October 2015

This September we unveiled big changes to the University Ministry including a name, logo, and model change. The Assemblies of God University Ministries in Latin America has recently unified under one name, Red Universitaria (University Network), and to align ourselves we also changed our name to Red Univeristaria or RU (“roo). We poured weeks into the new logo and graphics. The logo represents a compass, indicating our desire to help college students find their direction in life, and the 3 points of the arrow represent the 3 components of our new vision statement- “cada estudiante, cada iglesia, cada universidad (every student, every church, every university). We also have divided our ministry into 2 components: RUiglesia and RUuniversidad (RUchurch and RUuniversity), and we will be launching and leading a “model campus on UCR. Along with all of these changes comes a new process and trainings, and we are very excited for it all! Since the unveiling we have received an excellent response from our students, leaders, and the national church.

Many of you know one of the communities that has been on our heart for several years is Los Cuadros- an impoverished part of San JosÊ know for its drugs and violence. It’s our desire to start a Community Health Evangelism (CHE) program there, but first we need to take the time to build relationships and develop trust within the community. To help us with that, earlier this year we started a club for students studying English in the high school called MAE (Mastering the American Experience- also a play-on a popular slang term here). It has been a lot of fun, and we’ve had up to 100 students show-up!

We just finished our 3rd training of CHE in Salitre, an indigenous reserve in the South of Costa Rica. It went very well, and the church is ready and excited to take the first steps launching a CHE program!
