Women’s Art: Women’s Vision WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH 2008 This year’s theme, Women’s Art: Women’s Vision, was selected “to honor the originality, beauty, imagination, and multiple dimensions of women’s lives.” Women’s History Month actually began in 1978 as Women’s History Week. The Education Task Force of the Sonoma County (CA) Commission on the Status of Women (ETF) came up with the week-long initiative to combat the lack of knowledge about women’s history in both schools and the general public. The ETF decided to make International Women’s Day (March 8) the focal point of the celebration. The event was highly successful, and the idea spread rapidly. 9 years later, Women’s History Week had become nationally recognized. The National Women’s History Project asked Congress to lengthen the event from one week to an entire month. Since that time, women’s history has been commemorated throughout the nation each March.

TIPS FOR CHOOSING ROOMMATES 1. Find a similarly tidy roommate. It's important that roommates be roughly as clean or as messy as you are. For multiple roommate situations, the level of neatness tends to lean towards the majority, so avoid being the odd one out. 2. Find someone with whom you can discuss finances and money issues. Because you'll be splitting the bills on just about everything, you must feel comfortable enough with them to talk candidly about monetary issues. 3. Discuss your preferences for inviting friends over. How often do you like having people over? Do you mind if your roommate's friends are at your apartment late? Do you mind people spending the night? How often is too often? 4. Discuss how late or early you go to bed and how sound of a sleeper you are. The right roommate should have a similar sleep schedule and noise preference as you.
"Everyone has a weird roommate. If you don't have a weird roommate, then you're the weird roommate." ~ Conan O'Brien
5. Ask about pets. Allergies? Responsibilities? Are they okay with pets? Are you? 6. Choose a person for compatibility, not likability. Keep in mind that friends do not always make great roommates. Tips adapted from: http://apartments.about.com/od/roommatesneighbors/a/chooseRoommate.htm.

BLUE CREW Passionate. Loud. Intense. Blue. Crazy. These are just a few choice adjectives to describe the students that make up the Blue Crew, a group of die-hard men’s Tiger basketball fans. You can’t miss them. They’re at every game, passionately cheering on the Tigers—a sea of blue behind the goal, harassing the other team and encouraging ours. Their desire is to create a strong student fan base and a fun atmosphere for those fans during games. They also have some great perks: official t-shirts, road trips and watch parties, to name a few. Anyone interested in joining Blue Crew should email UofMBlueCrew@gmail.com. What better way to support your Memphis Tigers?
