Children’s Festival raises money for children’s hospice

Making independent living a reality

Minnesota Life College has been helping students in their programs achieve personal and financial self-sufficiency since its inception by a husband and wife team in 1996. Roe and Beverly Hatlen, known in the Richfield community for owning the Old Country Buffet at 9 E. 66th St., began the incorporation of Minnesota Life College when they saw a need for their son and others diagnosed with learning disabilities who are struggling in the transitions to adulthood. “When our son had to go more than 1,000 miles away to a postsecondary program, and when I realized that most programs had an academic, rather than vocational and life-skills emphasis, I rather naively thought it was time that I do something,” Beverly Hatlen said. COMMUNITY NOTES Luck Dog Pet Lodge places lucky dog Lucky Dog Pet Lodge is honored to announce their first homeless pet resident, Jake, has been adopted less than a month after the new business opened its doors in Bloomington. Jake was saved just hours prior to euthanasia when Tom Morehouse, owner of Lucky Dog Pet Lodge, agreed to foster the dog. One year old, Jake was rescued from Leech Lake Reservation but was considered to have poor chances for adoption. Representatives from Minnesota Partnership for Animal Welfare and Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota contacted Morehouse in a last ditch effort to save the dog. “We had just opened our doors when I got the call, so the timing was perfect. As a new member of the business community, I felt it was important to be able to give back to all the great rescue organizations here in the Twin Cities,” Morehouse said. “Jake really is a lucky dog and we’ve been lucky to know him.” Morehouse added that the owner of a dog in his daycare facility adopted Jake after the two animals became frequent play buddies.

Lucky Dog Pet Lodge is a full service dog boarding, daycare, and grooming facility located at 1067 American Blvd. E. in Bloomington. The facility includes an 18,000 square foot outdoors play area, the largest for dogs in the Twin Cities. Morehouse opened Lucky Dog Pet Lodge in August. Lucky Dog Pet Lodge has taken in their second foster dog, Gage, a 10-month old yellow lab mix, which had surgery on a broken rear leg. Gage is available for adoption through ActV Rescue and Rehabilitation; a rescue dedicated to taking in the most unwanted and neglected animals. Info: actvrescue.org.

Habits and photographs: Before you get too far into reading this column, I should warn you it’s just another spiel about one of my favorite hobbies. OK, disclaimer out of the way, let’s get into it. I’m a nut for instant film photography. Polaroid, Impossible Project, Fuji Instax, I don’t much care as long as I can shoot with a simple plastic camera and have the photo in my hands in less than a minute. I’ve got a box of exposures I’ve taken over the years, the vast majority of which are not spectacular, and I add to it on a regular basis, taking pictures of family, friends, landscapes and, too often, my cats. I don’t think it’s about the immediacy quite so much as it is about the aesthetic and the tactile pleasure of holding a picture in your hand. And, somewhat more importantly, it’s about connecting with family. As a kid, I spent time (lots of time) in my dad’s photography studio in Minneapolis, watching photographers, assistants, stylists and art directors work. I remember particularly watching my dad — who I generally refer to by his first name, Larry, a habit some may question as

irregular. I particularly remember Larry shooting everything with Polaroid before shooting film on projects so he could get a read on what the pictures would look like later. For years, any time I saw an old camera on the cluttered shelves of a thrift store, I’d drop a few bucks and pick it up to add to a growing collection on a shelf at the studio. A few years back, Larry turned the tables on me and mailed me a brand new Fujifilm Instax 200 and a few boxes of film. Without getting too far into it, I nerded out pretty darn hard on that sucker and blew through the film in a matter of weeks. He and I had a conversation last week about the history and longevity of film photography and what was lost — both in terms of product and process — when the industry went digital. The new digital cameras try to emulate what film was and what

