Level 3 Diploma in Perioperative support
from Perioperative Support Level 3
by ACT
This is the main qualification that will be completed using evidence from your workplace.
Length of time to complete
We will tailor your learning programmes to suit your needs, so that each learner’s experience is unique. While learner’s needs will be different, the recommended time to complete this programme is 18 months.
Course Delivery
This programme will primarily be delivered through 1-to-1 sessions with a member of the ACT delivery team, using a mixture of face-to-face and remote learning sessions. An ACT assessor will meet with the learner, either in the workplace or through digital means (for example, Microsoft Teams) once a month for approximately two hours to support progress.

Learners will also be set tasks to complete between each visit, for approximately 4hours per month (please note – this is just a guide and will vary based on learner needs).
Examples of some of the tasks that might be set by our assessors include:
• Answering questions in relation to your workplace/role, such as your understand of how to comply with policies and procedures surrounding information within a health environment. Answers can be recorded verbally or be written/typed.
• Gathering of work-based evidence to demonstrate the recommended recording of your Continuous Professional Development
What you will learn
This programme is made up of a mixture of mandatory units (these have to be completed by all learners as part of the qualification) and optional units (we will work with you to decide what units are relevant to your role, and your business). A brief overview of these units is below.
Mandatory Units - This is a set unit qualification
• The role of a HSCW
• Maintaining Quality Standards in the health sector
• Minimise infection in a Healthcare setting
• Principals of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
• Service improvement in the health sector
• Measure and record individuals body fluid balance in a perioperative environment
• Receive, handle and dispatch clinical specimens within the sterile field
• Provide support to the surgical team when preparing individuals for operative and invasive procedures
• Perform the circulation role for perioperative procedures
• Healthcare professional practice
• Engage in personal development
• Person centred approach, Diversity and Equality and inclusive practice
• Promote and implement HS practices in health care support
• Support the transport, transfer and portioning of individuals and equipment within the perioperative environment
• Contribute to safe use and documentation of instrumentation and equipment used in a surgery procedure
• Assist in the delivery of perioperative care and support to individuals
• Assis in the preparation of the Anaesthesia environment and provide support for pre and post-operative Anaesthesia and recovery
