A Note From the Artistic Director, Daniel C. Levine No Day But Today. I can’t think of a better musical to close out our current season than Jonathan Larson’s RENT. The show ran on Broadway for twelve years and became one of Broadway’s longest running musicals and an international phenomenon (winning the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award). RENT was truly revolutionary in the theater world, inspiring a cult-like following of self-proclaimed “RENT-heads” - a term initially used to describe the groups of fans who gathered in front of Broadway’s Nederlander Theater before each performance, hoping to claim the coveted first-come, first-serve “rush tickets”. This ticketing model was first introduced by RENT and is now standard Broadway practice. Jonathan Larson looked to Puccini’s 1896 opera LA BOHEME as inspiration for the show. He believed that there were significant parallels between Puccini’s “Bohemian characters” and the “artists of today”, replacing 19th century Paris with 20th century East Village, tuberculosis with AIDS, and poets with rock guitarists. Of course, RENT explores subject matter specific to the 1990’s, but it is hard not to see the similarities in today’s world. While in rehearsals for our production of RENT, I was reminded that the show’s message remains incredibly relevant today. RENT is a timeless musical whose themes of love, loss, and the value of community bridge generational gaps, and the show emphasizes the importance of individuality, inclusion and acceptance. It reminds us all of the power of love, the value of compassion, and the importance of living for “no day but today”. As always, we thank you for supporting ACT of CT. We had a fantastic season of shows (with our SMOKEY JOE’S CAFE, NICKEL MINES, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR and today’s RENT) and we can’t wait to see you back next season (our 5th season!!!!) for GUYS AND DOLLS, ROCK OF AGES, and THE SECRET GARDEN. Have a great summer!

rights, health and livelihoods of all our Members; negotiating and enforcing employment agreements across a range of jurisdictions; facilitating the exchange of ideas, information and opportunities; and educating current and future generations about the critical role of directors and choreographers in leading the field. Music Theatre International (MTI) is one of the world’s leading theatrical licensing agencies, granting theatres from around the world the rights to perform the greatest selection of musicals from Broadway and beyond. Founded in 1952 by composer Frank Loesser, and orchestrator Don Walker, MTI is a driving force in advancing musical theatre as a vibrant and engaging art form. MTI works directly with the composers, lyricists and book writers of these musicals to provide official scripts, musical materials and dynamic theatrical resources to over 70,000 professional, community and school theatres in the US and in over 60 countries worldwide. MTI is particularly dedicated to educational theatre, and has created special collections to meet the needs of various types of performers and audiences. MTI’s Broadway Junior™ shows are 30- and 60-minute musicals for performance by elementary and middle school-aged performers, while MTI’s School Editions are musicals annotated for performance by high school students. www.mtishows. com ACT (A Contemporary Theatre) of Connecticut of Connecticut is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) professional theatre located in Ridgefield, CT. Founded in 2018 by Katie Diamond, Daniel C. Levine and Bryan Perri, and along with the more recent addition of R. Erin Craig, ACT of CT presents limited engagement runs of well-known musicals, as well as world-premiere productions by the next
generation of writers and composers. In addition to fully produced mainstage productions, ACT of CT’s programing also includes a New Works Series, a Broadway Unplugged Series, and an extensive theater education program. With its 182 seats and turntable stage, the theater offers an intimate, unique, and immersive theatrical experience for its patrons. Given the proximity to New York City, ACT of CT has access to top theatre talent and professionals. ACT of CT is dedicated to inspiring, creating and nurturing a culturally diverse and equitable environment for its staff, creative teams, cast, musicians, crew members and audiences, and is committed to achieving a diverse workforce and to maintain an inclusive and discrimination-free environment. RIDGEFIELD - Proud to be designated as Connecticut’s First Cultural District REDDING - Dubbed “the Vermont of Connecticut” — Approximately One Hour to Manhattan — MARK TWAIN’S LAST HOME “Stormfield” - the iconic mansion built in Redding for author Samuel Clemens, best known as Mark Twain, who lived there from 1908 until his death in 1910. Upon surveying the countryside from his new home, Clemens exclaimed “How beautiful it all is. I did not think it could be as beautiful as this.” After a fire in 1923, the current estate was re-built in 1925 on the same foundation, retaining the original terraces, stone walls, stone pillars, and formal gardens. The home is sited on 28.53 private acres and adjoins 161 acres of Redding Land Trust. Total 6,300 sf with 4-5 BR, 5/1 baths, and 3 fpls, plus detached pool/carriage house offering heated gunite pool, 3 garage bays, and 2nd floor guest/caretaker cottage with 2 BR, full bath, LR and kitchen. A rare opportunity to own a piece of American history, just 58 miles to Midtown. $3,900,000
VIEWS to LONG ISLAND SOUND & 14 ACRES Feel like you're at the edge of the world, right here in Redding, "the jewel at the heart of Fairfield County," with unobstructed panoramic vistas south to Long Island Sound. This breathtaking country retreat is set on 14.15 pastoral acres, w/ potential to subdivide. First time on the market, the land has been held by one family for over 75 years, & the home was custom built by the original owner who took extreme pride in both the craftsmanship and one of a kind private setting. This sprawling cape offers 2,957 sf, 3 bedrooms & 2 baths, including the main level primary suite w/updated Carrera marble bath, plus expansive walk-out lower level with potential to finish an additional 1,759 sf.
