ANTIGUA, GUATEMALA – Around the globe Actuality Media is pushing the creation of positive media: stories of real change in Thailand and successful good in Latin America. The year 2012 began with the very first Actuality Media Outreach to take place in Asia. Based out of the northern city of Chiang Mai, two student film crews from Australia worked tirelessly for one month to research, write, shoot and edit their documentaries. One – “Kon Chai Moon” – deals with a Shan refugee from Burma who struggles with adapting to his home in Thailand while keeping a grasp on his heritage, the second short documentary – “Our Daughters For Sale” – looks at a new approach to counter sex-trafficking among the far-flung hill tribes of northern Thailand. The changemakers featured in these films and every short documentary produced by Actuality Media are selected for the good they are doing in the world, and their ideas that matter, that can be spread across the globe. The search for more worthy changemakers is always on, and recently took Actuality Media staff scouting across India, from Calcutta to New Delhi, and back. The team was in search of a location for Actuality Media's new push for positive media, a term-length Semester Residency this fall. Without pause, the staff was immediately off to a meeting at Ashoka's Mexico City office and then on to Guatemala to conduct a special Spring Break film project while continuing preparations for three more outreaches in Central America this summer. With the special project, editing was left to be completed in Miami, with the completed films – and titles – forthcoming. “Our Daughters For Sale,” “Kon Chai Moon,” and every short documentary produced by Actuality Media are online at https://vimeo.com/actualitymedia/videos. Photography from behind the scenes of every outreach is available at https://picasaweb.google.com/117554919381767091581. Actuality Media is a social enterprise that creates positive media. Actuality Media outreaches take top students to developing countries to produce short documentaries and other media for changemakers working to solve chronic social problems.
