EVENT INFORMATION

Empowering Leaders in Emergency Medicine For more than three decades, ACOEP’s Scientific Assembly has trained leaders in emergency medicine, connected the best and brightest in the field, helped physicians hone skills, studied the latest scientific breakthroughs, and worked to raise the national profile of emergency medicine. The Scientific Assembly’s smaller setting allows greater personal access to emergency medicine leaders, and gives us the flexibility to adapt to the needs of attendees year after year. ACOEP’s 2016 Scientific Assembly takes this empowerment to the next level. The key to professional growth is embracing a core set of values, all designed to target a specific aspect of development. At this year’s conference, ACOEP lays out a clear and direct path to reaching your full potential and excelling as a leader in medicine.

Leadership Value #1: To Be the Best, Learn from the Best ACOEP’s faculty is made up of the best and brightest in medicine. These experts come from every part of the country and delve deep into the most vital topics in emergency medicine. Some of this year’s highlights include Keynote Speaker David Schriger, MD, MPH, Kevin Klauer, DO, EJD, FACEP, Corey M. Slovis, MD, FACP, FACEP, FAAEM, Salim Rezaie, MD, FACEP, Alexis LaPietra, DO, Fred Abrahamian, DO, and Reuben Strayer, MD.

Leadership Value #2: The Importance of a Professional Appearance Putting forth a professional persona is a valuable tool. With the growth of networking sites such as LinkedIn, your hospital’s website, and physician rating tools, having a professional headshot is crucial. ACOEP is providing complimentary headshots to all attendees on November 3rd. Photos will be taken outside the Expo Hall. There’s no charge to sit for these pictures or to use after the conference.

Leadership Value #3: Face-to-Face Contact is Still Paramount In this age of digital connectivity, the handshake still remains the most powerful force in expanding your professional network. ACOEP’s Expo Hall gives you the chance to meet face-to-face with business owners, device manufacturers, recruiters, and more. No matter your current position, it’s always valuable to continue to grow your network, and connect with as many professionals as possible.

Leadership Value #4: Not All Answers are Created Equal There are no stupid questions, but some answers are of a higher quality than others. ACOEP’s Ask the Expert Station is your chance to get answers to direct questions and receive expert feedback. Many members of ACOEP’s faculty will be available to answer your questions, or go more in-depth about specific aspects of their lecture. This is your chance to get the most out of these educational opportunities; see the agenda on pages 13-17 to find the Ask the Expert schedule.

Leadership Value #5: It’s Never Too Late for Extra Credit What separates the good from the great is the desire to learn more and go beyond what’s required. At this year’s conference, we’re proud to launch the new Conversation Hub, an interactive venue located just outside the Expo Hall. The Hub is your chance to learn from ACOEP partners such as Sharp Medical Products, EmCare, and TeamHealth, and to dig deeper into topics like student loan repayment and finding your role in your EM group. View the full Conversation Hub schedule on page 10.

Leadership Value #6: Make Time to Enjoy What You Do Physician burnout is a very real problem. One small way to combat this risk is to enjoy time with your fellow care providers. At the 2016 Scientific Assembly, we paid special attention to planning fun events and opportunities to relax with colleagues. This year’s Kickoff Party, presented by Island Medical Management, takes place at Major League Baseball’s AT&T Park. Attendees can enjoy delicious food and exceptional views while they mix and mingle with friends. You can also explore San Francisco on an antique fire truck tour or walking chocolate tour! See page 9 for more details.

Leadership Value #7: Tap into the Power of Social Media Twitter isn’t just for celebrity gossip. Connect with @ACOEP and use the hashtag #EMLeaders16 to stay on top of up-tothe-minute announcements. Some of ACOEP’s best faculty will even take time to answer questions submitted via Twitter during their talks. Tweet any relevant question during the last 10 minutes of these lectures with #EMLeaders16 to have your question answered!
