This course is designed for adults who wish to begin a formal study of the Greek language. Four Sundays in the City: Discover Ancient Athens Sundays, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Instructors: Helen Stefanopoulos and Varvara Voulgaraki Dates: Nov. 11, 18; Dec. 2, 9 Cost: 40 euros Minimum enrollment: 6 Maximum enrollment: 20

“Discover Ancient Athens” is a program aimed to introduce non-native Greeks to some of the most important sites, museums and monuments located in the heart of Athens, but also an opportunity for natives to explore these sites in a unique and alternative way. Join us (two scholars of history and archaeology) as we visit sites of both national and international importance and collections that represent the diversity of Greece’s past. The guided tours are divided into four parts: 1) The New Acropolis Museum and the Acropolis 2) Monastiraki, Plaka, Ancient Agora and Roman Forum, Archaeological Museum of Kerameikos 3) National Archaeological Museum 4) Benaki Museum, The Museum of Cycladic Art, Byzantine and Christian Museum Each visit will be followed by lunch in some of the city’s most upbeat local restaurants and tavernas (for those who would like to continue the conversation). Cost of meal is not included in course tuition. Helen Stefanopoulos, an ACS Athens alumna, is currently a PhD student in A rch a e o l o g y at t h e U n i ve r s i t y o f Southampton and has obtained an MA in Mediterranean Archaeolog y at the University of Bristol and a BA in A rch a e o l o g y at t h e U n i ve r s i t y o f

representation and presentation of the past in the present and is currently studying regarding heritage management in Greece. She has participated in several field surveys and recordings as well as excavations throughout England and Greece and has obtained certifications in Museology and Cultural Heritage Management. She has further obtained certificates in Study Skills for students of all ages, has attended numerous seminars and workshops on Learning Differences, and has worked at ACS Athens as a Shadow Teacher in the Learning Enhancement Program. Varvara Voulgaraki has studied History and Archaeology at the University of Ioannina, Greece. She specializes in Prehistoric Archaeology and has presented several essays on the everyday life and art of the ancient Greeks. She has participated in numerous excavations and field surveys/ recordings throughout Greece and has o b t a i n e d c e r t i fi c at i o n s i n C u l t u r a l Management, Exhibition Curating and Stage Management. Currently, she is working at the Theater at ACS as House/ Stage Manager and is an MA student of Cultural Management at the Open University of Greece. She speaks Greek, English and Italian.

The Studio Art classes for Adults are suitable for those that are new to art and to the advanced in skills. It is a fun way to be creative and to improve the techniques while exploring different materials. The studio class will focus on: (Lessons 1 - 3) The fundamentals of drawing in a‘Still Life’ (pencil and charcoal). (Lessons 4-6) Experimentation with color and composition (in an oil painting). (Lessons 7-9) Portraiture, specifically ‘Self Portrait Studies’ (pencil). (Lessons 10-12) The exploration of form in a 3d sculpture - molding technique (clay, plaster of Paris). Sophia Stella Soseilos was born in Bonn, Germany, did her high school years in 3 Cyprus and completed her BA Fine Nicosia,

Arts Education degree at the University of Witwatersrand, in Johannesburg, South Africa. After that, she enrolled in the Drama Department of the same University doing Theater Design. Since then she has worked in South Africa, Greece and Cyprus as an Artist, Art Teacher, Interior Designer and Stage Designer for numerous theaters and TV set productions. She is, at the same time, a qualified and experienced Art Teacher with international teaching experience both as a private and school teacher. She is currently a member of the Middle School Art faculty at ACS Athens.

The Zen of Seeing: Art as Meditation

Artist, poet and teacher, Jeff Bear has been associated with ACSAthens for over 20 years. “Mr. Arcuda” continues his 44 year educational career through the Institute, bringing his extensive fine art experience to ‘bear’ on teaching about the process of creativity and the fun aspect of art.

graduated with a BA in Education with majors in Psychology and Criminology from The University of South Africa. She moved to Greece in 1978 and has taught all levels from kindergarten through to universitygraduates. She has considerable experience in teaching drama and art, and has thoroughly enjoyed writing and producing a number of plays. She carried on her studies, obtaining Diplomas in Public Relations, Biotherapy, Stress Management and the Science of Intuition. She completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Western Esotericism and recently obtained an MSc w i t h d i s t i n c t i o n , i n Tr a n s p e r s o n a l Psychology and Consciousness Studies from Northampton University (UK) and currently holds the post of president of the Hellenic Transpersonal Association.

Morning Yoga for Adults

Pilates for Everyone

a Yogaworks class Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. (Theater at ACS second floor rehearsal room) Dates: Nov. 15, 29; Dec. 6, 13, 20; Jan. 10, 17, 24, 31; Feb. 7 Instructor: Anita Palimeri Cost: 100 euros (15 hour program) Minimum enrollment: 6 Maximum enrollment: 12

Ninety minutes of asana-exercise-and relaxation, based on the Yogaworks class structure. The Yogaworks sequence includes both vinyasa flow sequencing and c aref u l i n s tru c ti o n , p lac i n g g reat importance on correct alignment to avoid discomfort. This morning class will benefit both beginners or students who may have practiced in the past but wish to deepen their practice. Yoga is beneficial exercise and so much more. It is a personal journey towards relaxation, concentration, self knowledge and inner peace. Teaching Creative Movement since 2003, Anita Palimeri holds an MA in European Studies, a B.A in Sociology and a Law Degree. Worked for a long time in Public Relations, in the European Commission in Athens and lived in Bulgaria, Indonesia, Nigeria and Kenya. Since 2003 Anita has taught Creative Movement to kids. Her dance experience is based on 12 years of classical ballet (Royal Academy of Dance) and continuous education in Authentic Movement & Improvisation, Contact Improvisation, and seminars in Modern dance, drama therapy, dance therapy and the Orf System. Practising Yoga since 2010 she certified as a Yoga for Kids and Families teacher, Rainbow kids Yoga LLC and completed the Yogaworks Teacher Training course (200h).

It seems like everyone is either doing Pilates , or interested in starting a Pilates Discover Ancient Athens exercise program. Indeed, one of the best Sun., 10 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. things about the Pilates method is that it works so well for a wide range of people. A t h l e t e s a n d d a n c e r s l ov e i t , a s Art Studio Sat., 10 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. do seniors and women rebounding from pregnancy. Beginners can work alongside more advanced students. The Zen of Seeing Tues., 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Pilates is a form of exercise, developed by Joseph Pilates, which emphasizes the Progressive Abstraction b a l a n c e d d e v e l o p m e n t o f t h e Thur., 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. body through core strength. The class involves working on the stomach, back and Pelvic floor muscles. There are some Success during Crisis flexibility exercises in the class as well. The Mon., 6 - 8:00 p.m. class is on a mat. So all you need to bring is a towel and a positive attitude! Morning Yoga for Adults Instructor Sharon Sagiv started dancing at a very early age: ballet, jazz, tap and ballroom . She acquired all of my ISTD qualifications and studied at Laban College of Perfor ming Arts and the PineappleDance center in Covent Garden. She then went on to a career as a professional dancer and worked for Chandris Cruise lines and the Belinda King dance company. After getting married and having children she decided to change directions and trained to get her R.S.A. certificate in the Fitness. She has taught aerobics, spin, step amd Pliates professionally since in Mexico, Finland and Israel.
