system, which is a riverbank, a new urban park, a new circulation network, and an iconic river edge while restructuring the vast fragmented unconstructed urban area. The project connects and brings the history of the city and the site, creating a link between past-present and future. This is achieved through the integration of the existent building “River City” as way to re-envision and re-visit Bertrand Goldberg’s desire to make the river appear.

BOSTON PLANNING HISTORIES Boston Harbor, MA. USA Year: 2011 Professor: Kelly Shannon CARTOGRAPHIES OF HYDROLOGY [HARVARD GRADUATE SCHOOL OF DESIGN]
Every city establishes its own relationship with surrounding water courses. Boston, a city that has largely developed through history due to its coastal condition, is not an excepand its planning history the relationship with water has largely meant in. The process of making open spaces are one of the mechanisms used in Boston to orient urban growth, control density, and provide adequate sanitary conditions. Boston, founded space established in 1634, when the farm of Reverend Blaxton, one of the earlier settlers, became the Boston Common . Later on, during the 19th century, Frederick Law Olmstead proposed a city wide system of parks that came to be known as the “Emerald Necklace”. Finally at the end of that same century, on 1893 Olmsted’s disciple Charles Elliot, set the basis for a Metropolitan Open Space Plan, that with great clarity, not only acquired vast parcels of land to save them as public green space, but also envisioned that coordinate actions

among cities was essential in order to face the challenges of Boston metropolitan area. The creation of transportation infrastructure has also been other relevant mechanism to give shape to Boston. As an example, we could remember the Elevated Central Artery, a project that was conceived on the 1930’s as a mechanism not be implemented until 1950’s. By it was already obsolete, and the excame to happen. Moreover the construcof vast portions of Boston’s traditional urban Fabric specially at the North End district. To undo this mistake, another initiative was necessary, and the Central Artery beproject, which demanded 14.6 Billion Dollars to be implemented . Finally, if we are to talk about the planning history of Boston we cannot help but mention the Urban Renewal projects, developed in the second half of the XXth century. Starting with the approval of the Housing Act in 1949, and the General Plan for Boston of 1950, the Boston Housing Authority property, with the federal government paying two thirds of the cost, which would then be cleared and sold to a private developer at a price marked down from the prevailing market rate.” The main purpose was to attract new investments and set the bases for a modern Central Business District.

Ochoa House or Wall House, is located in a lot beside the Mexico-Toluca Highway. For this reason the program includes the construction of a wall which unfolds in order to allocate the program. This wall is also a requirement from the clients, so that the project stablish a system that can optimize its construction and yet preserving the existent nature: two trees. The main access remarks the concept while at the same time different platforms are used as transition spaces between the interior and the exterior. COLABORATION: GABRIELA ETCHEGARAY Condesa, MĂŠxico City. Year: 2011 CONSTRUCTED PROJECT Client: Private
The project is a renewal for a 120 sqm apartment located in Mexico City. The client’s needs is to augment the closet area existing on the bedroom. The proposal takes out an existing wall between two bedrooms in order to create a single master bedroom. The project is integrated through a wood panel that changes and adapts to different conditions allowing light and subdividing the space within the walking closet and a lounge area. The panels are modulated and they duplicate the existent storage area. The element is not only organizing the space, yet is a transition between different spaces.

The project as as a building in a mountain, an intervention in the landscape. The intervention is between the subtle and a material contrasted nature that becomes visible only when it is strictly necessary. Elements involved in the nature, respond to its relationship with the skirts of the mountain and the sky. This generates different perspectives with visibility and no visibility areas depending on the program requirements. The intervention consists of several individual formal objects linked by paths. These paths are placed responding to the topography, and are made out of elements of the site. Other spaces like plazas are limited and formed through the paths and stairs, taking into consideration that they should be merged with the landscape.

The project consist of an isolated group of pavillions linked through different patios. The pavillions lead to patios and patios lead to pavillions. This creates a secuence of interior and exterior spaces creating rythm and correlation into the dwelling. Each building responds to a pavillion prototype with the possibility of changing. Those variations allow a secundary phase for the housing evolution. The materiality is based on self-construction tecniques, each piece could be constructed by the inhanitant with local materials. The distribution scheme generates an urban tissue merging patios within different contexts.

Lands formerly occupied by the Texcoco Lake can be reclaimed today as part of a new ecology that incorporates nature, culture and infrastructure: a cultural ecology. The strength of a park proposal is not based on its image design, but in bility and performance, in how robust is its environmental foundation. This is why Lake Texcoco Ecological Park is not simply based on a park design but in the design of strategies for a park.
