In the eyes of many the traditional leader is a middle aged white male, who happens to also be very strict and not opening to change. Or on the field/court it’s the coach who is yelling and making the team run to they nearly pass out. Although this isn’t the leaders who we are trying to welcome in 2014, here are some examples of famous Traditional Leaders from the past. Bob Knight Bobby Knight was infamous for his on and off court antics. From choking players to throwing chairs on to the basketball court when a play didn’t go his way, the Hall of Fame coach although a winner, isn’t someone you would probably want coaching your kid for a full NCAA basketball season.

What is a leader?
Central Michigan University students around the Towers Computer Lounge were asked to take time to describe what they think a good leader is. Working in an office setting can be compared to running in a race – all eyes are on the prize and competition is at every turn. There are many different prizes that an office can uphold, but most people can agree that becoming the best at the job that you were trained to do is the best prize of all. But becoming the best requires many different things. The best thing for anybody to do is to become the type of leader that everybody is aware of. Becoming this type of leader will create a chance for you to put your company first while bettering yourself.
This kind leadership is called servant leadership. There are three important traits that can guarantee you to be noticed by your superior and respected by your coworkers.
BE EMPOWERED Empowerment comes from within, but shines through on the outside for everybody to see. To be an empowered servant leader means to be a team player, not the boss. While working with coworkers on a project, for example, the ability to help each individual in the team feel recognized
and valued will give you the type of empowerment a servant leader needs. Working as a team member means giving each individual their own value by accepting and trying all ideas. You are the innovator and the self-motivator. Empowerment in the work place is a sure way for your boss and all of your peers to gain confidence in your sense of empowerment which will lead to a more confident company.
10
PERFECTIBILITY IS KEY After you have created a confidence throughout your system of coworkers, the shared vision will start to look like close perfection, but do not be fooled. Perfection is the journey to the shared vision of a flawless system. As a servant leader, it is your job to keep the motivation that something great is coming by creating an empowered environment. Being the empowered innovator along with this new sense of perfectibility will show your superior as well as your coworkers that you have seen the bigger picture and are ready to work towards that.
HAVE A PURPOSE
will separate you from the rest and give you an advantage to that promotion. Leading with purpose means you know why you received your job and you know exactly how to maximize the potential you were hired for. Knowing your place is a very important thing to be aware of while working in an office and for you to be able to push your own limits and impress your superior is the final distinct trait to being a servant leader. Servant leaders are just innovators with their work boots on so when it comes for your time to shine remember to be an empowered, perfectible coach that works with a purpose and that promotion you have worked so hard for will be yours!
If you are getting exhausted of your office job and feel under-utilized the chances are so is the person in the cubical next to you. Having a purpose to your company plan and to yourself as an employee

Leadership With a Purpose Leadership In today’s world, we need strong leaders to help shape our society. Making a difference is becoming a common want for our generation and must be done with intent. President Barak Obama makes it a point to say that he wants to make a change in our country and our world relationships. But, not every leader gets to say they are the President of In 2006, a brand new idea of TOMS the United States. Some leaders shoes rose up and demanded to be have less popular titles, such as known. The team that has been business owners, or school working towards this phenomenal teachers, but this doesn’t mean there titles are any less important. business venture is led by the inventor of TOMS himself. Blake Mycoskie is not your average business man; he is a creative innovator who began a whole new way of “Making a Difference.” Blake started the idea of the “One for One Movement,” buy a pair of shoes; give a pair of shoes to a child in need. He has quickly made a difference all around the world.

But, he couldn’t have done this without his skilled team. He has successfully led a group of young interns to a achieve greatness through motivation and giving them all a sense of purpose. When asked, “How do you juggle your responsibilities as a leader?” Blake answered, “In terms of leadership, what I’ve found is you really do have to wear every hat before you can ask other people do it. So with TOMS Shoes, even though we’ve grown really fast, I have kind of worn every single hat along the way. I might’ve only worn it for a week or two. But at least when I hired that person or brought that person on, I’ve been able to say, “These are the challenges. These are the opportunities, and go after it.”
Blake perfectly fits into the category of what is referred to as a “servant leader.” He strives to create a work environment in which people can truly express their deepest inner drives. In his book, “Start Something that Matters,” he talks about helping those on his team thrive by letting them share their ideas and empowering them to help them thrive with along with the business. He also makes it clear in this book that he’s not looking for perfection; he expects failure and embraces it. He knows that he will just learn from it become a better leader and a team. Blake truly believes that people are the greatest asset and organization has. Without his team he would not be where he is today.
