With so many people ďż˝ring up their grills, itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s important to recognize the importance of grilling safety. Each year an average of 8,900 home ďż˝res are caused by grilling, and close to half of all injuries involving grills are due to thermal burns, advises the National Fire Protection Association. Hereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s how to stay safe. â&#x20AC;˘ Only grill outside. Propane and charcoal barbecue grills should only be used outdoors. Grills should be placed well away from the home. Keep grills away from deck railings, eaves, overhangs, and tree branches. â&#x20AC;˘ Keep the grill clean. Thoroughly clean the grill prior to ďż˝rst use, and keep it tidy all year long. Grease or fat buildup can ignite and cause a ďż˝re. â&#x20AC;˘ Always attend the grill. Grill distraction-free and keep an eye on the food being cooked. Simply stepping away for a few moments can lead to a ďż˝re or accident. â&#x20AC;˘ Start ďż˝res safely. Charcoal grills and gas grills may be lit using electronic starters that do not require ďż˝re. If using starter ďż˝uid, only do so on charcoal, and do not add more ďż˝uid or other ďż˝ammable liquids after the ďż˝re has ignited. â&#x20AC;˘ Check for gas leaks. Whether the gas grill is hooked up to a propane tank or the natural gas supply of a home, ensure that the hoses or tanks are not leaking. Apply a light soap-and-water solution to hoses to see if they bubble from leaking gas. â&#x20AC;˘ Keep baking soda nearby. Baking soda can control grease ďż˝res, but itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s also helpful to have a ďż˝re extinguisher or a bucket of sand on hand for other types of ďż˝res. â&#x20AC;˘ Watch children and pets. Keep children and pets at least three feet away from grilling areas. â&#x20AC;˘ Wait for the grill and coals to cool. Practice safety around the grill until all coals are cool and the grill is no longer hot to the touch. Only then should the grill be moved or relocated. Grilling is a passion that is enjoyed throughout much of the year. Safely cook outdoors by heeding safety guidelines.

Understanding Factors That Can Contribute To Fatigue Women serve many roles each day. From mothers to employees to spouses, women must perform a balancing act that can lead to fatigue as a side effect. According to recent research from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, women are more likely than men to say theyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re tired or even exhausted. All of that running around certainly can contribute to fatigue, but other factors also can lead to tiredness. Getting to the root of fatigue can help women regain their energy levels. Insufďż˝cient sleep Women tend to multitask and use more of their brains than men, leading to a greater need for sleep, reports the National Sleep Foundation. Even though they may require more hours of shuteye, many women are not getting the proper rest. In order to gain more energy, NSF recommends women get regular exercise, limit their caffeine and alcohol intake, improve their sleeping environments (i.e. a dark, cool room), and establish routine sleep and wake times to promote better chances of sleeping between seven and nine per night. The NSF also notes that women are more likely than men to experience insomnia. Women whose energy levels are dwindling due to sleeplessness should seek assistance from their physicians. Stress The Womenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Health Network points out that constant stress or adrenal hormone imbalance can rob women of energy, leading to feelings of tiredness all the time. Finding successful methods of relieving stress can help women regain energy. Delegating work or asking for help is one way for women to lighten their workloads. Mindfulness and meditation may help calm overactive thoughts. Exercise also is a healthy way to relieve stress and can promote the release of feel-good endorphins. Anemia Anemia may be the culprit behind some womenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s sagging energy levels. The Mayo Clinic deďż˝nes anemia as a condition in which the body does not have sufďż˝cient healthy red blood cells to carry enough oxygen to bodily tissues. Anemia may be mild or severe, temporary or chronic. Treatment for anemia may be as simple as eating a healthy diet. Supplementation with iron or iron-rich foods may be recommended as well. Anemia also can be caused by hidden blood loss. Thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s why itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s best to address anemia under the supervision of a doctor. Lack of exercise Although it may seem like exercise would tire a person out, the opposite is true. WebMD says studies consistently show that people who exercise regularly experience less fatigue than those who do not. The reasons are not completely understood, but it could be due to exercise helping the body to work more efďż˝ciently and pumping oxygen-rich blood where it is needed. Exercise can help with sleep issues, anxiety and depression, which also zap energy levels. To boost energy, exercise in the low- to medium-exertion range. Exercises to try include biking, walking, light resistance training, or even yoga. Restoring energy levels can be easier once the source of fatigue is identiďż˝ed.
