Editorial Guidelines Victorian Dentist
Victorian Dentist is the flagship magazine for members of the Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch (ADAVB). Victorian Dentist is published 11 times per year (February – December). It is published on the ADAVB website and distributed both in print and via email in the first week of each month to approximately 3800 Victorian and Tasmanian dentists and dentistry students. All editions are archived and available to members on the ADAVB website.
General guidelines for submission of editorial 1. Request for editorial submissions must be made in writing to the Communications Manager at comms@adavb.org. 2. Editorial is only accepted if written and supplied by an ADAVB member, ADAVB/ADA affiliate or supplier or ADAVB corporate partner. 3. Editorial material will not be accepted for publication from organisations competing with ADAVB partners, in the Victorian Dentist or online. 4. Inclusion of diagrams, tables and photographs supplied with editorial is at the discretion of the Communications Manager and is dependent on space availability and deadlines. Low quality images will not be accepted. 5. Editorial must recognise the professional nature of the readership and must therefore be of a professional standard, well written and factually correct. 6. The Harvard referencing format is preferred for citing in-text references and footnotes should be used within the editorial. 7. Editorial or advertorial about products or services will not be accepted, unless through previous arrangement in a corporate partnership contract. 8. Placement and withdrawal of editorial is at the discretion of the Communications Manager and is dependent on space availability and deadlines.

9. All editorial is subject to editing by the Production Editor and Communications Manager. Edited submissions will not be returned to contributors for review or approval. Final approval for publication is by the Managing Editor - ADAVB Vice President. 10. Articles and inserts that request donations from members for publication and/or distribution in the Victorian Dentist are subject to approval by the CEO and Vice President. 11. Articles will not be accepted for publication if they are promoting the organisation concerned, recruitment of membership, and/or a forthcoming activity or event, unless the organisation is a related not-for-profit organisation or an approved ADA or ADAVB affiliate. Non-affiliate events may be promoted in the Victorian Dentist only through paid advertising. 12. Articles from affiliated organisations and related dental organisations that promote or report on programs, events or awards that would be interest to members, are encouraged. 13. The ADAVB reserves the right to withdraw editorial at any time. This includes any editorial accepted, placed and ready for print.
Editorial specifications • • • •
Editorial must be submitted in Word format via email. Faxed or hand-written editorial will not be accepted. PDF editorial will not be accepted. Generally, one full page editorial consists of approximately 600 words.
Submission deadlines • Requests are not guaranteed placement. • Requests for editorial contributions must be made as early as possible (e.g. two-three months before publication date) so that space can be allocated. • Editorial must be received by the first day of the month preceding publication, i.e. for the July issue, you will need to supply your editorial by 1 June.
Specifications for photos or other images Images must be in full colour (unless of a historical nature) and must be supplied in a high resolution (300 dpi) recognised desktop publishing format (e.g. PDF or jpeg).
