A lot of tattooers will tell you that Steve Soto is a virtuoso when it comes to the ink slinging of black and gray tattooing. Head of Goodfellas Tattoo Shop located in Orange California, he is a man full of wisdom and skill, who’s sincerity and passion for the art is felt immediately when one converses with him. What makes Steve Soto one of the top artists around? It can be a lot of things; practice, passion, dedication and talent. It can be his understanding of the mind of the person that steps into the shop, looking for his aid to bring to life the masterpiece they have created in their minds. Whatever it is, he possesses them and has shared and continues to share his art all over the world. For sixteen years Steve has been dancing the waltz with the tattoo machine. “I always knew I would do something with art.” “I fell into tattooing but it’s as if I was preparing for it all this time.”
WCLS Magazine : THE REBIRTH
- Steve Soto. Like a lot of artists sitting through school is torture because one would rather be embracing and practicing the creative and artistic side. Being confined to a small desk and lectures is soul destroying. “There’s nothing like putting pencil to paper, technology it just doesn’t feel right for me,” says Steve. Getting the chance to travel the world and tattoo people from around the world is truly remarkable. Traveling from: Israel, Russia, Australia, Canada, Europe, Brazil, Peru and more to come like Japan and Korea. It’s for the feel of the rich tattoo culture that the world has to offer. That’s what keeps Steve going and embracing the art that has shaped him to become a virtuoso in his craft. “Sometimes clients walk in with with what almost seems wacky ideas, but it’s a thrill digging into their brain and pulling out the masterpiece

they have painted in their minds and putting it on pencil and paper.” It’s a collaboration between client and artist and there’s no better feeling that given the freedom to do what you love. “The reaction the client gets when they see what I drew makes it worth it,” says Steve. Creating art is truly a blessing and there’s no better feeling in the world than waking up knowing you get to do what you love. “Not only does it make me happy but it sustains me from the business side of it.” Steve Soto stands tall and humbly in the industry of tattooing, from having people from around the world to celebrity tattooers come to Goodfellas Tattoo Shop. “It’s a blessing.” Repeats Steve, but who can blame him we all want to do what we love for a living and not see it as a career but as a passion that keeps us going each and every day.

Horacio Romero Jr. was born 10 min. away in East Los Angeles, Ca. on August 20th, 1969. I’m the eldest of 4 with 2 step siblings. Born to Maria Lourdes Montanez & Horacio Romero. My mom was from Durango, Mexico & managed to get to Tijuana, Mexico where she worked for years as a clerk & met my father who was from Chihuahua, Mexico but also wound up in Tijuana with the American Dream. The struggle was real watching both my mom & dad work hard as the years went on. They divorced when I was 11 but remained in contact till his death in 2008. My mom would follow 5 years later. I didn’t know it then but the way they respected each other and others would lead me to who I am and what WE at Chingon The Magazine are about.
A YOUNG ENTREPRENUER PHOTOS: DANIEL WHITNEY
Andre Darville, a young entrepreneur that began consulting for companies on social media since 18 years old. Andre continued to grow his company and now created Social Media Pro, which consults from multiple companies, such as Empire Auto Tech, 1st Nationwide Real Estate, XiX Wheels, Wellness Made Clear and more. Andre’s goal was to create a marketing company that would help small businesses grow and compete with the major cooperation’s, to give owners a chance. Andre has also co-created an Exotic Rental Company called Driv3, this is quickly becoming one of the Top Rental Companies in Los Angeles, Ca.
Andre has set his mind to being successful and continuously works to achieve his goals, some of his future plans consist of expanding to different states, helping small business all around the USA. When we asked Andre, “What gave him the motivation to pursue creating his own business?” he said, faith that God’s got his back in everything he does, support from the people around him, and knowing the only way to be successful and conquer your greatest fears, is to go out there and face it. We all have greatness inside of us, it’s the courage to be great.
Chingon The Magazine was created to fill in a void that was necessary to fill. At the time the only way you would know anything about the underground was through word of mouth & you had to know somebody involved in the scenes to gain access at times. CTM had access to the LOWRIDING scene, PITBULL and BULLY scenes, GRAFFITI art scene, TATTOOS and artists & knew that all 4 were connected to each other in more ways than 1. We came up with the concept of combining them together years ago when we 1st came out. The idea has ran rapid throughout the communities and is used as a standard
now. The other reason was that there was no correct representation of most of the LOWRIDING, Graff Art or other events in Southern Cal. The only way to know what was going on in Los Angeles, Harbor Areas, Riverside, Anaheim, San Fernando, Ontario, San Diego, Tijuana & Mexicali was to ask somebody that knew somebody that knew somebody. The only representation on LOWRIDING were the big shows where all the Trailer Queens came out once maybe twice a year for the people to enjoy in certain magazine(s). I grew up on a certain magazine were all I saw was chrome & the same car clubs over & over again. As I got older I found out there were way more car clubs & the LIFESTYLE was serious to most that I encountered. The plans for CTM are to become the go to source for underground events & all & anything LOWRIDING in Southern California. We’d like to interview all the pioneers, legends & showcase our LIFESTYLES correctly with all the hard work & dedication that comes with it. We hope to be the voice for the LOWRIDERS that meet up every weekend throughout So Cal & Mexico & never get noticed. We hope to keep capturing our LIFESTYLES as they happen whether it be behind the wheel, art brush, spray can or Tattoos? CTM will be there capturing the moment & making Southern Cal proud.

