IPW Details Clinical Symposium 1 “Antibiotic Stewardship Program (ASP) in Hospital Setting and Multidisciplinary Team” Speaker: Mariyatul Qibtiyah, S.Si., SpFRS., Apt. (dr. Soetomo Hospital, Indonesia) Description: Antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASP) in hospitals seek to optimize antimicrobial prescribing in order to improve individual patient care as well as reduce hospital costs and slow the spread of antimicrobial resistance. With antimicrobial resistance on the rise worldwide and few new agents in development, antimicrobial stewardship programs are more important than ever in ensuring the continued efficacy of available antimicrobials. The design of antimicrobial management programs should be based on the best current understanding of the relationship between antimicrobial use and resistance. Such programs should be administered by multidisciplinary teams composed of infectious diseases physicians, clinical pharmacists, clinical microbiologists, and infection control practitioners and should be actively supported by hospital administrators. The purpose of this lecture is to explain the implementation ASP in Indonesia’s hospital, to explain the roles of the pharmacist is ASP, and know how to develop a multidisciplinary team in ASP.
IPW Details Clinical Symposium 2 “Application of Natural Killer Cells for Cancer Treatment Speaker: Dr. dr. Cosphiadi Irawan, SpPD-KHOM. (dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National Central General Hospital) Description: Natural killer (NK) cells recognize targets stressed by malignant transformation or infection and can be longlived. They become educated by interacting with major histocompatibility antigen (MHC) class I molecules to gain function to kill targets and produce cytokines. In the clinic, haploidentical NK cells can be adoptively transferred to treat cancer. The purposes of this lecture are to explain the basic research of NK cells and its implementation in cancer therapy.
IPW Details Clinical Symposium 3 “Pharmacist Specialization: An Advancement Towards Better Pharmacy Practice Speaker: Prof. Dr. Syed Azhar Syed Sulaiman, B.Pharm., Pharm.D. (Universiti Sains Malaysia) Description: Clinical pharmacists work directly with physicians, other health professionals, and patients to ensure that the medications prescribed for patients contribute to the best possible health outcomes. Clinical pharmacists practice in health care settings where they have frequent and regular interactions with physicians and other health professionals, contributing to better coordination of care. In these days, pharmacist specialist is one of the hot topic issues that clinical pharmacist talked about. The purposes of this symposium are to explain the implementation of 7-stars Pharmacist in pharmacist specialization, highlight the current issue of being pharmacist specialist, explain the development of pharmacist specialization, and identify future roles for pharmacist specialist in pharmacotherapy.
IPW Details Industrial Symposium 1 “Monoclonal Antibody in Migraine” Speaker: dr. Deliana Permatasari, MBA. (Chief Scientific Officer of PT. Novartis Indonesia) Description: Migraine is a very disabling disorder with severe impact on patients’ lives and substantive costs to society in terms of healthcare costs and lost productivity. Prevention is a key component of migraine therapy, and while numerous preventive options exist, each is burdened by either troublesome side effects or insufficient efficacy. All migraine preventives currently in clinical use were licensed for other purposes and, by chance, have efficacy against a migraine. As our understanding of a migraine has evolved, calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) has moved to the forefront as a neuropeptide central to migraine pathophysiology. The purpose of this lecture is to explain about monoclonal antibody as an alternative treatment for a migraine, understand the mechanism of a monoclonal antibody, and long-term prospect of this treatment.
IPW Details Industrial Symposium 2 “Recombinant DNA Technology as Potential Novel Cancer Treatment” Speaker: Dr. Normala Abd. Latip (Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia) Description: In the past century, the recombinant DNA technology was just an imagination that desirable characteristics can be improved in the living bodies by controlling the expressions of target genes. However, in the recent era, this field has demonstrated unique impacts in bringing advancement in human life. Scientists can mass-produce monoclonal antibodies that are specifically targeted to chemical components of cancer cells. Refinements to these methods, using recombinant DNA technology, have improved the effectiveness and decreased the side effects of these treatments. The purpose of this lecture is to explain the development of novel cancer therapy and to understand the mechanism of Recombinant DNA to treat cancer.
IPW Details Industrial Symposium 3 “The Advantage of Genetic Profiling to Reach Effective and Efficient Pharmacotherapy” Speaker: Ahmad Rusdan Handoyo Utomo, Ph.D. (Laboratory Consultant of Kalbe Genomics Laboratory) Description: Drug treatment is in many cases ineffective. Besides patients who do not respond to the treatment despite receiving expensive drugs, adverse drug reactions (ADRs) as a consequence of the treatment. Pharmacogenetics is the discipline which takes the patient’s genetic information of drug transporters, drug metabolizing enzymes, and drug receptors into account to allow for an individualized drug therapy leading to optimal choice and dose of the response of the drug by correlating gene expression or singlenucleotide polymorphisms with a drug’s efficacy or toxicity. The purpose of this lecture is to introduce pharmacogenetic treatment, to develop rational means to optimize drug therapy, with respect to the patient’s genotype, to ensure maximum efficacy with minimal adverse effects.
IPW Details Clinical Workshop “Off-Label Drugs Use Regulation and Their Application in Clinical Practice” Speaker: Dra. Yulia Trisna, Apt., M.Pharm. (dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National Central General Hospital) Description: Off-label drug use is the use of pharmaceutical drugs for an unapproved indication or in an unapproved age group, d o s a g e , o r r o u t e o f a d m i n i s t r a t i o n . F o r n o w, pharmaceutical and medical science have developed rather fast. There are so many drugs that have one/more indications, but, some indication of those drugs aren’t listed in BPOM/FDA. Off-label drug use can sometimes evoke negative connotations and may diminish public expectations, so as a one of medical staff, we should know more about the information, implementation, and safeness of the Off-label drugs use in hospital practice.
IPW Details Industrial Workshop 1 “Update PERKA Badan POM about Drug Registration in Indonesia” Speaker: Dra. Nurma Hidayati, Apt., M.Epid. (Board Deputy of Teurapetics and NAPZA Products Control, BPOM RI) Description: The progress of drug’s research and development is intensively being considered as the rapid technological growth. The pharmaceutical industry is a capital-intensive and knowledge-based industry that relies on innovation ability. In a quick technological change and evolving innovation, newly invented drugs will be found which has properties more effective than ever before. Discovering new drugs requires permission from the related agents in the country to be marketed. In Indonesia, the agency of Drugs and Food called BPOM (Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan). Along with that issue, the procedure to get the legal license of drugs especially in Indonesia which is not known clearly by the pharmacists became one of the obstacles in the drugs’ development. Therefore, the purposes of these workshops are to explain the procedures of drugs’ registration, to know about the marketing authorization of drugs and to know the basic document to registration drugs in Indonesia.
IPW Details Industrial Workshop 2 “Feasibility Study of Pharmaceutical Business Development Pathway in Indonesia” Speaker: Audrey Clarissa, S.Si., Apt. (Founder of PT. Imedco Djaja) Description: As time goes by, rapid economic growth sometimes has no impact on profitability. The most important aspect in getting the success of the business is to pull out the entire effort to get maximum profit in the result. One of the rapidly growing marketplace in Indonesia is in the medical field, especially medicine and medical devices. Considering a business opportunity in pharmacy is one of the responsibilities of a business developer. Therefore, the objective of these workshops is to explore pharmacists role in pharmacy business development in Indonesia, to deepen the knowledge of pharmacists role in Industry especially in developing pharmacy business and to be critical of pharmaceutical marketing and business issues.
