ALGINATE IMPRESSIONS AND STUDY MODELS A HANDS-ON COURSE FOR DENTAL ASSISTANTS

This course will equip dental assistants to work with dental practitioners in taking alginate impressions when directed in the clinical environment. It is aimed at providing dental assistants with additional knowledge and skills in the taking of preliminary alginate dental impressions to enable improved technique and clinical outcomes. The course provides lecture based information on materials properties and handling. This is followed by instruction in clinical technique and practical exercises with other participants in the course designed to enhance the ability to take predictable upper and lower alginate impressions for patients. In addition participants will learn about the requirements for construction of accurate diagnostic models and will undertake hands on laboratory exercises to ensure an understanding of pouring up alginate impressions. Eligible participants who complete all requirements, can apply for a Statement of Attainment for the elective units HLTDEN012 - Take an Impression for Study Models and HLTDET001 - Construct Models as a part of the Certificate IV in Dental Assisting course (HLT45015).
