THE CHASE FOR ROARK Began out of a desire to tell stories born of adventure and discovery, while striving to create the essential gear to pack for modern travel. Inspired by the culture and climate of our destination, we build collections of clothing, luggage and trinkets.

The steamy, oft-not-touristed island of Java offered an unusual opportunity for our Spring expedition into the depths of the frenetic mainland and wild, neighboring island of Panaitan. Inspired by the vibrant local textile processes, ancient Javanese mystique, equatorial climate and a dusty tropical palette, we came for a variety of reasons — but mostly, to satisfy our innate urges to explore far corners of the world, meet new cultures, cheat death, and get shacked. Our itinerary not only fulfilled these duties, but evolved into a higher calling of sorts, compelling us to

giveback to such a lovely destination and community. Our crew of Revivalists was comprised of surfers Parker Coffin, Nate Zoller, and Ivah Wilmot, climber and photographer Drew Smith, writer and storyteller Beau Flemister, photographer and guide Jack Bailey, and skateboarders Jamie Thomas and Jonno Gaitan. Upon arrival, the crew was greeted by the frenzied and overpopulated streets of Jakarta, 4am wake up calls courtesy of the echoing morning prayers reverberating like an oddly familiar song throughout the region. After local guidance and a successful city skate mission, we motored south through the rice patties and arrived at a cave hidden in an illegal mining zone; a cave literally dripping quartz stones that let Drew Smith do his thing: climb. With the frantic, clogged artery-like jalans (roads) of Java not making our commute west easy, we hopped on the motos for what became a 7-hour survival race in the dark, dodging potholes and flashflood puddles into the villages of Banten where we provided clean water and filtration systems to a handful of villages, plus modern educational equipment for elementary students. It was game-changer for the people we met and for our spirits, teaching us that for all we take in life, giving is certainly the greatest drug of all. Feeling landlocked on the interior of Java, we decided to set sail aboard the intrepid “Just Dreaming” in search of swell on Panaitan Island – an uninhabited, extinct volcano near the fabled Krakatoa and part of the famed Ujung Kulon National Park. The island welcomed us with fresh fish to spear for feed, a morale defeating trek to the oldest remaining Buddhist temple in Indonesia, staph infections for the weary and empty barrels on tap for the entire crew. Indeed, in Java the sultry equatorial air softened our soul, the fever took hold and it triggered hallucinogenic daydreaming of all things adventure this Spring. Enjoy the journey and travel well...
