PLANNING STUDENT LEARNING

WELCOME TO THE

TWIN CITIES COFFMAN UNION ANNIVERSARY FUN FACTS ABOUT COFFMAN UNION Built in 1940, it was originally designed for a student body of 14,000. The brass line-art and the terrazzo in the Coffman Auditorium are original to the initial construction of Coffman in 1940. The Second Floor of the building is dedicated to student organizations and cultural centers, providing office space for 12 different cultural centers. The 400-seat theater is one of the more prominent features of the building, offering free films every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, including recent releases.

With 40 million annual visitors, Mall of America is America’s most visited mall, according to Travel & Leisure. There are more than 4.3 miles of total storefront footage. Minnesota wasn’t named the Land of 10,000 Lakes for nothing. You’ll find 13.3 miles of pathways that encircle the Chain of Lakes in Minneapolis, including Lake of the Isles, Lake Calhoun, and Lake Harriet. With an encyclopedia collection of work that includes nearly 100,000 pieces spanning 5,000 years and several continents, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts is a must-stop spot. Each year, more than half a million visitors are inspired by the museum’s diverse array of art and displays.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS

THE

One out of every two Minnesotans, or approximately 3 million people, follow the Vikings each Sunday either on TV, radio, or in person at the stadium. Over the last several years, the Vikings have donated more than $500,000 annually to charitable organizations, as well as thousands of autographed items. ACUI Region Newsletter | SpecialSports Edition Facilities 2015 7 The Minnesota Vikings andV the Minnesota Authority have partnered with Sports & The Arts to source and acquire art, graphics and photographs for the new stadium set to open in July 2016.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER Friday 12:30 p.m.

Tim Mousseau will present “Fewer Leaders, More Innovators: Cultivating a Culture of Innovation,” which realistically addresses the issues facing our college communities. Working to meet students where they are, he breaks through the conventional norms of leadership to help students understand what it means to be innovative and how to succeed in taking organizational risks. He received a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Gonzaga in 2013, but is a Lobo at heart, having graduated from University of New Mexico in 2011. Mousseau is a published author, contributing to five periodicals on topics ranging from mentoring to creativity to happiness in relationships. For the past few years, he has spent time researching how innovation relates to leadership and the power of curiosity in creativity. In the past he has worked for his fraternity, Sigma Chi, as well as working with close to 175 campuses throughout the National Interfraternity Conference. Outside of being a professional speaker, Mousseau is a writer, traveler, innovator, and an artist, having designed all 22 of his tattoos based off of significant life experiences.

SERVICE PROJECT Be the Match

Service is an important part of what we do and who we are. As we take time out of our routines to make connections with each other, we want to make sure we connect in a meaningful way with the world around us as well. This year, we are working with the Be the Match Registry. We’ll be doing a kit labeling project from 2-3:30 p.m. on Friday. Our group will prepare kits for donors to supply a cheek swab, which adds their tissue type to the donor registry. Our work will be beneficial to Be The Match because their staff will already have materials on hand to quickly respond to donors and get them on the registry as fast as possible.

Be The Match Registry® (11 million total)

Every 4 minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer like leukemia. For thousands of these and other patients with diseases like sickle cell anemia, a marrow transplant is the only life-saving treatment. Most don’t have a matching marrow donor in their family. They turn to Be The Match® for the largest, most diverse registry of potential marrow donors in the world. Yet many, especially patients with diverse ancestry, still can’t find a match.
