We all celebrate the holidays a little differently, but no matter your traditions, it’s always a time of gratitude, demonstrative appreciation and support. These two nationally recognized days further inspire generosity, and the Beaverton Downtown Association is excited to announce ways that people can participate in the local community.
Small Business Saturday
Most people know that supporting small business is vital to the health of our local economy, but it can still be tempting to do your holiday shopping at a big box store that’s a one-stop shop. Small Business Saturday always falls the day after Black Friday and seeks to inspire people to buy from smaller, familyrun businesses. “There’s such a disparity between the big corporations and our small businesses,” says BDA Chair Kirsten Agard. “Shopping locally is a great way to ensure revenue feeds back into our community.”
This year, visit Downtown Beaverton on Saturday, Nov. 30 and enjoy a full day of perusing local shops, coffee shops, breweries, restaurants and more! Among the hidden gems are Clover + Hooch, a charming gift shop offering plants and kombucha, and Forager Vintage and Crystal Heart
Books. Shoppers can grab a bite and a beverage at one of the many delicious dining options, including Lionheart Coffee Company, Binary Brewing, Carina’s Bakery and Lazy Days Brewing. In addition, Wu Wei Wellness, a holistic Eastern medicine clinic, recently remodeled and is inviting visitors to check out their new space.
Giving Tuesday
As we buy gifts for our friends and loved ones, we are reminded that no matter our daily trials and tribulations, we have so much to be thankful for. Giving Tuesday will be recognized this year on Tuesday, Dec. 3, and it’s the perfect time to harness the collective power of generosity by donating to local nonprofits, businesses, global causes or any initiative near and dear to your heart.
As a nonprofit organization, the BDA is leading fundraising efforts through a capital campaign highlighting businesses and preserving local history. “In the past, we’ve allowed it to be organic, but this

time around we’re making a concerted effort to bring everyone together,” Kirsten explains. That includes featuring a collection of small businesses in Downtown Beaverton offering special deals and activities for the day. In the interest of preserving historic properties in the area, funds raised will go towards a mural on the back of the Rossi building on Southwest Broadway, built in 1916. Maintaining the cultural heritage of the historic district is an ongoing initiative.

It is called the Bilateral Nasal Specific Treatment from my teacher Dr. Stober, at the University of Western States in Portland. And all I could say then, and even now, was, “WOW!”
After that first treatment, I was able to breathe so much better through my nose. And my headaches? It felt like a knife was taken out of my head. Even my vision improved from needing glasses to not needing glasses. At age 26, you learn to put up with a lot, but I was at the end of my rope, desperate, in spite of being a competitive athlete pitching in the semi-professional Portland City League. Once I had that adjustment, the lights went on for me and I knew at that moment I wanted to learn this special technique.
