The Primary Leadership Academies will provide high quality support, training and development for primary age pupils. The academies will train pupils in year 5 & 6 to become Bronze Young Ambassadors and develop and grow young people as leaders and volunteers. Bronze Young Ambassadors will operate in their own school as ambassadors and role models advocating PE and school sport. They will be the young people’s voice on PE and school sport in their school and work to increase participation and healthy active lifestyles. The Primary Leadership Academies will be delivered by Platinum and Gold Young Ambassadors with support from the LCV School and School Games Organisers.

The Young Ambassador Conference is aimed at outstanding sports leaders who you consider have the ability to become Young Ambassadors. Young Ambassadors take a leading role at the Dorset School Games Level 3 Finals and also form a vital link between the students and adults in their schools. We would like to invite two of your current outstanding sports leaders to attend the Young Ambassador Conference and be trained as Silver Young Ambassadors. Workshops will be delivered by Steve Brown (Team GB Wheelchair Rugby Captain), selected Gold and Platinum Young Ambassadors and SGOs. The Dorset Leadership Academies are designed to provide high quality support and development for young leaders and volunteers. At the Leadership Academy year 7 & 8 students will complete a Young Leaders workshop including Teaching Values through Leadership. Year 10 students will be trained as School Games Makers for media volunteer roles at the School Games Finals. There will also be an Inclusive Leadership workshop making sport inclusive for all for Year 9 or 10 with an afternoon session of Sitting Volleyball Young Officials Training. Two dance students from Year 7, 8 or 9 will be part of the Big Dance Team who will work with a dance instructor to prepare a dance for the opening ceremony of the Winter School Games Final. One student aged 14-19 may complete the Youth Sport Trust Young Club Manager course. The purpose of this event is to further develop leadership skills in young leaders and inspire them to volunteer in sport to work with disabled and non-disabled participants. The sessions will be led by the Victoria School, who are the Dorset Project Ability School. The aim will be to develop the communication and organisation skills of the young leaders to improve their ability to lead in sport, whilst raising awareness of the opportunities available to them. Following this event there will be an opportunity to lead disability sports at the Dorset School Games Final at Bryanston School in the summer. The Leadership Academy will focus on training sports leaders through NGB leadership qualifications. The training provided on this day will equip these young volunteers with the tools they need to be able to deliver Level 1 and Level 2 School Games competitions in their own schools and local areas. The Leadership Academy will also incorporate the Level 3 Young Volunteers Training in a similar format to the Bryanston Leadership Academy.
