Components of an Apprenticeship Framework The Specification of Apprenticeship Standards for England (SASE) set out requirements to be included in recognised, English, Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeship Frameworks. All Apprenticeship frameworks must include the following:

Competency Based Qualifications (CBQ)
Knowledge Based Qualifications (KBQ)
Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
These types of qualification are achieved by the Apprentice demonstrating competence in performing the skill, trade or occupation to which the framework relates. These qualifications are underpinned by National Occupational Standards (NOS) and are designed to be assessed in the learner’s place of work.
A technical knowledge qualification, also underpinned by NOS must be achieved by the Apprentice demonstrating the technical skills, knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts and knowledge and understanding of the industry and its market relevant to the skill, trade or occupation to which the framework relates.
Some Active IQ Apprenticeships include this component of the framework within the knowledge of competency based elements, but other AIQ Apprenticeships contain the ERR as a specific qualification. Each Apprentice must achieve standards of attainment set out in the ERR national outcomes to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the following: •

The range of employer/employee statutory rights and responsibilities under Employment Law Organisational procedures for Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity training The role played by their own occupation within their organisation and industry Different career pathways available to them in their industry The types of representative bodies relevant to their skill, trade or occupation, and their main roles and responsibilities Their organisation’s principles and codes of practice Issues of public concern that affect their organisation and industry

Functional Skills / Key Skills
Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
As a minimum an Intermediate Apprentice (Level 2) must achieve Functional Skills in English and Mathematics at Level 1 and; similarly Advanced Apprentices (Level 3) must achieve Functional Skills in English and Mathematics at Level 2. Some apprenticeships also require completion of an ICT Functional Skill/Key Skill.
Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeships must specify the standards of attainment an apprentice must achieve as set out in the PLTS national outcomes. To achieve the 6 PLTS apprentices must demonstrate the following skills:
Key Skills are currently running alongside Functional Skills, but will only be accepted within the SASE Apprenticeship frameworks until the 30th September 2012. From October 2012 Functional Skills will fully replace Key Skills within the English frameworks.

Each published framework will specify where achievement of the PLTS is located and how achievement must be evidenced.

Centre Training and Support We offer a range of standardised and bespoke face-to-face training days to support the delivery, assessment and internal verification of our Apprenticeship packages. Our training days cover the following areas; (topics can be adapted for bespoke training solutions): • Qualification and assessment structure • Programme delivery best practice • Internal verification guidelines • Standardisation activity We also offer e-clinics whereby individuals can book onto our 1-2 hour guidance sessions. You’ll need access to the Internet to enter our e-clinics, and these are a valuable tool if you are wishing to increase or refresh your knowledge in a certain area. Once you have entered one of our e-clinics you’ll be able to see and hear the presenter on your screen, and communicate with them using your keyboard. This is a fun, effective way of improving your knowledge and our e-clinics cover the following areas; (topics can be adapted for bespoke training solutions) • Assessment best practice • Internal Verification best practice • Active IQ administration procedures • Specific qualification training
Apprenticeship Tutor and Learner Resources Active IQ continually strives to achieve the highest standards in its resource provision. We have a dedicated Qualification Development team, whose sole focus is to produce materials, using a variety of learning mediums, to best meet identified industry requirements and customer demand. The quality of these resources facilitates exceptional apprenticeship delivery and ease of student learning.

Online learning Learner manuals
Active IQ works in partnership with Active IQ Academy who specialise in creating eLearning for qualification delivery and learner support. The Academy’s eLearning helps training providers and employers to offer a blended learning delivery to reach more learners and potentially reduce delivery costs. The Academy has an unrivalled breadth of eLearning with apprenticeship resources for Instructing Exercise and Fitness, Personal Training, Activity Leadership, Leisure Operations, Leisure Management and Customer Service. The eLearning library also contains resources for Employee Rights and Responsibilities and Key Skills, while Functional Skills and Business & Administration is in development right now. PTLLS, assessor and IV/IQA training courses are also online to support your delivery team.
A full suite of learner workbooks, learner achievement portfolios (LAPs) and manuals are available for all AIQ Apprenticeships. These resources have been produced to exacting standards in terms of both content and presentation. All manuals and workbooks are in full colour and have been thoughtfully designed to ensure that your learners engage effectively with their learning. Our LAPs provide standardised assessment paperwork for each unit of our qualifications to ensure a high quality, consistent approach to assessment at all times.
Tutor/Assessor and Internal Verifier Resources •
We have developed a comprehensive range of lecture packs for approved Active IQ centres to purchase to assist tutors with the delivery of the knowledge and ERR components of an Apprenticeship. Our lecture packs are OFSTED compliant including scheme of work, session lesson plans and PowerPoint lectures.

We provide Qualification Guidance for all AIQ qualifications within each apprenticeship, giving tutors, assessors and internal verifiers detailed guidance and support for the delivery and assessment of the qualification, inclusive of sample answers for all worksheets.

A full range of sample multiple choice question (MCQ) papers and marking guides are available to centres for all AIQ qualifications that contain MCQs.

Apprenticeship E-Portfolios Active IQ works in partnership with SkillWise who specialise in creating e-portfolios to support Apprenticeship frameworks. The unique software solution utilises VQManager® - SkillWise’s flagship software application that’s pushing the boundaries of the e-portfolio industry. The online resource supports learners to achieve their AIQ Apprenticeships via an e-portfolio that acts as a digital archive, allowing information/learner evidence to be stored with efficiency and ease. The system contains a pre-mapped checklist of objectives for apprentices to complete. Every apprentice can log work or evidence onto their own e-portfolio, which can then be compared and assessed against the master, pre-mapped checklist, allowing learners to monitor their own progress. The software also provides assessors and the internal quality assurance team with instant access to the apprentice’s work via remote access. One of the most obvious benefits of the e-portfolio is the comparative efficiency of the system in relation to traditional paper-based methods. Instead of having to maintain an ever-growing paper trail of evidence and documentation, everything is neatly organised in the digital archive, and available at the click of a mouse. Through recent benchmarking with Active IQ customers we estimate that by using out bespoke, pre-mapped e-portfolio allows assessors and internal verifiers to increase their productivity by up to 25%, which itself translates to a significant cost saving measure. “The e-portfolios have been a fantastic innovation for the centre, really improving the resources that we are able to offer to our learners.
