University of Memphis Women’s History Month Celebration Women’s History Month is a time to recognize and honor strong, courageous women who have made a difference in the world and to increase knowledge and awareness of women’s history. Wednesday, March 19, The University of Memphis is hosting an opening ceremony for Women’s History Month, which will be held in the UC Theater at 12 p.m. There will be comments by Dr. Zandra Robinson , assistant professor of Sociology and author of This Ain’t Chicago: Race , Class and Regional Identity in the Post-Soul South. She will discuss the significance of feminism for advancing gender equality. “The F– Word” a short film produced by Dr. Chrsitine Eisel, instructor of colonial American History will also be shown during the ceremony and will highlight media portrayals of feminism. Following the ceremony, everyone is invited to join the March for Women’s History and Feminism Fair at the Alumni Mall, which is hosted by the Alumni Association and Midday Moves from 12:30—1:30 p.m.. This event will highlight the theme “This is What a Feminist Looks Like.” The Center for Research on Women have given out multiple shirts with the theme “This is What a Feminist Looks Like,” and they are encouraging everyone, (including men), to wear the shirt on the day of the opening ceremony. This is event is free and open to the public.
