ACOEP Committees ACOEP members are a phenomenal resource! As a member, you are invited to participate in ACOEP’s wide-variety of committees! No matter your interest, ACOEP’s active committees are your avenue to affect lasting change in the medical community. Please read the Schedule of Events on page 8 to see when these committees are meeting this Fall!
Bylaws
Governmental Affairs
If you are interested in ensuring that ACOEP is meeting the needs and standards of the members, the Bylaws Committee is a good fit for you. The purpose of the Bylaws Committee is to annually review the governing documents, and policies of the College, to determine if they continue to meet the needs of ACOEP.
With so many changes in legislation, and the health care debate that has swept the country, advocacy and involvement in government is more crucial than ever before. The Governmental Affairs Committee reviews legislation that is pertinent to medicine, specifically, emergency medicine; develops policy statements that reflect the College’s position on suggested legislation for distribution to members and their respective legislators and state agencies. The committee also reviews reports of the Institute of Medicine and prepares statements and interpretation of the periodic reports to analyze its impact on the practice of emergency medicine and residents in training. This committee also provides ACOEP members with resources designed to keep them informed of recent changes.
Continuing Medical Education (CME) CME Committee members develop, evaluate, and review the College’s educational products, programs, and venues, and play a large role in developing new opportunities for CME, such as online education, and play an integral part the medical community’s transition to the Single Graduate Medical Education Accreditation System.
Emergency Medical Services The Emergency Medical Services Committee is comprised of ACOEP members who work with other associations to bring about substantial improvements to the practice of EMS, disaster medicine, international EMS and more. The Committee provides input into the development of pre and postdoctoral training program standards, and act as consultants to the Committee on Continuing Medical Education (CCME) on the development of educational products promoting this area.