Is shooting film a bit of an anachronism? To some, maybe. To me? Well, I guess, but that’s just another thing I love about it. Yes, I know instant film is expensive. Frankly, since Polaroid decided to stop producing consumer grade instant film in 2008, it’s been tougher to justify the price of just 8 or 10 exposures in a pack. When it comes down to it, I guess hauling around a bulky camera that’s more expensive to use and has

limited scope when it comes to taking pictures for any purpose other than to put on my wall at home really boils down to a connection to the past and remembering where I came from. Police Reports For the week of Aug. 28 to Sept. 3, the Richfield Police Department answered the following calls: Aug. 28 — On the 6600 block of Chicago Avenue South, officers responded to a report of a female who had been shot with a pellet gun. The victim and suspect knew each other. The suspect was located, arrested and transported to the Hennepin County Jail. In the area of 72nd Street East and Portland Avenue South, officers took a male into custody for second-degree driving while intoxicated and a female for aiding and abetting a driving offence. The male refused to test for the DWI and both were transported to the Hennepin County Jail. The vehicle was impounded. Aug. 29 — Officers were dispatched to Richfield Transmission, 7444 Lyndale Ave. S., where an employee stated an unknown person entered three vehicles that were parked in the lot over night. There was no loss with two of the vehicles. It has been determined that a suspect, by unknown

means, entered one of the vehicles and tore up the dash while taking the DVD/GPS system. The suspect also tore up the back seat to gain access to the trunk but was unsuccessful. The vehicle belongs to Luther Nissan and it is unknown at the time of the report what else has been taken from the vehicle. The approximate damaged to the vehicle is valued at $3,000. An officer was dispatched to the 7000 block of Second Avenue South on a report of a theft from a vehicle. The victim stated an unknown suspect entered two of his unlocked vehicles while they were parked in his driveway. A GPS valued at $150 and other miscellaneous change was taken from one of the vehicles. Both of the vehicles were rummaged through. After the report was taken several neighbors came to tell the officer their vehicles had also been rummaged through. Aug. 30 — The manager at Metro Pawn and Gun, 7529 Lyndale Ave. S., reported two individuals, who are currently on a watch list at their pawnshop, were attempting to pawn a bicycle and a XM radio, which the manager believed to have been stolen. Officers responded to a report of a domestic assault on the 900 block of 77th Street East. Upon arrival the suspect was gone. The victim had a swollen lip and other marks on her. She told the police she tried to call 911 but during the assault the suspect broke her phone. The victim said she tried to leave the apartment but was dragged by

her hair back into the apartment by her boyfriend of five months. Aug. 31- Officers took a report on the 6200 block of Stevens Avenue South that someone drove or backed into a resident’s garage. The door and frame was damaged on the north side of the garage. Sept. 1 — The manager of Davanni’s, 6345 Penn Ave. S., reported someone entered through a roof access and took $53 in change and some desserts. Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of 78th Street East on a report of an assault with injuries. The victim stated the father of her child had assaulted and strangled her. Hennepin County Medical Center paramedics transported the victim to Fairview Southdale Hospital. The suspect was not located at the time of the report. Sept. 2 — Officers were dispatched to the 7600 block of Pleasant Avenue South on a reported aggravated robbery of a person. The suspect was gone upon the officers arrival. The victim stated an unknown suspect put him in a chokehold, displayed a knife and took his wallet. The wallet was valued at $40. Sept 3 — An officer stopped a vehicle on 66th Street West and Interstate 35 West for not having their headlights on. It was determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol after failing a field sobriety tests. He was arrested for fourth degree DWI and issued a court date. The vehicle was impounded.

Betty J. Carr Betty J. Carr. Born November 3, 1921. Died peacefully after a brief illness on Monday, August 29, 2011. Resident of Winter Park, Florida, formerly of Richfield. Survived by sons Ralph and George; and two grandchildren, Sonya and Alexa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles and her parents, Alice and George Westman. Betty was reared in St. Paul, MN the daughter of a railway mail clerk and veteran of both World Wars. She graduated from St. Paul Central High School in 1939 and received a generous scholarship from Macalaster College where she graduated with a double major in chemistry and biology in 1943. She became the first female employee in an urgent artificial rubber development project at the University of Minnesota during World War II. While there she met, courted, and married her devoted husband, Charles W. Carr on June 16, 1945. On the birth of their second son in 1950 they moved to a home in Richfield, MN and became active members of Plymouth Congregational Church. Betty was an active participant in Richfield community affairs for more than fifty years. She was a founding member of the Richfield League of Women Voters, a reporter and archivist for the Richfield News, a weekly local newspaper, a long time member and secretary of the Richfield Charter Commission, an activist on water issues including the construction of city water and sewer systems in Richfield, a member of the Metropolitan Council on Aging and advocate for elderly widows and widowers, a research assistant to our local state senator, a weekly columnist for the Richfield Sun newspaper, and a devoted mother for her two sons. In 2003 she was selected to be the Grand Marshall at the Richfield 4th of July Parade for her lifetime of work in the community. After her husband died in 2009 she moved to Florida to enjoy the warmer weather and to be close to her son, George and his family. Sensitive to the needs of others, she enjoyed spending time with and hosting relatives, friends neighbors, young people, and with all acquaintances and strangers whose lives intersected with hers. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Memorial service Saturday (September 10, 2011) at 2:00 P.M. at Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel, 6527 Portland Ave. S., Richfield. Visitation one hour prior to service. Memorial gifts may be designated to League of Women Voters of Richfield, or donor's choice.

