Popular caterer opens brick-and-mortar

Wilsonville has a great selection of dining options, but something’s been missing, and Norton’s Family Café & Catering Company has arrived to stir up the scene.

Open since October 2023, this hidden gem on the north side serves scratch-made breakfast and lunch, plus runs a full-service, open-menu catering business with a commitment to excellence.

Norton’s has been catering since 2017 — under a different name. When owner Alison Norton was diagnosed with cancer in 2015, she realized life was too short not to go for her dreams. A bartender by trade, she taught herself how to bake cakes and built the catering company from the ground up. After moving to the current location, she and her family decided to open a café. Alison says, “We thought why not open our doors and serve food and cocktails, too?” Vacant since 2007, the space beckoned the family to breathe new life into it. They created a comfy little nook, decorating with family items like personal artwork, Alison’s mom’s first driver’s license and Alison’s first ballet shoes. Her mom, brother and cousin are part of the team.

The café’s menu offers a selection of classic breakfast and lunch items, all homemade with fresh ingredients. Breakfast includes eggs

and pancakes, scrambles with combinations of meat, cheese and vegetables, and breakfast burritos that can also be served as bowls. The biscuits and gravy remain a customer favorite. Pair your meal with a Bloody Mary or mimosa. Other drinks include specialty coffees, cocktails, beer, cider, wine and more.

Available all day, lunch offers sandwiches, soups and salads. The popular clubhouse is stacked high with fresh cold cuts, and the potato salad tastes just like your mother makes it. “People rave about the salads; Mom makes our potato salad, pasta salad and coleslaw from scratch,” Alison says. Daily specials are available depending on catering events. Norton’s also makes plenty of gluten-free and vegan items and is happy to accommodate any dietary restriction.

Catering events are a huge part of Norton’s, providing full service with servers and bartenders for events of any size. Alison enjoys accommodating special requests, and if she needs to learn how to do something, she will research and teach herself. “For one wedding, the groom’s mother requested the buffet table be filled with all his favorite foods, none of which are on our menu,” she says. “But she taught me to make some of the dishes, and he loved it!”

Catering options range from barbecue to an elegant openair paella Alison cooks fresh for guests as they watch. Wedding season is a hectic time for Norton’s, but Alison is skilled at accommodating as many events as possible. For some events, a couple of days’ notice is all that’s needed. Norton’s collaborates with Wilsonville High School, allowing students to work for a term to gain job experience. Alison loves being part of the Wilsonville community and getting to know her regular customers. “Everyone is super supportive and excited about what we’re doing, and that’s nice to see.”

Family-friendly dining just a short drive from Canby

Unique! Phenomenal! That’s Langdon’s Grill. This familyfriendly restaurant is situated within the beautiful 175acre golf course of Langdon Farms. Located just south of Wilsonville, the rural farm-themed setting is a rare find so close to a major metropolitan area. The restaurant features made-to-order American-style cuisine reminiscent of some of your favorite home-cooked meals. Offering a full-service bar and amazing views from both the patio and the dining area, Langdon’s Grill presents a culinary experience like no other.

Sitting on a property that was once a working farm, you can’t miss the Red Barn Clubhouse, which is home to Langdon’s Grill, Bar and Restaurant. The inside seating area is host to a wall of windows which overlook the 18th fairway and a lovely man-made lake. One of the property’s original existing barns can also be seen from the restaurant. In addition to the steady clientele of golfers,

dine-in customers come from miles around to enjoy quality casual dining and the country atmosphere offered at Langdon’s Grill. As spring approaches, and in particular when everything is in bloom, General Manager David Stead notes that “you’ll really be looking over a beautiful space, and it’s much more quaint and quiet than other local-area restaurants.” Unlike the familiar business park setting which often sits on a busy main street, Langdon’s Grill is a venue set inside a peaceful and serene golf course. “That’s what sets us apart,” expresses David. “That’s what makes us unique.”

As for the restaurant fare itself, Langdon’s Grill has dedicated many years to developing and promoting its quality casual dining. The chef, Pancho, is a 20-year veteran of Langdon Farms who learned his trade “on the job.” His knowledge and

experience complement the venue’s style perfectly. Sharing his expertise with the cook staff, they serve up such favorites as Langdon’s Grill’s phenomenal California Chicken Sandwich, the Friday Special Prime Rib Steak, Prime Rib Dips, and Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches, as well as Langdon’s Grill’s own Cajun Chicken Mac-and-Cheese. Surprisingly, the most popular dish is the Teriyaki Plate. Patrons see it coming from the kitchen and can’t help but remark how delicious it looks. In addition, a wide variety of “deliciousness” is included throughout the breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus. The full breakfast menu is available Saturdays and Sundays, and a Happy Hour menu is offered seven days a week. Friday and Saturday evenings also have live jazz added to the menu.

The qualities of a venue such as Langdon’s Grill are sure to foster a

unique company culture. “Down home, fun, loose but respectful,” are all accolades David Stead attributes to the Langdon’s Grill culture. “We treat you like you’re a part of our family, welcome you into our home with a smile, and call you by name whenever possible.” This culture extends into the community as Langdon Farms Golf Club hosts numerous private events

and fundraisers, and in turn, Langdon’s Grill provides all the catering for these special events. Actively supporting around 150 charity-related golf events each year, General Manager David Stead relates, “charity is certainly a core aspect of what we do here.” Only minutes from home, come and experience Langdon’s Grill’s beautiful and unique farmthemed setting in the midst of this spectacular rural property. “We want you to feel like you’re dining at home on your family farm,” says David, “only we’ll do all the work.”
