The Empty Fridge Project The Empty Fridge Project is an idea directed towards helping prevent the growth of childhood hunger in the United States. As of 2010, 16.7 million children lived in food insecure homes. Over 20% of the child population in 36 states live in food insecure homes. Change MUST happen. The objective of The Empty Fridge Project is to place hundreds of empty fridges in U.S. cities across the country to raise awareness and funds for childhood hunger. Information on the statistics of childhood hunger as well as insturctions on how to donate will be provided at the empty fridge sites. Procedes will then go to communities who need funding and instruction on setting up their own local food programs. Focus will be mainly upon rural communities. This is due to the lack of ability or knowledge on how to set up programs targeted toward children. While certain government programs exist, such as free and reduced lunches, they are not enough to end the hunger and hurt. Children spend only 17% of their lives from the age of 5-18 in school. Take action in your community today.