Also offered in the program are cooking classes, banking classes, and transportation classes. “When they are done with the transportation classes the students know how to go anywhere in the Twin Cities with as few as two transfers, I can’t even do that,” Thomas said. Another highlighted focus in the undergraduate program is social development and wellness. “In making sure they will be successful, for us success includes making friends,” Director of Admissions and Marketing Amy Steele said. To achieve this the school offers classes such as Managing Effective Relationships, Maintaining Social Relationships, Strategies for Success and Stress Busters. Every course offered comes with a course goal and dedicated staff to ensure each student’s success according to Steele. The other part to the Minnesota Life College experience is vocational training. “One of our goals is to have each student graduate with a job and the abilities to keep that job,” Thomas said. The vocational training classes include Expedition to Employment, Work Skills Workshops and Junior and Senior Vocational Workshops, where the students develop and utilize the skills and activities needed to obtain employment, develop personal strengths, interests and goals and to navigate through the job search process. Through the spring semesters of their freshmen year and through their junior and senior years, students will begin their

Training Internship Experience where the student is provided with real life work experience. According to Thomas many area businesses such as Richfield/Bloomington Honda have partnered with Minnesota Life College to provide internships and trials that may lead to permanent employment. After the three years the students spend at the school many decide, after gaining steady employment and developing lasting relationships, to stay and that is why the school offers a graduate living community membership, said Steele. The graduate membership allows former students to continue to receive career development services and participate in social activities among peers in a safe setting. Minnesota Life College also offers a three-week summer internship program that allows prospective students a chance to see what the school can do for them. The summer internship offers students a chance to practice social skills and participate in fun community activities, use work skills through an internship experience, with a student stipend at the end and a preview of using independent living skills such as organization, budgeting, healthy choices and safety. The school is located in the Colony Apartments, 7501 Logan Ave. S., in Richfield. The apartment complex teamed up with college to allow for independent living apartments, classrooms and offices. New MyPlate campaign promotes healthy eating BY ROXI REJALI • CONTRIBUTING WRITER Icons are everywhere: recycling symbols, smiley faces, the Apple logo. Add another icon to the list: MyPlate. It’s a new symbol to remind Americans to make healthy eating choices. MyPlate shows a dinner setting of a cup and plate divided into sections representing the major food groups of fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy products. The campaign was launched in June by First Lady Michelle Obama and pairs with her ongoing Let’s Move program to increase Americans’ physical activity. Both plans are designed to combat rising rates of overweight and obesity among adults and children. The U.S. Department of Agriculture

(USDA) developed MyPlate as an easy-tounderstand way to think about building a healthy plate at mealtimes. The colorful ChooseMyPlate.gov website has recipes, sample menus and inter-

active daily food plans that calculate food requirements based on age, gender, height, weight and activity levels. You’ll also find information sheets with useful tips on topics like ways to cut back on salt and sodium, reduce kids’ sugary snacks and creative ways to add fruits and vegetables to any diet. The new plate symbol replaces the familiar pyramid icon representing the food groups, introduced in 1992. USDA research says that Americans are confused by dietary guidelines that often seem to contradict each other. The new campaign is based on findings from the USDA’s 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which emphasized reducing calories and increasing physical activity to maintain a healthy weight. While the MyPlate image may be new,

