02 About me
Aluminium Extrusion Design Competition, Highly Commended Norsk Hydro
I am an award winning multilingual designer with a passion for creating and visualizing innovative products. As a second year student, I have been able to develop a myriad of skills ranging from CAD and virtual product visualisation to sketching, graphic design, prototyping as well as technical skills such as material selection. As a social, creative and empathetic individual, my unique skillset has enabled me to solve many problems within group as well as individual design projects.

Hydro Reframed Brief
To design a flexible mounting system that can accommodate a wide variety of sectors and situations and be primarily manufactured using the aluminium extrusion process. Such a mounting system will be able to accommodate for a wide range of attachments that can be easily mounted and manipulated.

Adam ZakiPotential Users
A wide array of potential users exist for this product. These include but are not limited to surgeons and medical professionals, office workers, factory workers, auto mechanics, scientists and engineers as well as families.

Project
Research
Extensive primary and secondary research was conducted regarding the extrusion process, its limitations as well as material selection and existing products. This helped inform design decisions going forward.

Ideation and Development
The ideation process undertaken was iterative and saw the functionality and potential uses expand from being a flexible indoor lighting solution to something much more, where various attachments such as monitors, speaker units, surgical as well as scientific instruments etc. can be connected to a non-stationary gantry unit that can be moved along the length of the extruded track profile. Note that due to time constraints, only the light module was modelled.

In context renders provide insight into the real-world uses of the product. Displayed here are just a small sample of the possible uses of the track system.

Starpack Competition
Reframed Brief
Create an injection moulded packaging solution that will enable the user to cook and enjoy a healthy dinner from a variety of cuisines for family and friends.

Project type:
Date: Bronze Award
Design competition 3 1/2 weeks February 2022
Adam ZakiChosen Meal

The meal chosen is a Creamy Marsala Chicken recipe from delish.com combines a range of wet and dry ingredients, serves multiple people, and (if cooked correctly) is of a restaurant quality. The meal preperation kit will not be limited to this meal, other healthy meals from various cuisines will be available to accomodate a wide range of palettes and preferences.

Inspiration
The main inspiration for the final design was scale model kits (eg. Airfix, Tamiya, Revell) as trays full of components are injection moulded in one go and are kept with runners, sprues and gating in the box. This significantly reduces manufacturing time and cost and avoids having to create tooling for each individual part.

How to Use
• Gourmeal kits will be available in 2, 4 and 6 person kits
Top level of packaging

Double tubs to be removed from the frame by lifting then seperated by snappping in half
• Tubs are to be seperated from the main frame by multiple methods such as cutting off of gating and lifting and snapping multitubs.
• All tubs will have a thin, peelable, foodsafe bioplastic film covering them.
• The user will follow instructions found on the cardboard sleeve to cook the meal.

Pressing on the plastic will allow for the contents of spice containers to be released by ripping the protective film
Adam ZakiProject 02
Technical Information
• Cardstok is used for the cardboard sleeve

• Vegetable based inks and gelatin based adhesives are used for graphics

• Injection moulded plastic tubs, runners, sprues and gating will be made from Polyethylene Terraphalte. Grade: Arnite A02 307
• NATIVA ® BoPla biodegradable plastic film is used to cover each tub.

Potential Users Research

Users include cyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians, runners/athletes, hikers/ adventurers, climbers, cavers and many more. This large pool of potential users means that retail and marketing opportunities are immense and opens the possibility of sales in multiple countries, regions and continents.

Project 03
Ideation and Development
After establishing a reframed brief and market to explore, the ideation process began. The chosen design was then developed and evolved into the final solution seen on the far right.

Ideation and Development
The ideation, concept creation as well as development stages took around two weeks to complete and were carried out on a wallpaper roll. Ideation consisted of designing a range of kitchen equipment in the manner of Vespa which also closely followed the reframed brief after the long and tedious research stage of the project.

Project
Adam ZakiBathtub Toy Clockwork Toy Project Reframed Brief
To design a new educational, injection moulded wind up/clockwork bath toy using a predetermined mechanism whilst implementing elements of Lego Duplo.

Project type: Duration: Date:
Studio project 10 weeks January 2022
Adam Zaki05
Theme Selection
Ocean cleanup, deep sea exploration, sea aviation and search and rescue themes were chosen as they all have an educational element to them and have not been particuclarly explored by Duplo. They also have many potential interesting opportunities with duplo style elements and the mechanism installed.

User Research

Lego Duplo products are primarily aimed at users aged 1.5-5 years old which does mean that their products need to cater for the various needs of children at different development stages. To include slightly more complex themes as well as educational elements to the toy, a decision was made to narrow my target user down to 4 year old boys.

Project 05
Ideation and Development
To accomodate the educational as well as the nautical elements of the brief, the concept chosen is based on ocean waste collecting vessels and features a crew of two as well as floating ‘ocean waste’ for it to collect with the clockwork mechanism powered treadmill located at the front of the toy.

Prototyping

Extensive hours spent creating CAD models on Solidworks has allowed me to produce an initial prototype using 3D printing as well as silicone casting . This process helped gain a deeper understanding of aspects such as design for manufacture, tolerancing and prototyping.

User Journey
User is sitting and working for extended periods of time.

User stands up, shoe stops vibrating/colour pattern.
The Vibro Air Adapt will be wirelessly charged via a flexible, primarily silicone mat. This mat will be plugged into the wall. Haptic and visual feedback from the shoe as well as notifications from the app will allow the user to know when the shoes need charging.
The shoe can be charged while still being worn by the user. (Eg. can be charged while working at a desk).

06
Backlit E-Ink panels located on the front and the side ‘swoosh’ symbol pulse from white to black and vice versa to visually alert the user.
Custom light patterns can be set up on the app.
Having a bad posture can have dire consequences to the user’s health. The shoe will momitor the user’s posture via an array of internal sensors (force sensors, accelerometer, gyroscope sensor, temperature sensors) that will then relay information via bluetooth to the user’s phone or smartwatch.

Once the shoe has determined that you are maintaing a bad posture, the insole will mechanically stimulate your foot by changing shape. This can be stopped in-app.

App enables monitoring of data and statistics as well as customization and adjustments to notifications, lighting patterns, vibration and insole. The app also integrates Nike SNKRS (utilizes AR) into it which will enable the user to easily shop for more Nike shoes, cleaning kits, charging mats etc.