IT’S A SHOP WHERE EVERYONE COMES AND LEARNS FROM ONE ANOTHER AND SHARE A COMMON PASSION, ART. THE HUMBLENESS AND UPLIFTING VIBE IS IMMEDIATELY FELT WHEN ONE STEPS INTO THE SHOP. IT’S A WORLD WITHIN ITSELF. “HOMEMADE” MACHINE CAME UP A LOT WHILE CONVERSING WITH THE HEAVY HITTERS OF LIVING DREAMS, THE PASSION IS THERE AND MOTIVATION IS CONSTANTLY BEING FED. IT’S A LOOP WHERE EVERYBODY LEARNS EVERYBODY HAS A REASON TO KEEP MOTIVATED. “LEARNING IS A CONSTANT THING HERE, LEAVE PRIDE BEHIND AND BE OPEN TO LEARN THERE’S YOUNG AND OLDER ARTISTS THAT EACH OF THEM HAVE SOMETHING THAT THEY CAN TEACH EACH OTHER,” SAYS

BIGGAME JAMES ONE AMONGST A GROUP OF TALENTED ARTISTS THAT LIVE THERE. From OcotlOn Jalisco to California Rose Tattoo Gallery Writer/ Martin Arambula Photography/ Kyroflix Born in Ocotlán Jalisco shares with us his story and how he fell in love with the art of tattooing. In his own words: I got into tattooing after I got my first tattoo. Growing up I was always into drawing and making comic books. Every time I had the opportunity to take an art class, I did. So when I got my first tattoo I realized I can make a living drawing on people. And that’s when I started my journey to become a tattoo artist. When people ask, I say about nine years. I started an apprenticeship September 2008 that only lasted until December of that same year . I was only there for a couple months. I learned how to break down and set up a tattoo station and I brushed up on my mopping and cleaning skills. I wasn’t able to complete my apprenticeship due to the
fact that I became a single father. I did not have the luxury or the time to finish . And just in that short time I got a glimpse into the shop life and became immersed into the tattoo world. So I kept at it. I quit my day job and got into a shop in 2009 and haven’t looked back ever since. When I first started tattooing I would’ve told you my forte was black and gray. Now in days I try to be well-rounded in all areas. A perfect day for me would be a cool traditional piece, some script, a sweet color rose and maybe a portrait to end off the day. a hard question to answer would be if I have a favorite piece I’ve done, Over the last nine years I’ve done so many cool pieces , it’s really hard to pick just one. Acknowledging that I just created something out of nothing. I get a high out of finishing a technical tattoo or when I oil
paint. I also hope that my work can inspire others and keeps the art flame lit for other generations. The saying is true, when you do what you love, you will never work another day in your life. Plain and simple, tattooing is my life. That’s what keeps me motivated. Anything that keeps me inspired or motivated. I love being challenged. I just want to do cool tattoos. I actually just opened up my own tattoo shop in Anaheim,CA. California Rose Tattoo Gallery. If anyone is looking to get tattooed let me tell you, It’s going to be on you for the rest of your life. Make sure you do your homework (artist portfolios/Instagram) and go to someone that does what you are looking for.