the basic rules of good health don’t appear to have changed much. The following healthy-eating guidelines are borrowed from MyPlate.gov material: • Enjoy your food, but eat less. • Avoid oversized portions. • Make half your plate fruits and vegetables. • Make at least half your grains whole grains. • Switch to fat-free or low-fat (one-percent) milk. • Compare sodium in foods like soup, bread, and frozen meals and choose the foods with lower numbers. • Drink water instead of sugary drinks. with stability and a safe environment in a world that is far too often fraught with confusion and pain.” But with kids trying to stay faithful to a schedule involving ballet lessons, soccer practice, and study time for tomorrow’s big test, how can regular family dinners be possible? “Start out realistically, even if it means just scheduling one shared meal,” says Farrell. “Keep it simple. The focus is on being together, not a gourmet meal.” Farrell encourages parents to have children help prepare the meal to give them a sense of responsibility, pride and accomplishment, while at the same time, enhancing their self-esteem. “Any help in the kitchen should be praised, so everyone’s efforts are

acknowledged and will likely be repeated in the future,” she says. “Additionally, when children are involved in the planning and preparation of healthy and nutritious food choices, they are more likely to eat the food, a bonus given the alarming rise in childhood obesity.” Farrell says when the meal is served, conversation among family members should be the focus and technology should be banned. “No television, no answering the phone, and no texting,” she says. “This will allow you to actively listen to your children and connect with them. Also, resist the temptation to jump up from the table when you are done eating to begin doing the dishes. No outside boundaries should serve as a distraction.”

Farrell adds that family mealtimes should be enjoyable, fun and relaxing and unpleasant topics or criticisms should be avoided. “It is imperative to take time to laugh,” she says. “Share a joke or an amusing story from the day. This might help children lower their guard that they may have had to keep up throughout the day.” Overall, Farrell says parents who plan family mealtimes are showing just how much their children mean to them. “I cannot think of a more vital message to give our children,” she says. “‘You are the most important part of my life, and I love you unconditionally. We are all busy, but I will always take time to be here for you.’”

COMMUNITY NOTES Professional wrestling coming to Bloomington Prime Time Wrestling, a locally based professional wrestling league that features top talent from the Twin Cities and beyond, launches this month with an action-packed show at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 at the Knights of Columbus, 1114 W. American Blvd., Bloomington. The standoff includes such wrestling celebrities as Apostle 13, who comes from a long line of Mexican “luchadores,” Mikey Wipeout, Dennis the Menace, The Chiropractor D.C., Udo, Magic Man, Lenny Lane, Rainmaker, John Johnson and Mitch Paradise. Richfield native Gregory “Magic Man” McDonald, co-founder of the group, set aside a successful 20-year acting career to get in the ring and test his abilities against other athletes, including some who are more than half his age. In starting the group, he has teamed up with the legendary Duluthborn wrestler Lenny Lane, a one-time Cruiserweight Champion with the

World Championship Wrestling league. McDonald says that they’re on a mission to bring professional wrestling back to its roots as a community-based form of entertainment. He fondly remembers a time when families watched the shows together and localliving wrestlers were role models. “We want to make it easy and affordable for kids and families to have access to the world of professional wrestling,” said McDonald, adding that PTW’s talent pool is “every bit as good as the WWE, without the long speeches and flames.” However, he warns, “There will be some jerks and mean guys you love to hate.” After the show on Sept. 30, fans will get the chance to learn more about PTW’s monthly matches at the Knights of Columbus and mingle with entertainers and get their autographs. McDonald and Lenny Lane will also be a part of the “first card” that night. From the filtration tanks at the dolphin exhibit in Discovery Cove to the incubation areas in the exotic bird exhibits, “I enjoyed seeing the behind the scenes of the zoo and appreciate the level of sophistication they use to run the zoo,” Schuette said.

