ANSWER: It is totally up to you how long to keep your vehicle: a week, a month, several months. But if you keep it for 48 months, you get the title and take ownership!

Question: So, I can keep it or give it back?

Answer: Yes. That’s one of the great things about our program, you can turn your vehicle in at any time without penalty you can upgrade to a newer vehicle or just walk away. You will never be “upside down” in a car loan again!

ANSWER: It depends on the vehicle that you pick out, but generally our payments range from $185-$300** biweekly. Another great feature of our program is that everything is included in your payment. ANSWER: The average American drives 15,000 miles per year.

But we have included a 20,000 mile per year allowance at no additional charge. If you drive more than that, we can add extra mileage into your contract for an additional charge.

Improve Visibility While Trick-or-Treating (And Other Safety Tips) Thousands of costume-clad children will embark on treat�nding missions in neighborhoods all across the country this Halloween. Everyone wants their Halloween festivities to be fun, but it is important that trickor-treaters and their chaperones prioritize safety as well.

The child welfare organization Safe Kids says that twice as many child pedestrians are killed while walking on Halloween compared to other days of the year. In addition, the National Safety Council states that darting out or running into the road accounts for about 70 percent of pedestrian deaths or injuries among children between the ages of �ve and nine and about 47 percent of incidents for kids between the ages of 10 and 14.

Ensuring trick-or-treating youngsters are visible to motorists can make Halloween safer for everyone involved. The American Academy of Pediatrics and other safety groups suggest the following strategies for safe trick-or-treating.

• Supervise the festivities. Adults should chaperone young trick-or-treaters who are unlikely to be focused on safety in the midst of Halloween excitement.

• Use re�ective tape or LED lights. Dark costumes coupled with twilight can make it dif�cult for motorists to see trick-or-treating youngsters. Parents can improve the chances of their kids being seen by motorists by adhering re�ective tape onto kids’ costumes. Glow sticks and wearable LED lights also can illuminate trick-or-treaters.

• Carry lanterns or �ashlights. Children and/or chaperones who carry �ashlights and lanterns can improve their own visibility while also making themselves more visible to motorists. Lanterns and �ashlights help trick-or-treaters avoid holes, cracked pavement and other obstacles. For those children who want to free up their hands for better treat gathering, lights that strap to the head are an option.

• Keep the lights on. Homeowners can do their part by keeping outdoor �ood lights and accent lighting on to make paths safer for youngsters on the prowl for Halloween candy.

• Choose face makeup over masks. Children wearing masks may not spot oncoming cars or other hazards. Face makeup won’t affect kids’ visibility but will still help them look scary.

With the right combination of caution and fun, Halloween can be an enjoyable time for youngsters and adults.

Caribbean Culture Gave Rise To The Zombie Fans of the popular television show “The Walking Dead” know that the show follows a group of people trying to survive a postapocalyptic world dominated by reanimated dead humans who feed on the �esh of other living creatures. While they’re referred to as “walkers” by everyone on the show, viewers are led to believe these creatures are “zombies.”

Zombies have long been a subject of horror movies, video games and scary tales.

Zombies are believed to be corpses without souls who have been reanimated through supernatural means. Unbeknownst to many, the lumbering undead on the search for fresh brains that makes up the contemporary zombie characterization actually trace their roots to the Caribbean.

Some speculate the word “zombie” was derived from West African languages. The Oxford English Dictionary says “zombie” is a word that was �rst recorded in English in 1819. It is related to words zumbi, meaning “fetish,” and nzambi meaning, “a god.”

In spirit religions, such as the voudou (voodoo) practiced by some Haitians, zombies are not �esh-eating corpses but the unfortunate dead whose souls were stolen. According to content published by the University of Michigan, believers of voodoo believed people could die naturally through sickness or a god’s will. Those who died unnaturally due to murder, suicide or before their time would linger at their graves until the gods offered them respite. During this period, souls would be vulnerable to powerful sorcerers known as “boko.” A boko could capture the soul and keep it in a bottle, controlling the undead body or just the soul. Under the best circumstances, zombies helped the boko, but unsavory boko could use the zombies as slaves. Many Haitians did not fear the zombies, but rather were afraid of becoming zombies against their will.

Another interpretation published in The Atlantic says zombies were of their own making. During the 17th and 18th centuries, Haiti was ruled by France and known as SaintDomingue. During this period, African slaves were used to work on sugar plantations where the working and living conditions were brutal. Death was seen as a release back to their home countries. However, suicide was frowned upon and would not allow souls to return to Africa. The souls of slaves who committed suicide would be condemned to roam plantations for eternity.

When the United States brie�y occupied Haiti in the early twentieth century, zombie stories and rumors began to grow popular. Stories of zombies permeated American culture.

Writers and �lmmakers have long offered their own interpretations of zombies. However, many of these interpretations have little, if any, similarities to the zombie stories rooted in Caribbean culture.