But for families who canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t afford them, they are a big deal. Thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s why Pilgrim Cleaners, Sun Newspapers, KARE 11, KFAN and Subway are sponsoring the 26th annual Coats for Kids campaign in the Twin Cities. The program allows community members to donate gently used and new coats. Pilgrim cleans the used coats and gives all the coats to charities that distribute them to people in need. Paul Gifford is a spokesperson for Minnetonka-based Hope for the City, one of the organizations that receives coats for distribution. â&#x20AC;&#x153;You canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t believe the joy that these people are showing because they

received a coat,â&#x20AC;? he said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Theyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re just happy to have a coat â&#x20AC;Ś to keep warm for the winter.â&#x20AC;? Judy Sprague with Pilgrim Cleaners has been in charge of organizing the drive for 11 years. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s unbelievable that there are people in Minnesota who donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have coats,â&#x20AC;? Sprague said. Each year Sprague sends letters inviting charities to participate, and they request the number of coats they expect to need. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Hopefully we can fill that demand,â&#x20AC;? Sprague said. This year Pilgrim aims to collect 10,000 coats. Sprague said the campaign came close to that number a few years ago, but donations have been a little lower in recent years. Demand is higher than ever.

Mary Jo Copeland of Sharing and Caring Hands in Minneapolis said the poor have always been there, but she has noticed an increased need for services because of the bad economy the past few years. Copeland estimates her organization gave away approximately 1,500 coats last year. Gifford has also observed an increasing need. â&#x20AC;&#x153;With this current economy itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s just getting tougher all the time,â&#x20AC;? he said. Though some might see the need as daunting, Copeland sees it as an opportunity. â&#x20AC;&#x153;We all have a lot,â&#x20AC;? she said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;We must share what we have with others.â&#x20AC;? BY GREG KLEVEN • SUN NEWSPAPERS Richfield hopes its second football game on its new artificial turf at Spartan Stadium turns out as good as the team’s season-opening 27-13 home victory over North St. Paul. Last week, the Spartans traveled to Mendota Heights to meet St. Thomas Academy. The Cadets (2-0) proved to be rude hosts, shutting out Richfield 45-0 Sept. 9. Richfield (1-1) returns to its familiar turf at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, when it hosts Hill-Murray (2-0). The Pioneers defeated Henry Sibley 27-25 last week. “We want to get back into the win column against a solid Hill-Murray team,” said Richfield head coach Todd Olson. “We had a close game against them a year ago and expect another barn-burner.” Richfield trailed 8-0 after one quarter and 22-0 at halftime. The Cadets broke the game open in the third quarter, scoring 23 more points. “St. Thomas Academy kept putting pressure on our defense and forced several turnovers in the second half,” said Olson. “St. Thomas hit some big offensive plays and its special teams performed in the final two quarters. “But I was very pleased with our team’s effort in that game. We showed improvement in execution from our first game [North St. Paul].” The Cadets scored in a variety of ways in its win over Richfield. STA touchdowns came on a 30-yard interception return, 28- and 37-yard passes and 9, 9- and 2-yard runs. Olson cited several players who have performed well in Richfield’s first two games. “Corban Halbur has been steady for us at quarterback thus far this season,” said Olson. “And Dhien has established

Richfield runners progress against elite opposition Bauer, Olson lead Spartan runners in two invitational meets BY GREG KLEVEN • SUN NEWSPAPERS Richfield boys and girls cross country coach Marty Huberty has lined up tough regular-season competition to get his squads ready for the post-season. The Spartans met a tough field in the Dakota Classic Invitational Sept. 2 hosted by Eagan High School. Richfield’s boys finished eighth of 10 teams with 168 points. Lakeville South placed first (60) and Apple Valley was second (74). Eagan finished third (91). Senior Jake Bauer paced Spartan runners with a 17th-place time of 11 minutes, 20 seconds on the 3,200meter course. Alex Brault was 33rd (11:49) and Lucas Blanchard came in 35th (11:52). Max Hamilton finished 41st (11:56) and Jake Beaudet was 42nd (11:58). Other Richfield varsity runners were Calvin Bergen (48th, 12:15) and Jon Libra (49th, 12:18). Richfield’s girls cross country squad finished seventh in a 12-team field. The Spartans had 213 points. Lakeville South won the Dakota Classic girls team title with 35 points. Eagan finished second (64) and Apple Valley placed third (95). Hannah Olson paced the Spartan runners with a fourth-place time of 11:56 on the 3,200-meter course. Erin Brault finished 33rd (13:20) and Sarah Nygaard was 44th (13:41). Hannah Adams placed 64th (14:40) and Sarah Schroeder came in 68th (15:14). Other Spartan varsity competitors were Erica Strom (69th, 15:43) and Maria Rupiper (70th, 15:45). “I saw lot of improvement with our runners during this meet from a week earlier at the Powderhorn Invite,” said Huberty. “The course at Eagan was tougher, but our runners worked hard and improved

their times. “The team did great against top runners and teams in the meet.” Richfield’s junior varsity teams also fared well at the Dakota Classic. The Spartan boys were eighth of 10 teams. Top Spartan JV boys runners were Spencer Bainbridge (23rd, 12:23), Nate Libra (32nd, 12:31), Ian Stemper (42nd, 12:53), Ben Nygaard (46th, 12:58) and Joe Turgeon (52nd, 13:30). Laura Kruse-Simonsen led the Richfield girls junior varsity team in 18:05. Alex Schulz finished in 18:10.

Hopkins invite highlights Richfield participated in the Bauman/Rovn Invitational meet hosted by Hopkins Sept. 8 at Gale Woods Farm in Minnetrista. “Both our girls and boys teams placed 13th out of 16 schools in the meet, but each of our runners improved their times,” said Huberty. “Many of the state’s top teams competed in this meet. “Running against the best brought out the best of our team.” Bauer placed 51st in 17:59 on the 5K course. Bergen was 66th (18:31) and Blanchard finished 73rd (18:49). Brault was 78th (18:55) and Jon Libra came in 79th (18:56). Other Spartan runners were Hamilton (18:57), Beaudet (18:58), Nate Libra (20:15) and Bainbridge (20:41). In girls competition, Olson had a 10th-place time of 15:33 on the 4K course. Brault was 60th (16:50) and Nygaard placed 77th (17:24). Adam placed 100th (18:28) and Leah Mohn was 101st (18:29.9). Other Spartan varsity runners were Schroeder (20:36), Rupiper (20:56) and Strom (22:19). Ben Nygaard was Richfield’s top JV runner with a time of 20:16. Holy Angels earns second straight football win Pagel scores four TDs in Stars’ 49-20 victory over New Prague BY GREG KLEVEN • SUN NEWSPAPERS Holy Angels’ football program is headed in the right direction during Ray Betton’s second season as head coach. The Stars struggled a year ago, going 4-6. But Holy Angels is off to a winning start in 2011. Holy Angels is 2-0 after winning at New Prague 49-20 Sept. 9. The Stars blanked Chisago Lakes 28-0 in their opener Sept. 2. “It is tough to change everything during the first season you take over a foot-

ball program,” said Betton. “But the players are adjusting to our new defensive and offensive systems. And they are believing in what we are trying to do.” Senior Will Pagel is being used heavily in the Stars’ new offense. Pagel was used at slotback, receiver and quarterback during the team’s Missota Conference triumph over New Prague. Pagel came through with touchdown runs of 16, 13 and 7 yards. He also caught an 18-yard scoring pass from quarterback Sam Keis. Pagel replaced the injured Keis at quarterback for much of the second half. “We love Will’s versatility and try to put him in position to make big plays,” said Betton. “We took advantage of his skills against New Prague. “Will is not only a talented player but

a great leader on this team.” Pagel finished with 74 yards rushing on eight carries. He caught two passes for 38 yards. Keis completed five of 10 passes for 163 yards and one touchdown before leaving the game with what was described as a minor injury. Holy Angels led 25-14 at halftime. Keis scored on runs of 28 and 4 yards. Mikias Alipate added a 12-yard touchdown run. Pagel contributed a 16-yard scoring run. Holy Angels held its 11-point advantage after three quarters as both teams exchanged touchdowns. Pagel hauled in an 18-yard scoring pass from Keis. Holy Angels added insurance with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Pagel ran 13 and 7 yards for scores. Senior fullback Tyler Newburgh

chipped in with a 31-yard touchdown run. “We started slowly in the first half and I told the team at halftime that we had to play much better in the final 24 minutes to win,” said Betton. “We matched their intensity and played well in the second half.” Holy Angels will host unbeaten Red Wing (2-0) in its home opener at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at the StarDome. The Wingers defeated Farmington 27-19 last week. “Red Wing throws the ball well and looks like a good team,” said Betton. “We must put pressure on the quarterback. “The Missota Conference appears to be evenly balanced this season with a lot of teams capable of winning the title.”
